When I was younger I had no idea why people were so obsessed with Bjork. All I could hear was obnoxious half-singing and weird noises, but as I got older I really started to appreciate the freedom in her voice. She's truly detached and unaffected by outside influence. Something we should all aspire to.

Steve Fury Same here for years I would hear snippets of her music and just shut it out without ever fully allowing myself to experience at least one full song. I came across Pagan Poetry in a SoundCloud mix curated by an artist without knowing it was her and now I'm completely awestruck by so many of her works!!!

This is why I never gave her a chance and listened to her music. Growing up, all I ever knew of her was how the media made her seem crazy and unstable and weird. So I just avoided her music. Not fair. Come to find out, I love her and she's so intriguing!

"Art" is a big stretch, isn't it? She's a mainstream musician who packages herself as quirky and counter-culture. Annoying is the word that pops into my mind when I see her.
@azerix4168
@azerix4168 6 жыл бұрын
GozerTheGozerian Even Bjork's most popular song "it's oh so quiet" has lots of strange twists. Look at an album such as medulla as well, how much mainstream music has Mike Patton making strange noises and unpredictable structures. Bjork didn't mean to become popular as she's said many times before, which means she probably wasn't writing mainstream music
@ashencometmom5291
@ashencometmom5291 5 жыл бұрын
@@GozerTheGozerian you appear to have misunderstood some things about her music she doesn't package herself as anything other than herself that's why her music sounds relatively similar to mainstream stuff compared to all the niche experimental things out there: she's not trying to go with or against the current, she's just making the music she likes without worrying about how it compares to the rest but let me guess, the only actual counter-culture music is the one _you_ like the most, right? fuckin hipster
@rodval2322
@rodval2322 5 жыл бұрын
@@GozerTheGozerian It's funny cause all these alternative pop artists that have been coming out since the late 00's try to be weird, unique and try too hard to not be mainstream but when i try to think about muscians who try too hard to be ''different'' Björk never comes to my mind, cause she doesn't try anything, she just is. As someone said before, she's not trying to go with or against anything, she does what she wants and works with she wants and all that stuff. So i think she is very far from being a try-hard alternative artists. She is the number one inspiration for ridiculous try harders but that shit ain't her problem.

Roland Gustafsson Is no category. She simply is yet with high and more than enough intrigue and Divine Complexity. I know this because of something inexplicable that Hides In The Light that shares these words that ALWAYS consist of anything/everything Wonderful, Wondrous, Strange, Beautifully Enigmatic or Up-Right Side Bubble-Giggle fiddle found within the confines of a small seldomly used or vacant room in Georgia but I live 0.0.79 degrees away from this spot which makes it just right for that of myself. A Long story and if Ii elaborated on it, I would come across, down under, all around and from Root Chakra to Crown, frankly, insane. So, I digress. Was merely joking with every word up above & if any offense in any dynamically inclined given way, then I Truly am sorry for that silliness which isn't at all like me to do, but I did and feel bad. Alas, it's all moot as one proceeds to scoot boogy on the Cotton Eye'd Josephine's Floor Mats. Love All, regardless remains the only Concrete and Fully with much simplicity into the transference of thought exchanged getting properly through to the next in line and full of All that presents itself as TRULY DIVINE which can NEVER be a silly simple stupid shame of a lie for one's comfort to run and hide.

The actual definition of an artist. Intelligent, creative, inspiring. It's been an evident decline in the music industry to see how bland, processed and moronic current pop music has become. Bjork is one of very very few left that actually produce their own music with passion and from a truly creative and vulnerable place. Love or hate her, she shows a damn sight more soul than anything whatsoever in the current music charts.

Gumball LastRally Artists often come across weird to regular people. The artistic mind can be quite abstract, which is why people much rather have entertainers than artists. I think what you're doing is insulting to your own intelligence, next time you come across an artist, try to explore the work and the ideas behind it instead of labelling things with reductive adjectives, I think you'll find that a very enriching experience. :) or if you don't want to, simply move on and find something you do like face-value. Art is for everyone but not everyone is for art.

Björk is one my favorite artists ever period. I think what I love most about her is that she is a true artist. Her focus is not on stage attitude, or doing the sound that is popular at the moment, but truly expressing the weirdness of her mind in her music. Her creativity is the stuff of legends. She is one of the very, very few musical artists that *actually* says something with her music. She is like the anti-pop sensation.

The media painted her as a bit of a weirdo and I do recall her seeming a bit of a strange character but her music has always been great and I kind of understand her character now. The reality is you have to be a bit strange to be a musician. It's ... I don't know ... But you can't be 'normal' and be a legend. You can be a megastar like Beyonce but not someone who transcends.
