I own a SFF system and I can say with confidence the only reason your GPU temps are that high is because your AIO fans are set as intake, hot air rises. Your GPU is just roasting in its own hot air. Sacrifice some CPU thermals by setting the AIO fans as exhaust and you'll get better temps in every other regard as well as noise levels.

I wonder if flipping the rad fans to exhaust would pull more fresh air into the gpu without affecting the cpu too much.
@greenprotag3 жыл бұрын
Big agree. I think as long as the CPU does not go over 85c under max load I would keep a "bottom to top" airflow path to better maintain the general internal temperatures. Min maxing CPU temps at the expense of overall system performance seems like not the play. Also, the top has ZERO mesh meaning using as an intake is just cramming in dust from the top. At least the sides have a bit more dust restriction.
@johnashby96603 жыл бұрын
The gpu was getting choked because the gpu can’t pull any fresh air through the panel because there’s so much positive pressure. The 3080 actually would’ve done better because it’s also a blower card
@mattevans16433 жыл бұрын
Yes i agree. That's how many sandwhich style cases are supposed to work. You set the top fans to exhuast to encourage airflow from the sides, while also pulling the hot air from the GPU out. Hopefully some of that air gets taken by the GPU to assist in the abundance of air it's already getting from its fans. Negative pressure systems also work extremly well in this type of case as even more air is coming through the sides, and the only thing that you really need to cool is the GPU which would be the only positive pressure in the case. However seeing as though the side panels on this case are mostly solid That's probably not the best set up. That's the problem with ITX, there's no set formula. It all depends on the case, which is where the fun is. Every build is different and requires working out to find the best solution. Where as with mATX and ATX it's the same thing everytime, nothing you need to figure out. It also has to do with the simple fact that you need to pull the hot air out. Having the radiator as intake doesn't really make sense. As it heats up from the CPU the fluid get hot and heats the radiator. Having the fans as intake pulls the heat from the radiator back into the case, which for an itx build doesn't make sense because of how squished it is. I honestly never understood why people use a radiator as intake anyway even in bigger cases, because you're pulling the hot air into the case.

Optimum actually demonstrated many times that having a negative pressure setup in a SFF sandwich case design is actually better for cooling, as you force cool air to enter through the side panels, working alongside the graphics card. If you use a positive pressure setup, you will get slightly wamer CPU temps, but way higher GPU temps
@RKight3 жыл бұрын
Came here to say this. I have a Ghost S1 that currently works well without extra case fans but I plan to grab the medium and large top-hats for future expansion, and already researched the fan setup for if/when I add fans. Everything I've seen points to exactly what you've said here. I don't know about other small form factor cases but I know mine doesn't have any sort of filtration, so I see absolutely no downsides to going with negative pressure in this particular case (pun intended).

@Bitwit Negative pressure airflow setup for sandwich style case like this one. The negative pressure helps bring fresh air from the side panels to cool the gpu as well as exhausting the hot air from the gpu. Cpu temp will suffer a little bit but I think that'd be preferred.

I wonder what would happen if you put the aio in exhaust. This case seems like it would benefit more from negative pressure since theres not really a direct airflow pattern. Plus trying to balance the fan pressure is the best way to maximize fan efficiency and there's 3 gpu fans, and 3 120mm intake so with 2 as exhaust there should be overall more airflow at a lower db

A lot of these sandwich style SFF cases perform much better with a negative airflow setup. OptimumTech has done a good bit of testing on this, and with the FormD T1 for example, the differences were quite large. You want to encourage air to come in through the side panels, which will greatly improve GPU thermals. Either way, fun build! I like seeing more SFF content making the rounds these days.

The ethernet controller will cut in and out every few days unless you tweak some stuff around in it's settings (which I have and its fixed now). The bluetooth will just entirely cut out and not come back until you switch off/unplug the power supply, it'll work for a few boots after and then cut out again. I haven't found a way to permanently fix the bluetooth yet so I've resigned myself to using 2.4ghz for anything wireless.

Using a 120 AIO and SFX PSU, 3.5 drive in my case, but 240 is doable. I know 20 Lt may not be everybody's taste for small factor, but it's only 25% more on every dimension vs a 10 Lt case (the ZX-1 non AIO version), plus the cheaper parts. It's available in other parts of the world: - SAMA IM01 (Unbranded version) (no glass panel) - Quzao I'm (China) (glass panel bundled) - Tecware Fusion (Singapore) (glass panel sold separately) - Krux Naos (Poland?) All of these GPU will fit in this case and almost fully fill out that gpu void in the back: EVGA's XC3 Gaming, PNY's Accelerate Epic-X, Palit's GamingPro OC, Gainward's Phoenix GS, Or the ASUS TUF Gaming OC. If you use a lower power cpu like a 5600x then you could also swap the cpu aio for a ITX tower style cooler and then Gigabyte's Waterforce 3080 & 3090 would fit. Any of those coolers with the 3080, 3080 Ti, and 3090 will fit perfectly fine and fill out that void of gpu space. Also, these coolers are adequate enough to handle the card even if they are choked with airflow a bit.

Actually the radiator is probably suffocating everything. This happened with the Fractal Meshify 2 compact cases...everyone I've seen that used a radiator said it had bad thermals...and those that used a air fan cooler said thermals in it were some of the best in any case. Radiators seem to choke the gpu in smaller cases way more easily from what I've seen. To give an example people with radiators were getting 70-85c temps for both gpu/cpu and people who used air fan coolers were getting 50-55c temps. I looked at multiple tech channels that reviewed the thermals of the case and none of them seemed to mention that maybe a radiator could drastically effect gpu temps with smaller cases

You need the top fans as exhaust so that the air being pulled in the side from the GPU has someplace to go. I have an RX 6800 in a similar sandwich layout case with the AIO fans as exhaust on the top. No undervolt needed. The way you have it now the GPU and AIO fans are working against each other.

Actually, 20:59, some of us are often 3D rendering... and Blender get such CPU high temps easily (more than in gaming, by very far)... I did under volt heavily my 3900X (I got a built-in deal long ago, bad case air flow, poor coolers and I'm not expert in building, my thing is 2D/3D) , maybe a bit too much, but I don't need more performance, at all, and I live in a really warm area (no AC in the room, crazy in this region) , so, undervolting was the way to go. I dunno, works extremely well and temps are much lower than as they delivered it to me. A render would reach 90º C, and some peaks of 95º C. Now is about 70 something as much. games at 54 -65, and the 1650 does never really over heat, the few games (including some FPS) I occasionally play. Though I did not touch the card settings at all.

What small form factor case would you go for i you need to fit one 3.5 inch drive in addition? Rest is high end parts.

putting the radiator fans as exhaust and might help because all the intakes are pushing against the GPU cooling since the GPU exhausts from the top and bottom

Would the temps go down if the bottom fan is in exhaust? It can compliment the 6800XT

Without a rear exhaust fan, the rear blower fan on the 3080 would've been great. Too bad the front fan would've suffocated. Switching to the 6800XT made sense, but then the bottom or top fans probably should've been reversed. While not a fan of the white/orange combo, the black case looked sweet.

So if the case is magnetic that would mean it bad to install harddrives in it, so only ssd's. We hard that issue with the janitor at work when he was vacuuming, cos the pc was on the floor and we were losing data. We could believe at 1st but we run a test with a motor running next to HD. Conclusion we rearranged all the pc on top of the desk to prevent data loss.
