Love this VIDEO!!! I’m so happy you told her she wasn’t wearing enough sunscreen. It’s my biggest pet peeve. Yes it’s 1/4 tsp people. I have a1/4 tsp measuring spoon in my sunscreen bin and every time I try a new sunscreen I measure and take note of how many pumps that fill the 1/4 tsp if it’s very liquidity sunscreen I do the 2 finger rule at first then measure. Some sunscreens are 2 fingers worth or a full 4! Also Korean sunscreens are the bomb. I love Numbuzin and Haru Harka I think the yellow one

Lisa J - I hate to mention (bring on the haters) it but with as little that was left in that SPF bottle, you DO NOT have 1 month left, you may have a week, if that. If you are using a pea-sized drop, you are not using enough to get the SPF protection listed on the bottle. You need 2 to 3 finger lengths of SPF to get the protection you need. I say this as someone who lost an aunt and uncle and a friend to skin cancer. Please use enough SPF, apply rain or shine, all year around. And Penn's right, Asian SPF are stellar, beautiful and elegant texture, lightweight. I love Missha, Beauty of Joseon and Annessa (by Shiseido) are all incredibly elegant, with new-technology ingredients and lightweight. *end rant* I'm glad Penn mentioned Korean skincare, very effective skincare at a substantial discount. The Missha Time Revolution Night Serum and Essence were so good, they replaced my tried and true Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair and SK II Essence (both products that I'd used for over 20 years). I wonder if Lisa J would be able to use a next generation Retin Al vs retinol, effective but gentler?

Hi do you really like the Anessa one ? It seems every sunscreen has one or more issues : pills , gets gummy eventually as the day goes on etc etc . This new Korean sunscreen my sister gave me is a gel watery white consistency and at first it seems it’s invisible but as the day wears on , I start to see little slivers of dried sunscreen . I don’t have time to let my moisturizer absorb for a long time in the mornings before I slather on sunscreen so maybe that would have prevented it but it’s just not practical . Such letdowns and I’m tired of wasting money .
@RockeyToes
@RockeyToes 5 ай бұрын
@@SleeplessinOC I really like it but the variables may be the skincare that goes on previous to the SPF or how it's applied? One thing I do is simplify the morning routine, I will use products that multi-task. So an example is, in order of use: 1)AHA wash (I like Loreal 3.5% AHA) 2) Missha Essence (pat in) 3) Vit C serum, Vanicream Vit C serum (5% THD ascorbate), Timeless or DRMTLGY Vitamin C5x (a moisturizer and five types of vitamin C, great for all skin types and is a moisturizer and a Vit C all in one), pat in 4) SPF. SPFs that haven't pilled on me with the above routine are: Missha Essence SPF, Haru Haru Black Rice SPF 50 PA ++++, Anessa, Shiseido Waso SPF 30 (now discontinued), Hada Labo SPF 50 (blue jar), Cetaphil Sheer Mineral Face SPF 50, For SPF application, I dot three fingers worth around my face and use a beauty blender to bounce/apply. Hope that helps! There's no reason to spend a ton of $$, I do love several drug store items and they are very effective!

Hi Penny, Have you ever tested Tarte Knockout as an alternative to BR P50? It is never advertised, but it still sells. There is a small travel size to test. On sunscreen, I think it was Glow by Ramon who discusses measuring your face for the quantity of sunscreen. I have discovered from that and my optician saying I have a petite face and should use glasses for that, I have a smaller face than the one (a man?) probably measured for the recommendation of ¼ tsp. Whew, that was a sentence. For years I have been using ¼ tsp as recommended, even though it has never absorbed on my dry skin, no matter which I used. I have now used a little less, and it is much better. Could you investigate this? Thank you for all you do and for bringing us this video.

Also, if I use a tinted sunscreen like the Alastin, I don't use the full amount. I lay down a full base of untinted sunscreen, and then use the tinted, maybe a half the required amount. My pinhead just can't use so much!
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE 5 ай бұрын
That makes a lot of sense! I agree, 1/4 teaspoon is a generalization. Maybe the 2 fingers are a better gauge for you assuming your hands are proportional to your body 🙂🙂 (which is pretty likely lol). And funny thing!! Several years ago I did a video (pretty sure it was here on KZbin) and I called the Tarte knockout a great alternative to P50! You’re totally right!!

I really don’t understand anyone who says you don’t have to wash your face with cleanser in the morning. Formulators work tirelessly trying to find effective ways to get skincare actives into the deeper layers of the skin where they need to go; there is ZERO percent chance they’re going to get there if you’ve still got occlusives on your skin from the night before. So, unless you’re not using actives, it seems logical to me you’re going to have to remove product from the skin before you do your morning routine.
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE
@PENNSMITHSKINCARE 5 ай бұрын
Fair point. I personally wash in the morning but everyone is different, some people do not use actives- have sensitive, dry skin that is effected by washing (barrier). Those people may choose to not disrupt their barrier in the morning. It’s so personal that each person can (and should) decide that for their skin health.

Great video . Just one question . I asked a chemist friend of mine to use an off the shelf hypochlorous face treatment and combine it with a vitamin c face serum . The Hypochlorous acid totallyl destroyed the vitamin c serum . So this amazing acne ingredient acts as a pro oxidant . Surely if you are using as as part of your daily routine and then applying anti oxidants to your skin it’s just destroying them . I also asked her to test my skin by applying the Hypochlorous acid to my face we waited an hour then applied the vitamin c and it still destroyed the anti oxidant capacity . What is the best way to use this ingredient ? Thank you x

Honestly this has been a recent question of mine as well- I’m thinking it’s an either/or situation. Hypocholorous acid in one part of the routine and antioxidants in another. I’ll certainly investigate it further. I’m surprised by the wait time + still destroying the C. How was it tested on your skin? How did you know it was destroyed?

The biologique recherche p50 1970 version is banned in the uk and the EU because of phenol. I wonder why that is - what s wrong with phenol? “The controversy behind the Lotion P50 1970 stems from the inclusion of one main ingredient called 'Phenol', which is banned by the FDA in the UK and European Union. It is available in select spas and stockists in the US, but the Lotion P50 1970 is not available to purchase here in the UK.”

I know, it’s interesting. Phenol is used in much (much) stronger concentrations to do major peels. At those high concentrations it can affect the heart….obviously the P50 isn’t that high but I do wonder if that’s part of the reason for the UK ban?

I get the feeling that Lisa likes the expensive stuff. I am always pleased to hear Penny say that good skin care doesn't have to break the bank. And did I miss it, or in all that morning and evening routine there was no Vitamin C and no Retinol? Had zero results with La Mer… much better results with Innisfree and Mediheal both Korean products very well priced… so good.

Every time you I hear you talk about conductivity I wish you would do a deep dive into great conductivity alternatives. I hate the gel my Nuface comes with. It dries down too fast and sometimes I feel like it dries out my skin. I feel like you are the only person who talks about this!

You have to have $$$ for an Esthetician though… it is not cheap to go to one.

Most of the stuff they are taking about is out of reach for most of us unfortunately…. and I don’t find them that effective. Tatcha has amazing moisturizers and so does Shiseido.

Biossance Squalene and Omega is a fantastic moisturizer for $70 and kills La Mer in my humble opinion. Give it a shot.
