Hardly doubt that. Now imagine that with having its own Bitwig twist. What were they thinking? Do people actually need that many outputs? I'm good with 2 outs plus headphones. If there was ADAT you'd get all the outs you most likely ever need. A lot of weird choices with this product IMHO.
@Bata999911 күн бұрын
@@Leo.Nordmann Looks like it's designed with the eurorack market in mind. A lot of people with large systems use some mixers and might be fine with 4 inputs. 12 outputs for CV are easy to use up.
@hypnoticGrill11 күн бұрын
@@Leo.Nordmann well if you count the cvs as out, the high number males sense, the low number of inputs does not... I have a 4 synth setup, and that takes alone 8 monoinputs, for each has their own effects path. then counting drum samplers an other stuff together my setup needs 12 inputs, just to work. so hmm. Nice idea, but way too low ins count for a "serious" use. Ok I have to admit, i am no eurorack guy. maybe in eurorack world 4 ins is enough since everything is happening inside the rack system. but for standalone synth users with patch in/out capabilities, it is only for very small setups like 2 mono synth and a stereo drummachine or something like that. I really think this is the start of a hardware family, otherwise this one is very niche
@Leo.Nordmann10 күн бұрын
@@Bata9999 it's only the 4 1/8" outs on the top that are DC coupled though, right? The other 6 are only balanced 1/4" and then there's the stereo headphone out.
@Leo.Nordmann10 күн бұрын
@@hypnoticGrill same for me. I have the Babyface pro with a 8/8 preamp and all the inputs get used with my setup. Bitwig connect should have ADAT. It's baffling how they didn't add that. It's a similar thing with the SSL Big Six. That mixer could really be great but no ADAT makes the value of it drop immensely IMHO. Edit: sure, it makes sense if they do a range and add adat on the higher product in the line then, but the price is just way too high for me to even consider this. If they make a bigger version it'll be in the price range of the Babyface pro FS and I would always pick that over anything else really.

Now make your own Push 3 rival and/or have tighter integration with the Push 3. This is really cool though. Ive been looking for something similar to this. Pretty cool, but not what I personally need currently. I would immediately buy a small controller with that center dial integrated into it. 4 knobs that work like that (hover and click to lock on the parameter), a small oled that shows what its locked on, and the transport controls would be ideal. You could make versions of this concept tacked onto a number of other controllers: just the knobs, a sequencer, a keyboard, a grid controller. The primary functionality i want is that hover and click to lock transport control. That is so much more intuitive, quick, and mailable than any other midi assignment ive ever seen.

I'm really impressed guys! You just know if Bitwig make something then the features are going to be really well thought out. That is I would say probably the most clever audio interface i've ever seen in terms of the combination of features. Great work! Obviously I will echo what other people in the comments are saying that it would be great to see some kind of integrated midi control system for Bitwig. The thing is with Push and Ableton though is that there's too many sub menus and its faster to get around with the mouse for many tasks. So for me I think its a case of getting a narrower set of features to work exceptionally well rather than trying to create this never use a mouse again nonsense because lets face it the mouse is handy for editing. Things I generally want are a good 16 row step sequencer with random and prob and can do 909 style as well and rapid access to all of the sensible drum params like pitch, filter, start, end, adsr, pan, fx, filter stype, vol. Then I guess there need to be intuitive melodic sequencing as well. I think for me I just want intuitive and expressive and tightly integrated laying down, tweaking and editing of the fundamentals of a song. The groove basically. Lay down patterns, tweak sounds, swap patterns, swap sounds. Super intuitive fundamentals. Because when you get to the point where its like ok lets make it do 20 other things then all of a sudden if you want do a drum flam you gotta go 3 menus deep because you've been trying to create this device which does everything and so it becomes sluggish at deeper editing and sluggish at laying down grooves. So why not don't even attempt the deeper stuff and make it exceptional at just generating sounds. Its what push claims to be like an expressive musical instrument but I owned push one and it was a jack of all trades and master of none.

Congrats! The execution of how it directly Integrates with bitwig are rlly awesome and smth unseen before, thats awesome! Also favouring the use of Modular Synths as Bitwig rlly is the DAW that rlly shines the most in terms of user friendlyness of Hybrid Setups is rlly the perfect choice imo The use of the multifunctionial knob for MIDI CC is also rlly such a nice Addition and usability of it and to switch parameters seems like a breeze But by the first looks here my critiques (obv. not owning the device but an Audiofuse 16rig instead (pretty much the Interface I always Dreamt of lol and cannot recommend it enough) There seems to be enough space for LED VU-Meters for 2 Inputs and seems a bit of a missed oppurtunity, although obv i do not know how cramped up it looks under the hood but thats a bit of a bummer but would be amazing to check Ins and outs or all Ins at the same time. The choice of having the Phantom power switch in the back is very odd to me and not a good thing at all I switch my Phantom power on/off extremly often. Coming from the audiofuse 16rig i constantly switch between Inputs 1 from rear for synths to the front where my mic stays attached since i use my mic also for gaming and videocalls etc. but barely for my music. Having to Touch around and reach for the back to look for the Phantom power switch sometimes several times a day seems extremely annoying Why only 2 Inputs and 6 6.35mm outs instead of 4 outs and 4 ins? People who only need 2 Inputs hardly ever have a 2nd pair of speakers and for send/Return functionality theres just not enough Inputs. Having 2 extra ins could make way to maybe use them in that way or simply to have 2 more separate Ins for multitracking. If you like the choice of the small Jacks on the top is obviously completely subjective but i would have prefered them maybe on the front or the sides to eliminate the possibility of cables dangling around. Often longer eurorack cables are very loose (at least my are) and not stiff enough to not end up possibly dangling on the precious big knob (i know we all love big Knobs that make synths go "WAH-WAH" mainly ending up as cut off knob lol) or being a bit in the way of the buttons and LEDs Obviously it would raise the pricepoint and is a wish not a complaint but ADAT functionality would be god send and id easily buy it to replace my Expert Sleepers modules to feed Modular Signals into Bitwig while having its amazing Integration features connecting it to my 16rig 😍 That all being said it still looks like the perfect interface as Bitwig user who doesnt have the need for big amount of ins and most points (except the rear buttons) are nitpicking maybe for the next gen :) Congrats again to this well thought out little box!

This is really well thought through. Congrats - and I would like something else adding to a Bitwig hardware range please: Something like the Softube Console 1 but smaller and there to simply control one device at a time (rather than be a channel strip - which isn't what Bitwig is about at all); layout more like a Nektar CS12 but with 3 rows of 8 controls so (say) eq gain, freq and Q can be controlled per band but with displays for what each encoder is controlling and save-mappable to VSTs as well as native FX and instruments. Adding a universal knob like on the 4/12 or a single motorised hi-res fader would be great for controlling whatever the mouse hovers over or switchable to volume. For me, Ableton Push was always too massive and the knobs too far away and close together to be usable by a grown up seated at a desk. So, my suggestion: Forget the pads - put them in a separate hardware unit - definitely not the same one! Focus on having a really great series of rotaries ergonomically accessible and readable just beyond a Mac/PC keyboard or trackpad. Now that, I would pay for! I don't need an MPC would-be or all-in-one controller like Push. I need dedicated, ergonomic studio tools - For instance, in my last release, I had Wavesfactory Spectre on most tracks. Being able to control that from hardware and using my ears more, screen less, would be amazing!

i used bitwig versions 1 - 3, when they went to their subscription model i stopped promoting it although i still use the version i've paid for. that said, i can't in good faith purchase this or any other product as firmware & other updates might be held to a subscription model. even though i am being ever so slightly facetious, i hope i haven't given them yet another crappy idea.

Cool. Except it's never been a subscription model. Subscriptions are a very very specific different thing. So you don't have to worry. You're literally experiencing why it's not a subscription. If it was, you'd lose access when you stopped paying. Except no, you can just update to the new version years later if you want like literally every software ever. Bitwig is just nice enough to give you a year of free updates when you upgrade. You're confused

I don't understand you. With Ableton you buy a license and if then a couple of months later a new version is released you can buy a new version. With Bitwig you are guaranteed to get the update, it's the fairest model I've seen.

If only it had ADAT input to go with my soundcard. This will have to be the only sound card if you want low latency (Mac's can have many sound cards running...windows ...meh).

Congratulations on launching a great product. However, I hope you will take note of the fact that 'daw reason' lost its character as a software company when it focused on 'balance' and stagnated in business, and eventually failed.

Too bad Bitwig is designed for nerds and not for musicians.

kinda agree hoping it will start to change with upcoming updates

There are lots of "DAWs for musicians" options for you to choose from already, let there be a DAW for nerds too, ok? Its market share is like 3.5%, just leave it alone.

Some musicians can only play piano and some other musicians can play piano AND complex synths or modulation hardware.

USB 2.0 is a big disappointment.

… why?

what should be the benefit of usb 3 in an audio interface with this channel count?
@jomonger-g1f10 күн бұрын
USB 2.0 depends more on rest of your system (OS driver, even if you use USB 3 socket), while USB 3.1 is more independent. If you have webcams, controllers, midi, mastering plugins everything on USB 2.0 the polling latency overhead/jitter will be imo measurable. So for 99% of users it won't matter. I'm probably whining, but its so cool and has USB 2.0 while I already have an interface with USB 3.1. I'd feel like I am downgrading.
