I have been driving my id5 max full tec pack for 6 months now and is brilliant. Better comfort, better build and riding quality and more quiet than model x I had previously. DCC is great. I tested range with temp between -2 - 6 degree and with heat pump, no eco mode, no air con but auto air mode. I get average 2.4 miles/kwh, around 200 miles mixed motorway and city in UK. That is great consider it only has 77 kw battery. I get 3.5 - 4 miles/kwh, 260 miles mixture use in summer. Software is currently on 3.0 and has slow response but really doesn't bother me because I only probably spend 2% of my time use it and rest of the time driving. Full driving assist is similar to auto pilot on Tesla and works brilliantly, personally I feel safer in ID5 than model x when auto pilot mode is engaged. Not many ID5 max is around in the UK at the moment and hope my 6 months driving experience could contribute to the EV community.

I've come to appreciate the haptic buttons on the steering wheel. Their main advantage is swiping. You don’t need to look down or fidget when you swipe. Simplicity. It took me a while to realize how swiping adjusts ACC cruising speed or sound volume or skips songs. You just swipe your thumbs across the middle of those panels , effortless - no need to look down or find the right buttons. It’s a pity those buttons are misunderstood. Coupled with AR-HUD, I never need to take my eyes off the road.

I like how it will bring you to a stop even if you don’t have the travel assist autosteer enabled. Most other systems that will bring you to a stop need the full autosteer to be enabled.

Haha, the side remark about the warnings in Korean cars.. I drive a Kona Electric and it's sometimes hilarious. If you drive on a smaller road with lots of bends but you can see enough to be able to drive a straighter path using all of the road, the car will inevitably show you a symbol with a cup of coffee and tell you a break is needed... (it thinks you're falling asleep).

The system name is Travel Assist, with it turned off it uses lane assist like all other ID without travel assist. But at least on mine(id3 1st plus) since I don't have travel assist if I don't touch the steering wheel after it warns me it disengages lane assist... Might be that only with travel assist it continues to stay on or might be something related to software 3.0...

Looks like VW is getting more confident and better at their EV designs. Looks like they are going to survive the EV revolution although I am not sure if they will stay at the top.

VW being on top has a lot to do with them buying up as much as possible. They have made brands like Skoda and Seat big for example, but quality and design wise they are just okay and tend to age very quickly i.e. looking like hey have been out for ages. Especially if you compare their prices (at least here in Holland) to Korean or Japanese brands where you get tons more value for (usually) less or similar money. A Japanese car will go on forever and with the same maintenance a VW will get you about 250k kms before it starts becoming too expensive to keep.

When it comes to the actual display panels VW's display is way more touch sensitive than Tesla's. I have used it with leather gloves without any issues. Tesla's display didn't work at all even with very thin gloves (Model 3).

I think both the ID.4 and ID.5 are great cars, but they are too dam expensive. I dont know how VW plan to ship these in insane numbers when the price of a standard ID.5 in Ireland is €61k!! The Ionic 5, which is a similar size as the ID.5 starts at €39,995, €21k cheaper!
@nrml76

The shift to EV will also lead to a shift to lease rather than ownership, especially if service, tyres, insurance etc are all thrown in as a lot of lease providers do already. At that point, the cost of monthly payments is the only thing that will matter to the consumer. Lease companies will buy in bulk at huge discounts and recoup residual value when they sell the vehicles on to the secondhand market, so they can afford to keep costs just low enough to tempt people away from full ownership.
@Cogan1
@Cogan1 2 жыл бұрын
@@nrml76 the cost of leasing still depends on the overall cost of the car. For PCP on the cheapest VW, which has a heat pump and paid extra (ridiculous). Deposit needed is 30% so €17k, then €568 pm for 3 years, then a further €24k remaining balance to pay off afterwards. Monthly payments for cheapest Ionic 5 is €328 with a €14k deposit

sorry to say but I find the designs of ID.3 to ID.5 so... outdated, conservative. They don't inspire like the Hyndai ioniq 5 or 6, the Kia EV6 or other latest Chinese brands like BYD, Nio, Geely... VW has missed the boat.

As he drives away we see an Ioniq 5 on the back of the truck. 😉. Yoooo what's uppppp cough cough lung lost. 😝 No ID 5 for Canada. And they stopped delivering the ID4 3 months ago. I haven't even seen it on the road yet, only one at the dealership when somebody's sold car was sitting in the dealership. Prices in Canada. ID4 AWD top trim. 58k EV6 AWD top trim 62k Ioniq 5 AWD top trim 62k Audi Q4 AWD top trim 70k Model Y AWD 87k. All of the cars get a 5k dollar rebate except the Model Y. Not sure why anybody would buy the Tesla. 22k more than a Q4?? 34k more than a ID4 AWD??? That's crazy. Re: that safety screen warning. Maybe it has a sensor for the passenger seat and if there's no passenger it knows it's the driver being distracted.

978 / 5 000 Oversettelsesresultater I'm your age and have always had German cars and especially VW and MB. My last fossil car was the VW Touareg. Then I also had a VW e-golf. So I bought a new Tesla model 3 which was so incredibly good even though it is an American car that I never thought I would buy. Bought model 3 because it was not possible to buy model Y in early 2021. Now I have got Tesla model Y and have tried VW Id 4 and Id5 and as you say VW is more comfortable but Tesla much more sporty. Tesla is also more practical and as you say regarding charging with only 1 AC compressor, everyone else charges much slower. Even though Germans are trying to catch up with Tesla, they are unfortunately far too far behind. I may be like you a little above average concerned with technology and how the car is designed and works in daily life. Of course always drives with Scan my tesla but also drove with other OBD dongles on German cars. xd Will probably not be able to switch to another brand even if this ID5 looks nicer than Tesla :)

The only ding, dong, beep is the super loud side indicator click ... that would drive me nuts! I'm surprised you don't review the software and dashboard capabilities more of these cars. There's a reason that VW is underperforming in China. The Chinese are more tech oriented and the Germans have fallen behind on the tech side. The ID series look like grandpa cars to me (very Buickesque). The inside is equally crappy with tiny old fashioned screens and fonts, sounds, capabilities. From a performance standpoint it's a boat anchor.
