A couple years ago I checked out Buffalo Creek and had fun doing the loop backwards and forwards. This time we go way beyond the loop and check out the new Weed Patch Trail. It’s an epic out and back. A great day for the last ride on my Ripmo.

Fun fact- Glaciers never made it as far south as N.C. The boulders at Weed Patch actually are not the result of the glacial retreat as Brandon indicated. The boulders at Weed Patch are the result of rockfall and landslides that MAY have happened during the last ice age time period when tree-lines were at lower elevations leaving the rock faces exposed. The rockfalls/landslides are also continuing to occur. And Weed Patch is fun.

Thanks - was just commenting on this. They are a result of erosion & slough over time - no true landslides out there tho, but there are some secret boulderfields if you get way offtrail...

I lived out near Bat Cave for a couple of years. I haven't been back to check this one out though! If you ever get a chance, walk the boulder fields at Rumbling Bald. Also, the Rocky Broad which flows into Lake Lure is one of the best free flowing whitewater creeks in WNC. Such an awesome area.

Unfortunately, I think you mean once the world has reopened. We won't be getting rid of this one virus:( We all will get it at some point. (like the cold/flu) we will, most of us, get sick. We are trying to lighten the load on healthcare by staggering the infection over time. Currently, a percentage need respirators to breathe ot they die. We don't have enough respirators in hospitals or the people to run them all if everyone gets sick right now. Those of us who are self quarantined are essentially deciding to wait for as long as we can to allow Healthcare to catch up.

Nice piece - love the Patch (and have roamed it offtrail, top to base over 20 yrs before the trail ever went in). Not major at 4:45 or its noted that the rocks are from "glacial retreat". Not at all - N. American glaciers stopped around central PA (the "moraine") and everything south of it is entirely unglaciated and exists completely due to erosion, exposure, slides (etc) over the last 30M years after uplift. The closest thing are boulderfield forests - a glacial era relict (though not truly glacial) from before & after glacial peak 12-18,000 yrs ago when possibly mtn glaciers w/ tons of ice / snow permanently parked on NW/North/NE/East facing coves froze & thawed for 1000's of years cracking up all the rock under them & leaving what are now rock-to-rock boulderfields that are now forested. Anyway - awesome vids, love yr wok - as an ecologist I can't even bike anywhere w/o analyzing natural communities / geo / plants / wildlife so - just lettin' ya know. Oh, and I have Ripmo envy.

I have had the... pleasure?(eh no) at different times in life of being: ...extremely obese due to medication, diet and lack of exercise. (2 years ago I was 100 pounds heavier... ... having a low constitution from smoking tobacco (its real people, I quit smoking 15 years ago and I quit getting sick every season change...hell or at all really . I haven't been sick in so many years... or ... sickly from drugs and /or alcohol. Right now, in this moment I am grateful for this mountain biking obsession that has taken all my fat and whipped me into good health! Stay healthy and safe people!
