I feel the need to explain the snow hauling. I also drive a truck and i haul snow in winter here in canada. We scoop up snow from commercial parking lots and city streets and haul it away to "snow dumps" usually large field away from houses and roads. This way in the spring when it all melts it helps to control flooding. Thats why truckers haul snow!

At the end, I think you might actually be rapidgating. There could be a big gap between the coldest and warmest battery cell, which the car does not show in CarScanner (just some average), but BMS takes it into account.

Yeah, but i guess it needs to be a 1000km test, 500 isn’t enough with the bigger battery. Would love to see that, the e-Golf is still one of the best EVs/cars out there. If they’d re-release it with mayne a 50-60 kwh battery…that would be the perfect car for us. Great quality & comfortable, big screens AND buttons, and overall a very good driving experience..

We went from Frankfurt to lillehammer for skiing in an e-golf 2nd. Genaration , with an overnight stay in Hamburg in 2018. This had been just before the boaring trips with model 3 started back in Feb. 2019 with a trip to kvitfjell.😅😅

As long as you stay under around 100 km/h the battery will not heat up from driving in the egolf. If you drive 90 km/h or below it is slowly cooling. Around 1° /h while driving.

Hi - new to the channel, what means "Rapidgating" and "coldgating"? 😊
@nettlesoup
@nettlesoup Жыл бұрын
Rapidgating - car is limiting the allowed charging power it can take from a rapid charger due to, e.g. battery too hot or driver is being penalised by manufacturer for too many rapid charging sessions in a day. Coldgating - car is limiting the allowed charging power due to battery pack or some cells are below optimal temperature (usually happens at or below freezing temperatures). There are various potential techniques available to mitigate this in advance, e.g. preconditioning the car, navigating to the rapid charger (so the car knows it will soon be rapid charging), or rapidly accelerating and decelerating (with regen) for a few minutes to warm up the battery through usage.
@nettlesoup
@nettlesoup Жыл бұрын
It should be noted that different EVs will have good or bad software, good or bad hardware to cope with both the above. For example, a few older cars do not have a coolant loop around the battery to flow coolant liquid through pipes near the cells to allow the higher power rates (both charging and sometimes even discharging) to be maintained. The coolant loop is used both for warming and cooling the battery in more capable EVs, and can utilise heat scavenging from various sources (e.g. coolant loops through the motors and running the motors slightly inefficiently to increase heat generation).

If that truck was carrying snow cleared from a street, that snow is quite possibly full of salt, dirt and whatnot. Dumping it just anywhere would be quite, quite illegal.

I have a US spec 2015 e Golf and when my battery pack is fully charged the KM reading never show that high of a possible distance to o km It must be because the European spec car is not EPA tested so the US spec car will show a more realistic range because when my car was new the EPA estimated range was 83 milles = to 133 km’s so way less than what is shown on this car as 156 km in the winter with possible high consumption rate on average I know with my car in the summer and driving at a slower speed my total distance range shows higher than in the winter because it calculates the previous driving consumption.

I don't know if that "battery temperature" reading is to be trusted. Look at the sped-up footage from @22:25 on - the cabin temperature fluctuates two orders of magnitude more than the supposed "battery temperature" and I find it somewhat unlikely that Volkswagen have that level of control over their battery temps.

The battery is a 300 kg lump of mostly metal. It changes temperature very slowly, especially when there's no thermal management like in the e-golf.

@ichigo19870 Жыл бұрын
@@aeroauto-h1b yeah, I don’t know what kind of deals you guys have in Norway but I think it’s still the better option if you think about driving with a small child and a pregnant wife. I wouldn’t want to get stranded. Plus if the car breaks down you have to repair it and then all the math was for nothing and you actually didn’t save anything from buying a cheap used car.

How much is the down payment?
@ichigo19870
@ichigo19870 Жыл бұрын
@@Scrap-press no downpayment except for most deals you have to pay a „delivery fee“ in Germany between 600-1200 EUR. With my Cupra ST I had to pay 800 EUR. The Citroen C4 I just picked up had no delivery fee and I pay 125 EUR/month for a fully specced version. For EVs though you had to pay a down payment of the exact price of the government „discount“. That was around 4500 EUR but you always got it back. Now it changed though and there are no gov. discounts anymore.

Regardless of leasing or other kinds of financing, buying a new car means taking on more debt which isn't great if you've just bought a house. Leasing is not cheaper it's just a way to keep the cash flow manageable.
@ichigo19870
@ichigo19870 Жыл бұрын
@@torakef sure but you also have warranty and in my case the rates itself are so low it’s a no brainer. Why would you buy a trash car for around 8k instead with the fear in your mind that it could break down any second. No warranty there and then you have even more debt. At least with the lease you have a little peace of mind and probably much more space!

I don’t know who in their right mind would get such car, considering similarly aged diesel golf with these conditions and driving at those speed would do ~1000km in one tank. Also it might actually be cheaper than the DC chargers. And I won’t even mention the end of the life battery that’s due to be changed and means basically the car needs to be scrapped. I am a huge fan of EV technology, but outside of city driving the technology is not there yet!
