I love your awesome sponge glue brush and your gray toolbox and your various fantastic scissors and the book press obvs and the bone folders of course. In any event thank you for all your wonderful tutorials and lovely time with you in your studio

I use a strip of thick waste plastic packaging, the height of my textblock, that I have folded in half length-wise and puched holes into as a punching jig. The holes don’t get bigger with use and I can use it innumerable times. I find a punching cradle helps too.

Love your work and the videos! One Question: why the extra piece of paper on the spine after the bookcloth? It will never be seen under the end papers.
@bittermelonbindery2 жыл бұрын
It's necessary for the book structure, the paper acts as a stiffener so that the spine remains as a flat back when opening and closing.

( 11:20 )What is the paper-like thing you put on the ironed cloth and the ironed it again?? Where can I get this material from?? Also what is the material you put above it while peeling the layer off??( 12:46 )

Hi! I was just wondering about the end pages -- do you use your regular glue for the adhering of the endpages? does that little strip of cloth that isn't the heatnbond/tissue paper side adhere to the paper in the inside jacket? wondering if i should use fabric glue for that part...

@bittermelonbindery2 жыл бұрын
Hi Margo, which part are you asking about?

@@bittermelonbindery When you glue things, you lay them on a white surface, and you reuse that surface. Looks like a larger piece of white paper, but different.

@@artsymargo Oh it's a scrap piece of thick paper, in this case it's the cover of a sketch paper pad

@@JJaynJoan Thank you! That's a good idea. I'd rather put scrap paper in recycling (and not have it hanging around until used) than garbage. I've got some thick, flexible plastic that will work. I'll give it a try.

I noticed that recently you're not doing the knitting needles to make the shoulder, is there a reason for that? I always seem to have a hard time getting it to work properly when I do try.
@bittermelonbindery2 жыл бұрын
Not for this design! It was an aesthetic choice, but also the spine is stiffened with cardstock not chipboard, so a shoulder wouldn't form anyway.
