Final part of the DIY electric scooter. A micro controller and a gyro are added to detect kicks and let the scooter act like a pedelecs to be somewhat lagal.
A battery compartment is added and a nice 3d printed brake lever is added. The work principle is explained in a basic way and as always you can expect some humor.. enjoy :-)
Additional infos can be found on the project page:

it was the simplest effect ever.. as nicksperiments wrote. I took a frame from the video to highlight the path using paint.net and while I was there I simply used the stamp tool to change the original pic. then simply overlayed the original video. used the same section of the picture on the second click just adjusted it for the right placement. many of the effects were done like that. the drill and tap bits was the most difficult since I had to edit 12 frames. blender was only used for the explosions. the main part of the animation was taken from my smoke detector video. I just added the small flying me and scooter to it.

nice. i might build one. You might want to put some kind of protection for the battery cable against the metal in that hole in the frame, though. EDIT: Also, with that arduino, how cool would it be to have an accessory display on the handlebars? wouldn't have to display much, battery voltage and speed as a minimum. I went looking on that big china website after my first watch through of your videos and found 8" motors with built in hub brake, could be interesting for scooter 2 :D

Great video, loved the funny bits too. I'm wondering, could you detect a kick by measuring the current draw on the motor as well, maybe with a non-contact inductive sensor? That's what came to mind first when i saw it.

Great job, first video Ever seen on KZbin converts simple adult scooter to electric. I am currently doing my project similar as yours, I used the same adult scooter but with a hand break, and I am using a 3700w brushless motor with esc at 12s 50.4v. And it used a 25h chain , sprockets to drive the wheel. You should use come up better solutions for battery enclosure, I have my scooter using 12s8p lion batteries that can go about 35 to 40miles per charge. It’s pretty heavy so I mounted on top of the deck, You can consider mount Lipo batteries on the handle bar with quick locks, easily to take off and recharges

Awesome project. Though, like a few others have mentioned, you should protect the cables a bit better. Especially the point where the battery cable comes through the frame. It looks like that'll slowly wear away the insulation on the cable.

Thank your for the info on the Arduino throttle control! I wasted a whole day trying to figure this out on my own and I wasn't sure the values to use for the lowpass RC filter :]
@bitluni
@bitluni 6 жыл бұрын
that values work for 32khz pwm. there is change of the pwm control in the setup() to get the high frequency. you'd need higher values for lower frequencies

That video was awesome! Did you code the whole thing in arduino IDE? I want to take a class on coding but no-one thinks I should start with C++ but that’s what arduino uses... any suggestions?
@bitluni
@bitluni 6 жыл бұрын
in my opinion is JS a good language to start. you have all you need in the browser. It also shares much of the syntax with c++. but you should also be able to start with c++ if you are working with micro controllers. blink program has the same difficulty in any language. and you grow from there by adding stuff. I have used Arduino IDE to keep the requirements simple.

Great mod and video ! i whas wondering since my e-step has a spedometer inside cant i just let de arduino sense a speed increase by mij stepping and boost that! then pause for a sec til the next kick is sensed ? (kick > boost 1 sec. > pause 0.5-1 sec > re-arm the system again to sense the next kick)
@bitluni
@bitluni 6 жыл бұрын
In my case it's not clear when the top speed is reached. I am just using a delay. When it's ready for the next kick it will beep. Otherwise the speed up could be detected as a kick

Look, if you're going to keep abusing Blender for the kind of things you do, the least you could do would be a tips and tricks video, like what is your workflow and how you manage to get proper real world dimensions into your objects, what your design process is, what kinds of shapes and features you avoid and what features you use most frequently, and how you fix stuff when it inevitably doesn't fit. I don't believe in "first time every time" you know. That NC/COM emboss animation on the switch enclosure was slick BTW.

as for the brake disengagin the motor, can do better - most of the ebike controllers have a ‘regenerative braking ‘ option , so when you enable the brake switch, power gets fed back into the batterypack (althou not balanced, just trough its power providing, not the charge-wires). most ebay-china controllers have this function not brought out, but stil have it. you have to find and connect the (pcb marked) solder pad from inside , to the brake’s switch, to the brake sensing wire for it to work. once installed, its a reliable way to slow down an electric scooter, unless the battery is freshly charged ( the first 500 meters , it provides noticeably lesser braking) i’m in belgium , have built scooter with a hoverboard 350 watt wheel and an ebike battery. as far as i know, its legal on the road here , just like hoverboards are if it doesnt go over 18kmph and your familial insurance covers them ( some do, some don’t )
@thomasdb.eu.
@thomasdb.eu. 6 жыл бұрын
furthermore, the electric scooter tops out exactly on 18 kmph with the hoverboard wheel, so a lucky conincidence. but for my ebike, i've also used one of these chinese controllers, and it goes over 25 kmph topspeed with it. i plan to disconnect the pas pedelec pedal sensor's data wire with a relais and an arduino, when the arduino senses more magnet pulses per second than 25 kmph brings, trough an external magnet on the wheel. can anuone help me with the code for the arduino, i've never used one ever before. reprogramming the controller 's IC itselve seems near impossible, they're undocumented. all the aruidno would have to do, is click the relais, when the speed sensed is more than 25kmph
@First2ner
@First2ner 6 жыл бұрын
I'm sure you did add this, when you press and release break switch 3 times, you switch in to new mode, where your throttle is your brake switch, when pressed, full power to the motor. When released, no power to the motor RIGHT???
