Dual degree has a lot of disadvantages tbh. Its cutoff is lower for good reasons- 1) There is a low chance of getting top branches because everybody, not just you, will be working their asses off. Mostly those who just miss IIT or who got admission in top colleges get top branches(all campuses). 2) You get less time to explore new fields and interests. BITS offers many other courses like finance, etc. but people doing dual degree already have 2 degrees on their hand. 3) If your second degree doesn't interest you then it will be a HUGE burden. This may affect your CGPA in the engineering degree too. Keep in mind that your additional subject will be very theoretical. 4) You will have college for 5 to 5.5 years, so you have to pay for 5 or 5.5 years of college fee and not just 4 years. Btw, you will get NEITHER degrees if you decide to drop out even after your 4th year. In my opinion, it is better to take a lower branch if branch change is your main issue. Don't take dual degree just because you want to go to BITS. Go for it only if you are genuinely interested to study Maths, eco, phy, chem or bio. The decision should come from your heart, not because of lack of options. All the best everyone! :)

Ridhim Jain Cutoff is decided on the basis of performance of others. It’s not that easy to score 8.4 cgpa.

Could you please tell me that is it possible for a dual degree student to change to just single degree, getting rid of the additional msc degree with a high cgpa? It’s fees is higher but not too higher. If you can afford IIT then this shouldn’t be a problem (unless you are taking dual degree- then you’ll have to pay for 5.5 years)

I got 244. I wanted to study eco or bio, they both interest me. Saw the previous years cutoff for all the campuses and Hyderabad had 247 for msc bio. I am in a pretty weird situation now..i had filled the preference order like pilani eco, pilani bio, then goa eco, goa bio and similarly for Hyderabad. I had filled this before my exam yesterday..does this order make any difference in the allotment process? The preference order?

Dude it’s not about the hours at all. Stop livin in a fantasy. The first year has a lot of variables, adjustment issues, food issues, homesickness. Although scoring 8.5 is achievable in 5 hours a day for an AVERAGE guy but then why doesn’t everyone get CSE ever wondered?. First year can have a lot of other issues. Your health in a diff climate, you can be depressed because away from home. Don’t take the dual degree risk if you won’t be happy without CSE.
