from what i have understood is that charging your Tesla batt at very high speed, will degrade battery faster. also do not EVER let it get below 20% charge or youll get even more degradation. As well as, dont charge pass 80% or youll get even more degradation. Also outside temperature is another one. If you live in a very cold environment, ill make your batt weaker.

You make a really good showcasing of how much abuse the Tesla batteries can take. The 90 packs have the highest degradation chemistry of all the Teslas (that is why Tesla ditched it for the new 100 packs etc, and why 90-packs get supercharger power limit). So you have the highest degradation chemistry, charge mostly on DC fast charging (not necessarily that bad, but bad for 90-packs), pull trailer which hits you double (almost twice the cycling/km compared to typical, plus the extra degradation/cycle because of high temperature). I think your high-abuse 100.000 km is equal to about 250.000 km for typical use of new Tesla batteries (~170.000 typical km from cycling, +10-15% each for the chemistry, DC charging and high temperature). And still only 8% degradation. Quite impressive in my opinion.
@kasmopaya26765 жыл бұрын
Yes i think so too, at least 200.000 km worth of normal driving. Very good degradation for that. Hearing hat the 90 packs are so bad, i wish even more Optimus was ordered October 2016 for the 100kWh pack. A proper X needs a 100 pack. Part of the reason Optimus has to go now. The 100 pack can charge faster then 120kw. Poor Optimus, doomed from the beginning.
@RFjellstroem5 жыл бұрын
@@kasmopaya2676 I believe (but am not sure) that it was Panasonics silicon mix in the anode that wasn't quite ready for primetime yet for the 90-pack (it is now from what I'm hearing). Since the silicon mix wasn't quite right and silicon changes volume dramatically when charged/discharged (could possibly be exacerbated by heat too like all chemical reactions) the 90-packs were subject to internal structure changes in the cells, particularly rapid ones when supercharging, that could damage the cell capacity. This is very possibly NOT a problem for 90-packs that are charged at home like most are, and they could have "Tesla-normal" (very good) degradation. But for use cases like Bjørns, the 90-packs have higher degradation than other Teslas (but still good compared to "EV-normal")

Some more math for you. Your 100,000 km was done at 324Wh/km which is roughly x1.4 a normal 250Wh/km consumption (Fwiw we get about 230Wh/km in our '18 X75D) so you could say Optimus has the equivalent of +140,000km wear (almost 300,000km Total!). OR you could express this as Charge Cycles. Each cycle is 82kWh when new and now 75kWh. So this averages 78.5kWh. Your total kWh used is almost 64,500kWh and this battery is about half the indicated lifetime of that (I am assuming.) 32,250kWh used in total on this pack assuming the same use with both batteries. Based on an average of 78.5kWh per cycle you are about 410 cycles into the life. I think the batteries are supposed to give 1,000 cycles before they hit 80% (or was it 70%?) of original capacity. Which is -20% degradation. After 243,000km one would expect an 80% charge/range remaining. Of course if you can keep the charge between 20% and 70% at lower charging rates the wear can be reduced by about 1/4. So that's not too far from 1 million km!!!

As a person that drives Teslas everyday for a living this is a realistic for most peoples driving habits but is a false representation of how the battery will degrade these vehicles it's all how you drive it and maintain it in this cause this would be realistic for someone who puts extreme stress on the vehicle and in most cases if he was to actually set autopilot to the speed limit like he is supposed to even with pulling a trailer he wouldn't be seeing any degredation and this vehicle has obviously been run down to nothing many times and realistically if you run a gas car dry a few time if your lucky you will only need to replace the low pressure fuel pump it's simple the vehicle is smart enough to equalize the cells and slowly charge to lengthen the life of the battery his next test should be to compare the etron and see how long it's battery can last under the same extreme conditions
