You are going to run across a lot of commentary about what you want to look for in a bit and bridle. From engraving to movement a lot of different trainers and manufacturers will try and convince you lots of irrelevant details make the bit. There is only one thing that matters when it comes to your bit: is it good for the mule?
In this short video, Steve Edwards of Queen Valley Mule Ranch shows you what to look for in a bit and demonstrates his Mule Rider's Martingale.

Steve is right on the money with his dental advice. Leonard Crotts (a racetrack farrier) in Shoeing to Win, says the first thing to do to alleviate many problems is to have an equine dentist check and "get the teeth right".

Hey Steve, I work as a mule carriage driver in New Orleans, LA. Almost every driver I know of uses a Liverpool bit for driving the mule. There are some exceptions made for a particular animal; I've once driven a rookie mule with a Buxton bit and recently drove a mule with a rubber butterfly bit. What are your thoughts on using Liverpools bit for riding? Or driving, for that matter?

I've heard of removing those pointy teeth. Do you remove the top 2, bottom or all 4? I can't imagine they did that way back then, though I can see why it would be beneficial now. It seems a little artificial, is it very necessary? Thank you so much.

You know I must say I'm new to The Mule game but if it were me to be kind to The Mule and it'd be easier on myself I would rather use a rope halter or a bosal and keep it that way especially if the Buell reacts positively to those ways of doing it if there's anybody that wants to learn about a bozell or a rope halter and learn how to ride a mule or a horse even better you need to go to Rick Gore's think like a horse KZbin videos

Thanks, no bits are the way to go. I, personally abhore bits... They're downright cruel and if you can't handle and animal without being cruel then you don't deserve to own one. If course, that's just my opinion and we all know what opinions are like but that's mine and I agree with you.
