He's a genius!!! I'd listen to him yell at me any day, especially since I know that what he teaches will save me from injury and TEACH me how to properly do the asana and align so that I don't cause my body injury in the future. Westerners want things delivered with sugar on top, and sugar is one of the worse poisons on Earth! If a child is about to step into fire you would yell, and YET if an adult is about to twist their knee in asana (creating micro-tears in their meniscus that could, with repeated yoga practice, get worse and require surgery) we say nothing. We cannot compare Iyengar Yoga to what is taught in the west. It's like comparing apples and oranges. Iyengar teaches disciplined practice. North American yoga (generally speaking) lacks discipline unfortunately.

The Doctors in Pune are very Happy, about the Iyengar Ashram,... keeps them busy :-) I prefer the methods/teachings of Patanjali. I got injured , because they push you always and overstretch your muscles. Over my 20 Years visiting India I can recommend Yogapoint.com ,... traditional Hatha and Ashtanga Yoga, how it should be. But it's an Indian University and Ashram, not suitable for most western people. What makes a human a genius ? Teaching Yoga ? For sure he was a god businessmen and in the eyes of many Indian Yoga Teachers,... he was just flexible, but not a good teacher. Anyway,.... if it works for you,...it's fine. :-)

@Just1Humanoid4 жыл бұрын
@@louloupeacelove1022 What does this addiction bring? :) It´s a sincere question. Because in the modern life (of mine), I find it very difficult to commit to one discipline. Being 27 years old, I have had a spell of life for 3 years (21-24) where I did yoga every day twice, meditation twice and it did really help me through that difficult phase I was going through, but at the same time my Master has told me - you are still not in that situation to commit to one single discipline, because everything around you is changing so fast - so in order to keep up with it, you must adapt as well and keep in touch with different aspects of life. Otherwise one would have to crawl in a remote cave somewhere in mountains and observe breathing 24/7, which is possible to start doing anytime anyways... I am a little bit confused, but I feel I must trust the words of my master and just try to soak in all aspects of life - including drinking from time to time and indulging in different passions (as well as meditating and doing yoga on semi-regular basis). Maybe some day path will be as clear as the blue sky? who knows... anyway, I was feeling the need to express myself. Namaste and have a good day/night, whoever reads it :).

If you had spent only a couple of minutes in the company of BKS IYENGAR within seconds you would have realised that you were RIGHTLY in the company of a MASTER of YOGA, an AUTHENTIC and GENUINE GURU of YOGA. But you would have realised also that you were completely wrong in assuming that BKS IYENGAR was whatever negative opinion you might have had of him (if ever). I myself was of the opinion that he was a man VERY DIFFICULT to APPROACH and VERY SEVERE. BUT I was wrong. He was GENTLE and SOFT as butter, SWEET as HONEY, REFRESHING AS A GENTLE BREEZE, an EXTREMELY HUMBLE person. BUT he was an ARDENT and an ADAMANT practitioner of YOGA. He was a man who had dedicated his WHOLE LIFE to YOGA, a COMMITTED and ENTHUSIASTIC GURU (teacher) and a SUPER-EXPERT of YOGA, and NATURALLY he VALUED ONLY YOGA that was associated only with THE GENUINE PRESENTATION;

🙏 With all due respect & humble apologies, in many of his talks the, 'Yoga Sūtras,' are misinterpreted by Revered Śrī Iyengarjī. दृष्टांनुश्रविकविषयवितृष्णस्य वशीकारसंज्ञा वैराग्यम्। 'Those who do not have hankering for the objects Seen or Heard of, have attained lower Vairāgya i.e. Dispassion, named Vaśikāra or Control.' No doubt that, Śrī Iyengarjī was an Āsana Pravīņa i.e. accomplished in practising different postures, but Yoga is not merely practice of Āsana. There is a great difference between Āsana Pravīņa & Āsana Siddha. Our life span is short hence, be wisdomful in Yoga practice because I met few who spent twelve precious years of their lives in attaining success in Hand-stand-posture, pathetic! Truly quoted by Sage Patanjali, अविद्या क्षेत्रम् उत्तरेषां......... Ignorance is the source of the Kleṣas, the Afflictions, the basis of all sufferings & sorrows.

For all the westerners and first world Indians who are offended by the great master's anger or grumpiness - you have to understand the cultural difference between old south east Asian and western attitudes - I don't find it unusual - his tone or anger - you can see similar culture in martial arts teachers from yester years. I am not knowledgeable enough to say how yogic or not he is , but all I know is we all learnt while getting screwed everyday by our masters and we never felt offended - because we knew where it was coming from and it made us better. The western ppl get offended easily and make a huge ruckus. And obviously have misplaced priorities where the children don't have proper punishment and reward behaviour reinforcement, the teacher can't punish the pupil but the pupil can resort to bullying.

Many people get on the asana merry-go-round and never get off or move to other things. Asana does not lead to enlightenment or even being a better person, unless someone's is just trying hard for that anyway. The healthy body is so that you can sit and meditate, and other things can potentially happen with subtle energy that make it easier to get a one-pointed mind. But postures by themselves don't lead to the spirituality. I had an Iyengar teacher that used to joke, once you got into the pose, "Do you feel enlightened yet?" It was said sarcastically. But she didn't teach anything beyond asana, maybe just a little pranayama. So I get the joke but I wondered, why not teach these things that lead to transcendent states? Why just become the police with perfect yoga postures if it is not to go further?
