Variation on the "Emergency Concepts" idea. Biu Jee doesn't "leave the door" because it is the last thing you should be doing, not the first.
@KB-no9vp11 ай бұрын
My thoughts on Biu Jee is that the skills learned can excel beyond the normal learning curve of Chum Kui and Sil Lum Tao, sometimes developing a false sense of confidence. For someone that has put their time in learning and developing a strong foundation with the first two forms, Biu Jee can be the icing on the cake freeing you from the formal structure to recover the center line when ambushed. Just my two cents. I'm sure that there are much more valid and developed thoughts than mine on this amazing form.
@DxModel21911 ай бұрын
Secret form is exactly how you described it. Wing Chun is really like 80 %of the first form 15% of the second. My teacher always says the first form is always the most important that many people will always come back to form 1 even after 30 years of training.
@Introspectral11 ай бұрын
I see Biu jee as more of a "gluing together" kind of form, taking the aspects of snt and ck and kind of gives the opportunity to apply the principles learned in those in a more "free form" context. If snt is building and refining the foundation, and ck is moving this structure, biu jee is adding "life" or flexibility to it, breaking away from the imposed (for educational purposes) structural limitations of the previous forms.. a "take this thing you built and swing it around a bit to see how it holds up" kind of thing.

@Activ80 Жыл бұрын
It could be called the "secret" form or the form not to be shown to outsiders because originally it took many years to reach biu jee level & this could not be performed correctly without a very good understanding of siu nim tao & chum kiu beforehand because the 3rd form is useless unless you have properly mastered the previous ones. To perform biu jee one must have a full understanding of the system not only know the physical movements.🙏

i have a hunch that "door" in this case rather refers to the "gates" as in: the three basic angles from which an attack would occur in wing tsun: aka towards the opponents power hand side, towards the opponents jab side or towards the centerline. as in: heavens gate, deaths gate and life gate.

My guess is you have to think back to a pre-industrial time where there were no police as we know of it today, no phones, no firearms, no cars for fast police responses, and only a small population could afford horses (the wealthy or the government). Also, China was one of the long standing civilizations who were living in densely populated cities and towns scattered throughout a massive area for several millennia during the time. Within this context, a good sized group of martially trained ruffians (e.g.: bandits, mercenaries, rebels, or even simple violent misfits, etc..) can easily overrun a local "policing" force in a good sized town, since the "police" wouldn't have any guns to stop them, as they do today. If you were a skilled martial arts teacher (who maybe had a professional military background) in this context and had the misfortune of teaching ill willed students who became criminals in the local region, the entire village, town, or city you lived in would probably slowly learn that you were the their teacher. So to prevent this, what would you have done if you were the teacher? Put yourself in this context, and you'll know exactly why Chinese Martial Arts teachers, so often only taught just enough for most students to defend themselves and no more (short range, non-chasing, empty hand and some dabbling in weapons), and usually kept the more offense based tactics away from most common civilians (or anyone with a character who easily quarrels or picks fights for any reason). Some teachers may have even only taught students who they thought would end up using the Martial Arts as a profession (e.g.: for actual government enforced policing groups, caravan escorting, VIP body guard, and military use, etc.). I think this is where you'll find your answer to why Biu Jee, certain weapons forms and weapons applications, and the like, were kept "secret" (but not really) within a historical context. I don't think it's particularly more "deadly" or anything, than the other forms / drills, IMHO. Personally, I think if you look at the nature of Biu Jee in comparison to the other empty hand Wing Chun forms, it just tends to look more long range in nature (reaching for, or chasing after something), as opposed to holding back and standing your ground (self-defense). Lastly, I think within a historical context, professional Martial Artists probably trained a lot of weapons and not just empty hand fighting in latter stages (a common misconception today is that Martial Arts equates to Empty Hand fighting). I mean, without guns, tanks, mobile phones and concrete roads, who wouldn't want a large mob, some horses, long pole arms, "state of the art" projectile weapons, and a blazing INFERNO cannon, for defense? Swords and short weapons were probably just for policing within towns and cities, IMHO. Personally, what I've found cool about Chinese Martial Arts in latter stages is that you can pick up ANYTHING and use it as a weapon or tool. Even your entire body and BARE hands! Just remember, if your BARE hands all the way down to your finger tips and toes and anything you touch aren't becoming weapons or landscaping tools by the time you are finished, do not be fooled! You are NO feudal era Martial Arts SIFU! lol. Just don't hurt your hands or body along the way. ;-)

Perhaps Biu Ji is an incomplete form that should be added to as more "emergency situations" arise The problem is with any lineage no consensus can be formed with the sifus to append to it The only way appending would work is if a virtuoso who themselves or their students defeated all others added to the form

I have always been taught that SLT is the attacker comes to you. CK is to build a bridge and meet your attacker and then BG is about preempting or attacking your attackers guard/strike. There is a saying that you must sacrifice 3000 of your ment to take 10 000 of theirs. Its also about the lines that exist inside each form. CK uses mostly the tram lines whereas BG the footwork may use thebtram lines but the shoulder is striking doen the centre. Hard to explain in a comment though The rrason its an 'emergency form' is because it doesnt conform to absorbing any energy but rather to take and strike to regain balance. Its an aggressive form and to be used outside would be forbidden 🤷♂️ Problem is there are so many different lineages at this point and a lot of politics within organisations. Who actually really knows 🤷♂️

The senior instructors from my linage , Ip Man wing chun, only learnt this form once they were very well versed in the first two empty hand forms and the dummy. It wasn’t a secret form but it was held back and only taught when you were ready. It’s applications are lethal . The elbows are finishing strikes . Deadly and last resort . There is nothing at all surprising to those who practice other southern Chinese systems of kung-fu. Many of the Wing chun moves can be seen in Hung Gar and others. Attacking the eyes are basic in all of kung-fu. Others will rip the throat and testicles, etc. There are no surprises at all in Biu Jee, which is even considered very basic in other systems. If wing chun were a sacred, to be worshiped secret system, then every martial artist in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China would choose only to study it. Use some reasoning! The only "secret" of Biu Jee is in marketing it to the gullible. If Kowloon's infamous Walled City still existed, you would have the opportunity to test your skills, as I did, to see what system works best. The one that works best is what the individual practitioner makes of it, the hard training, the genetic tools that include fast twitch muscle fibers for speed and strength, superior eyes, and reflexes, the same that is need to play in America's NFL and NBA. If you aren't born with the needed genetics, you will only fiddle around with kung-fu, which is why there is some kwoons won't allow you inside their doors to bother them by watching or asking stupid questions.
