You know why this happens ? Because the film actors and actress of the past used to spend hours on voice training ...Yes just like you need to do constant riyaz in order to become a good singer you have to work a lot if you want to improve your voice and talking style . Not just meena ji compare any old heros and heroines of old times like Nargis , Geeta Bali , Madhubala , Vaijyanti mala , Dev Anand , Dilip Kumar , Raj Kapoor , Pradeep Kumar and others with today's so called ' stars ' and you can see the difference in voice and talking style immediately .

@s sab Very True . Infact most of Munshi Premchand's stories are written in Urdu... Actually what we now know as Hindi and Urdu originally started out as Dehlvi - The language of the area around Delhi and is nothing but a natural evolution of the ' Khari Boli ' dialect of the area . If you are lucky enough to find a dictionary printed 100 or more years back you will be amazed to see that the publishers never bothered to print HIndi and Urdu versions separately , they simply printed the words in Devnagri and Persian scripts in the same dictionary . The explanation of the words was not a translation as well . It was the exact same thing just written in two scripts ...for example मुझे वहाँ जाना है and Mujhe Wahan Jana Hai ... Just like this is not a translation but the use of two different scripts for the same language . The original Hindi/Urdu had a plethora of Sanskrit and Persian words . What we speak today in day to day use and even in movies is neither Urdu or HIndi ...Its a degenerated language with limited vocabulary and horrendous sentence formation ...Thats why when you hear someone like Meena Ji or Kavi Pradeep useing the close to classical version of the language it sounds heavenly

Since young I was always fan of meenakumari, but recently heard her biography, in this audio her voice her interview so nicely presented, also after listening this audio I realised her urdu and hindi but were so good. I was reading an interview she once gave to an Urdu film magazine. That interview was very brief. She didn't like giving interviews as so much false rumors were spread by people. The interviewer asked her "Who helped the most in your career?" Meenaji said "Ashok Kumar." The interviewer then said , "So many film actresses praise Ashok Kumar, would you like to add something more about him?" Meenaji said, "No." And that was the end of that interview.
