I found 2 working desktop towers from my local dump. I was able to give my mom a i3 7k series for her browsing and emails and turned one with an i5 into a gaming setup for another family member. In 2020 I bought a 7700 i7. 16gb, 512gb ssd, and gtx1080 full tower for $275. I found a r9 380 for $50, 750 ti for $20, rx 480 for $60... I love getting the maximum mileage for my pc endeavors. Your channel is great to bring people back down to earth that think a gaming pc mean $2500 in 2022. We all play any games we want and have never paid but a fraction of msrp for anything. Keep the bargains going forever!

@@youknowme2003 it's real. Facebook marketplace shipped for $275. She had the specs printed on a paper and took a picture of it for the ad instead of posting specs in the info section. If I'd searched "gtx 1080" it would never come up so she wasn't having success selling it. I got lucky but also I put in the work to find the deal. 100% man. I have the receipt somewhere in my Facebook messages I guess.

@@youknowme2003 I picked up a GTX 1650 for £50 (UK) not long before the pandemic and a GTX 980 for £60 too. Some people just want rid of hardware and they aren't out to rip people off. I picked up an i7 4770 PC with an RX 260x and 2x4GB DDR3 last summer for free as it was an older system that the owner just didn't need anymore. And my last deal was an MSI X470 Gaming Plus with a Ryzen 3600 for £150. They initially wanted only £100 but I offered more as there were others interested at that price (that and the £150 was all in with postage and paypal fees). It is now paired up with the above GTX 980 and my 16 year old son is using it as his daily gaming PC :) Deals are always out there, you just have to be quick!

A lot of those issues you are having looks like you simply did not use the correct memory slot when repopulating ram. Some boards, especially MSI, suffer from this issue. More times then not, people RMA their MSI board thinking its dead. When in fact they didn't have the correct memory config to start with. Do this. Reset the cmos by removing the battery. replace the battery and insert the ram into slot 2 only. start up. if that works. then slot 4. start up, then slot 1. then 3. If you mess up during the process you have to remove the battery and start again. This is by design.

I suspect most of the PC's were probably taken to MSY for repair and the owners abandoned them when opting not to repair them. The lack of hard drives may indicate the existing owner opted to buy a new PC and the old drive was added to to retain their data.

In regards to seeing your own builds come back to you through a deal: I sign all my builds with either a black or pink glitter sticker that is a skull and bones. Lighting in gaming builds really highlight it, people generally like it, and on others I hide it on the back side of the build with all the wiring. I will always recognize my own work.

26:00 - That's happend to me a number of times with SGIs I've sold down the years, I end up buying them back later, or winning them on auction, often from someone different if they've gone through several owners. It's funny when I boot them up and realise the OS install was done by me long ago (by which I mean possibly as much as 15 or 20 years back), or some of the accessories I recognise as being ones I put together, or there's an ID sticker I put on the back or the base. It's also happened once with a PC build I did for a family long ago, an AM2 system (6000+ with an 8800 GT and 120GB SSD, solid XP system at the time), I bought it back from them many years later when they decided to switch to iPads. Pity about the P55s, though tbh the LX models from ASUS were always a bit iffy. Even if they'd had i7s and were working, I wouldn't oc them on an LX. Good find with that Z97 though.

Since the guy said it the cases were from a PC shop close-down. Maybe the PC were from the same shop. Like jobs that owners never paid for, or the shop could not get them going, and the owners left them. People treat PC repair shops like that. I used to flip PC and laptop parts to a shop that did repairs, in our town centre. He was a one man operation, with a shop the size you would imagine. However the entire of his shop front was two/three stacks high of PCs left by csutomers. You had to walk in a clear channel between PCs from the door to the desk. Then walk a single clear channel along the front of the desk.

0:48 these fm2(+) motherboards are actually decent. I had one at 8:10. Sure, top CPUs don't perform much better than socket 775 CPUs but they eat any DDR3 memory (especially fm2+) and don't prone to fail nowdays so they'll be worth it for at least an office or even low-end CS:GO gaming PCs especially during such clean-out to make the whole deal slightly better.

The old retro PC is a later intel Pentium socket 478 that was released just before 775 dual core & core 2 quad days. It has onboard ATI graphics and later AGP x4 and PCI slots, no ISA slots which is needed for best option DOS SFX/Music in games. If it turns out the motherboard has an older chipset such as the intel ICH5 or less it can be used with PCI DOS compatible addon sound cards such as SB live/Audigy. Basically the Motherboard chipset and AGP is what to be careful on with Pentium 4 as later chipsets loose DOS sound card support and some have no AGP that limits graphic options for later games such as half-life, unreal's, quake 2 etc. A few Addon cards with value to look for in old computers: Graphics( 3dfx Voodoo, ATI Radeon 9800/9600 Pro/XT) Sound(Creative Awe32/64, Aureal Vortex, SBLIVE/Audigy, Trident 4DWave). Nice video thanks

19:05 I spy a loose screw on the PCB that might be touching a few components. (maybe this was checked off screen?!)

Just for you to know. Usually asus boards won't display any image if the cmos battery is EOL or near EOL. It happened to me countless times. The first time, out of despear, I changed the battery and the PC booted up fine. Since then, I always change the battery before calling it dead. EDIT : didn't saw the all video so you already know.,

Suggest you test MB's with PS/2 keyboard as USB much later in boot process and legacy USB (needed for USB KB and mouse) may not even be enabled. If you can find one in Aus, then try to get a PCI/PCIe LCD diagnostic card as will give you post codes, allows you to decide if it's worth putting more time into MB/System. Still have my PCI LCD diag card very useful for slightly older systems with PCI slot.

You should run those faulty boards they're the hypersonic cleaner. I would assume they could have humidity damage from sitting in a shed for a couple of years.

Interesting stuff Brian! Pretty sure those new cases are worth about $100 each so $200 for everything else seems like a pretty good deal.

That rig with an Ati logo in the rig must be from the very early 2000's, since AMD bought Ati in 2006. So those computers were in storage there for quite a bit!

I believe that's a radeon xpress 9100 or xpress 1200. And yes, more likely much more earlier than 2006 as it has AGP. Haven't got a chance to experience this chipset as either nforce, via, or intel was the popular choice back then.
