kabbalah has nothing to do with shtreimel, not all jewish stuff are kabbalah related, the majority of most is not from the kabbalah, more from traditions, halachaik and talmudic. the common hipothesis is that it originated in russia when the tzar ordered that the jewish men cannot wear yarmulke (kippah), and because those kind of hat, from a sobol fur, were common among the local pupulation during the winter, so the jewish community used it as a cover for the yarmulke there are other versions to it's origins, like it's was started by forced them were a fur of a animal for humilation and they decided to reclame it, but another common one was that they just said to them self "well, it's europe, it's hecking cold here, we can wear these hats too!
