In this Thrills with Phil, myself and a few other Mountain bikers from Lees McRae head to Wilson's Creek Pisgah to ride Yancey's ridge. It's located right behind GrandFather Mountain in the North Western parts of North Carolina

MiKeZee I wish I could tell you the secret but it's more boring than you'd expect, it's just riding your bike a lot and getting used to being in hairy situations. It just becomes normal and the more casual it feels the better you are able to react. There's definitely times when I get scared, and being scared tenses you up which is the last you want.

Wow, Phil ! You had it pinned wide open. QUESTION: Can you do an in-depth tutorial on how you to corner at Mach 2 ?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
+PhantomRider86 haha only mach 1. I do have a video on conering both flat and berms. But I could expand on it.
@phantomrider867 жыл бұрын
Yes, that would be great if you explained the mechanics of body movements and timing as you hit a berm. Looking at your videos, it looks like you are steering with a hip movement, kind of like you have a rudder on the bike, pushing the bike into the corner to make an abrupt change in direction. One second it looked like you were going to smash into a huge tree, the next second you suddenly change direction and continue on your way, blitzing the trail! Sick riding !!

@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын

@rohinbakrania3477 жыл бұрын
this was a sick video and sick riding. is there a reason why you don't upload in 60fps, I imagine it look less blocky if you know what I mean...
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
+Rohin Bakrania it would honestly look worse (I've tried). KZbin doesn't double the bit rate for 60fps, so now you'd have even more compressed footage. Additionally I can't record 60fps in 4k. Patreon supporters can watch these videos on Vimeo and it allows for a much higher output bit rate with less compression.
@uprockbiddy7 жыл бұрын
Just a suggestion: you could upload your videos on Vimeo also and put links in the description. Vimeo may load slower to some people but it's an alternative to those pixelated leaves. I'm loving the video, Phill, but it's very annoying watching it like it's the '90s

New sub here, I am still unfamiliar with Phil's work and I'm not sure if it's the Karma making it look even faster. Was the 40 plus minutes climbing to ride back on the same route downhill, or was this flying (rocketing) down blind trails on the other side of the mountain?
@SkillsWithPhil7 жыл бұрын
Hey welcome! The 40minutes was essentially just climbing fire roads to get to the point where I started descending. A lot of times I'll provide a strava link in the description of the ride but here strava decided to stop working on me this ride. I don't think the Gimbal would make the riding look any faster. I do have a Professional downhill background. Cheers!

Dude gopro really needs to address the compression issue with their video. I guess its a tough nut to crack when you have so much detail in the shot, but this got really bad when you flying through the woods. Bummer the picture gets so mashed up, cuz the riding is amazing!
@kitten-inside7 жыл бұрын
They could add a mode that uses full resolution bandwidth for lower resolution video. The upper limit is processing power. It is kinda difficult to stick a PC CPU in that thing. Not enough room, cooling, or battery power.
@akleiw17 жыл бұрын
I bet the footage straight out of the camera looked amazing. It's the KZbin's compression that introduces those artefacts. Hey, Phil, you should look into ND filters, they force GoPros to use longer shutter speeds which in turn results in smoother video with a nice motion blur around the edges. That makes it a lot more digestible by KZbin's codecs.
@mountaindirtbikingwithjere33707 жыл бұрын
60 fps is even worse, I've tried. (60 fps video needs even bigger bitrate to look good but youtube doesnt allow that) But yeah watching these vids in 4k makes them look better!
@mountaindirtbikingwithjere33707 жыл бұрын
I remembered that youtube doesnt double the bitrate for 60fps a so it would look worse but if I remembered wrong then my point is invalid
@kitten-inside7 жыл бұрын
You can upscale your 1440p recording to 4K before uploading it to YT. It won't add pixels, but it will trick YT to provide a higher bitrate. That's what some gaming channels do.
