It is not a surprise. You are talking about overall percentage of votes secured by both parties in the election. In some constituencies congress has won with huge margins, where as BJP won with less margins in many constituencies. That's why won more seats.

This is a nonsensical analysis. If winner takes all is not the right system what would be. In addition to pointing holes in the system you should also propose better options. Your analysis angle is in wrong direction. YCP got 39% vote, but 11 seat, same 39% DMK won all its contested seats in tamil nadu. U should see the vote share of BJP in winning and losing constituencies. This overall percentage is only useful to do political analysis like yours.

అరే నాయనా నీవు హర్యానా ఎన్నికల నుండి తెలుసుకోవలసిన సంగతేమిటంటే ఓట్ల శాతానికి, సీట్ల సంఖ్యకి సభందంలేదు. ఎట్లాగంటే హర్యానాలోని ముస్లిం జనాభా 90%వున్న మూడు నియోజకవర్గాల్లో కాంగ్రెస్కు 90%ఓట్లు వచ్చాయి. అలాగే కొన్నిచోట్ల భాజపాకి వచ్చాయి. అట్లాగే భాజపాకి 14 నియోజకవర్గాలలో కాంగ్రెస్ కంటే ఎక్కువవచ్చాయి. విధంగా భాజపా గెలిచినది.
