Bitmain L3+ SD card virus removal

EDIT: GAH I forgot an important part! After you flash the NAND file WITH the resistor, turn it off and REMOVE the resistor around the 2:36 mark.
I bought a bunch of Bitmain L3+ ASICs and they came filthy and had a virus on the motherboard that blocked the ability to reflash the firmware.
The reset button doesn't fix it.
People are spending mad bucks on buying control boards, which may be infected as well! These are micro-controllers that have an awesome following of very knowledgeable people. Together we worked through the problem.

mine wouldnt, i had the resistor on it in the places shown, but the boards LEDS never flashed nor would it connect to my network, i boot it without it itll hold a red LED the entire time its operating, and right before it hits the network it has a solid blue LED turn on for a few seconds any one got any tips of what i might be doing wrong?

Did you flash HiveOS on it successfully? That alone should keep the virus from happening again.

Just a heads up You want the .zip file that extracts a NAND SD recovery ISO file. You don't want to use a TAR.GZ firmware file. Just google his pic in the video:bitmain L3+-sd-recover @1:09

@@alialdulaimi6052 try various ways. Your control board still lights the red light where it connects the cables? I explained to you what happened to me. I put the FW on it and forgot to remove the SD and it didn't work and from there I haven't been able to make it work. It only lights the red light on one side where the cables are connected. If you find a solution, let me know. I just like if I find a solution, I'll let you know.

You can use one or two. Two might be easier. The first one HAS to be bootable, so use the below link to get the file and use etcher to create it. @@ericjohnson7798It might. Its still a BBB micro controller. You'd have to look up the recovery firmware from bitmain for the S5. I think without further research this would be a hail mary and be prepared to buy another just in case.

At what point exactly do we remove the jumper? Before or after flashing hive/blissz or other firmware? I soldered the jumper and got the green and red flashing LEDs, removed the jumper, tried loading blissz but it still wont take. It blinks the ethernet LEDs for a little bit and then blinks the red fault light once. Am I supposed to have the jumper still soldered on while flashing the blissz/hive firmware? Thanks.

The red and green lights at the same time indicate it is flashing the firmware. Did you remove the SD card and jumper after it was done?

The big brains that worked with me to figure this out said use at least 1k ohm up to 50k, but I ended up using a 500 ohm because that's what I had. It's not overly important, but having a resistor there is preferred. I flashed the sd card with the nand file from the bitmain site. It HAS to be an ISO file so when you flash it to the card its bootable. Once the jumper is in place, I put the card in, turned it on, waited around 45 seconds and both the green and red flashed at the same time. Leaving it on it flashes red because nothing is attached to it. turn it off. remove the jumper and the sd card. Put in the hiveos SD card. Turn it back on. It does the same red green flash. Turn it off, remove the SD card. turn it on, navigate to the IP address and Hive should be there.

@@mayjaiauksorn2787 Let it go for at least 45 seconds. In the stack of cards I did this past weekend, I had one card that would NOT flash. I did the whole process like 5 times. It didn't work until I took the LAN cable out for whatever reason. If it's connected, try disconnecting the LAN cable.

The sdcard with the firmware should always be in the miner? I bought a miner from china and it has an sdcard. They said it’s antivirus but i am assuming it’s the same thing that you did. The SD card should not always be in the miner. Once it is flashed, remove it. After the virus has been removed, you can flash it with several different firmwares. I use HiveOS.

I had the exact same problem. The miner changed pool to a nicehash pool @3am and would not let me change it back to my pool until after 9am. The miner refused to update firmware using the HTML GUI. Then I tried the instructions from Bitmain to update firmware from SD card which also did not work. When the SD was inserted and the miner powered up the red fault LED flashed every 5 seconds while the SD was inserted and the firmware would not update. I followed the instructions in this video and the green and red LED flashed after about 45s like in the video and the firmware updated This is the first time I have soldered to a PCB cost me less then a doallar Thanks JG I sent you some LTC I'll send more for each machine I get with this virus

LOL they come from Malaysia? My nine came from there and they are POS. I bought a few off of ebay that were in great condition and expected these to be at least similar. No where close. Mine looked like they had literally been sitting outside and run for ages. I've gotten 7 out of the 9 running after cannibalizing two. To answer your question, yes, red blinking forever.

Series they add together and parrellel add them together and divide by the number of resistors. Anyone reading this can look up series and parrellel resistors and see what im talking about for pictures as well.

@@adrianoa509 Right on, glad it was still there. I've seen a couple cards the slot was removed for whatever reason. Once there is a long red/green flash and it goes out, turn the power off, remove the resistor, remove the SD card, and restart. As for the SD card and Hive, Get download.hiveos.farm/asic/L3%2B/SD-L3%2B-Hiveon-latest.zip and unzip it, copy those files onto the SD card over the ones there. Now you have an SD card that will flash the NAND and install Hive.

Hi GungHo. A strong password on the miner, the latest firmware, isolate the miners behind a firewall and you should be good to go!

Yes, you can use two cards, I only had one. The first one HAS to be bootable though, after that you can use HiveOS on a different SD card. As for my mining operation, other than the fact the miners should have not been resold and the garbage power supplies that came with them should have been scrapped, I've gotten 11 of my 12 running. The left over one has bad boards, bad fans, missing heat sinks...I'm never ordering from this particular company again. And it really sucks, they've never sold me bad stuff before this. As for viruses, nope. Hive is pretty good at protecting. Besides, if something did change them, I'd have notifications from Nicehash as well as hive that the miners are offline and don't match the flight sheet.

@@jgstandard453 hey JG, aa Quick update on my situation, 6 out of 8 miners were recovered but 2 are getting infected again even with a strong password I was getting a notification from nicehash after 2 days 2 miners were infected, the rest of the miners are working amazingly, also I recieved some trash PSUs noisy as hell and dumpster condition, I purchased few boards from china I will recover them and keep them as backup just incase. Because I think some boards can’t be recovered sadly. Thanks for your reply 🙏🏻
