This was a lot of fun to watch. It reminds me of how much fun TV used to be. In the days before the current television landscape was littered with a lot of mindless garbage. We need more programs like this more than ever before. I know it will be awhile before the color seasons of MTS start coming out on DVD. They are up to season one, at the present time. I could watch a marathon of this for hours at a time any old day of the week.

I’ll never forget: this was the video that ultimately sealed my interest on collecting 16mm films. Discovered this video in 2012, and I was amazed. Finally got my first 16mm print in October of 2012, a print of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show”. I’ve never looked back since, because it’s such a wonderful hobby!

A little FYI: The saxophone that you hear in the theme song is played by none other than Fred McMurray himself. Besides being an actor, he was also a big band saxophonist as well as a singer.

I was a kid when this show aired, and I only knew Fred MacMurray from "My Three Sons" and Disney movies. As I got older, I was surprised to learn about his film career and the roles he played, in westerns, film noir, or even as Keefer in "The Caine Mutiny". Always enjoyed his performances.

Nice to hear the end credits not sped up and time compressed. This is a great show. I have it complete on a set of grey area dvd's taped from tv since CBS took to long to release it and those half a season dvd's are stupid. Yes, shows used to have 39 episodes in one season people! Thanks for sharing this with us.

I always get nostalgic when I hear the crackle of a 16mm optical sound track and see light fogged leader, academy countdown complete with the LAD frames for the color timers. I was an A/V nerd in school and my first job out of high school was at Russell Film Labs in Jacksonville, Florida. I loved that job, really depressed when they went out of business in 1980.

This appears to be Color episode 1 of the first year on CBS, the '65-66 season opener when Mike and Sally get married and leave the show. In syndication, the opening credits for this episode seem to add " and Don Grady...." as an afterthought, as you can tell here. Great closing theme version also, and the Viacom without audio is a bit odd.

I LOVE the LEADER stuff! With that "mystery lady" that changed every decade or so - ya gotta freeze the frame between the 4 and the 3 (usually) to see her - they insert her amidst the numeric countdown, for a nanosecond, I have no idea what she is there for, color registration maybe? In this video, it is on or around 12 or 14 seconds in. She fascinates me. Years later, she was replaced by a Mod.

I was trying to figure out what year this was from by the opening credits. When I saw Tim Considine's name, I knew it was 1965. This was from the very first color episode they ever made. It could have been Tim's name in the credits if he hadn't have left after this episode. I have never heard Don's name in a voiceover before - interesting clip.

My 3 sons seems loosely based upon Eli And Samuel Ruth and David. Ecclesiastes 4:9-13 King James Version 9 Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken. 13 Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
