zzeus43 You said it mate! Malcom Young was my hero with that huge guitar he called "the beast", but I was floored to find out they play absolutely clean. No distortion, few Barre chords, etc. They just plugged straight into Marshall amps and let it rip. Actually read when Malcom laid down the rhythm in the recordings, he used a very small amp barely turned up. The production makes it sound like it's roaring. AC/DC is the perfect example of a straight up, no frills rock n roll band

@@PastorOfMuppets74 Damn right, Malcolm was probably one the greatest rhythm guitarists of all time. I do have a couple of points though. The guitar, modified a Gretsch Jet G6131MY, isn't "huge", it's a perfectly normal sized guitar (I have a Jet), it's just that Malcolm was absolutely tiny. Also, in the world of guitars, very few actually have names, like Eric Clapton's "Blackie" Stratocaster or Peter Green's (then Gary Moore's and, currently Kirk Hammett's) "Greeny" Les Paul, and, although, Malcolm did refer to his guitar as the the Beast that name was already taken, it belongs to a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard, owned and played by Bernie Marsden. Sorry to be a pedantic pain in the arse.
@PastorOfMuppets74
@PastorOfMuppets74 5 жыл бұрын
@Gordon Mansell Nope, I agree with everything you said. Most I already knew... Like it being a Gretsch etc and Malcom being so small. I was kinda trying to keep it simple for Justin. Malcom was my inspiration. I play, and I play rhythm. I went with a LP n Vox but it's good! God bless his beloved soul. One of the greatest pure rock song writers of all time and the playing... OMG! Who can lay down such punishing rhythm guitar with that tone? It's like having an extra member of the rhythm section. His timing is impeccable. Angus stole the show, and while he's certainly a phenom in his own right, Malcolm will be remembered in history as the "AC/DC sound". Love it. Thanks so much man! \m/ Keep rockin!! (Edit... Would you say the Jet is as big as a Gibson ES 335 or bigger/smaller? Trying to get an idea in my head. Love big wide necks and big heavy guitars lol) Even tho the 335 is a hollow body. Just talking Sq area not weight
@glqm88
@glqm88 5 жыл бұрын
@@PastorOfMuppets74 Absolutely, that sound is all Malcolm, even if Angus got all the headlines. The Jet is slightly bigger than a Les Paul but is smaller than a 335, I've got a Gibson DG 335 (how many guitars do I need? Just one more! lol) and it's bigger, but probably not heavier, although 335s aren't proper hollow bodies, they are semi-hollow - there is a large chunk of wood right through the centre of the body. My heaviest guitar is probably an R9 Les Paul, around 11 lbs in weight, and that has a big fat 1959 neck.

Now though women and girls lead the narrative world and music that is made by men talking about sex from a masculine consumer attitude is shamed and hardly ever made anymore. Rock is a dead genre in the 21st century. All the good stuff was made back in the 60's to the 80's. Cowboys were at least men and so was Rock and Roll in the 80's. But now we are women run, so no more freedom of behavior/personality for men anymore. Even Alice Cooper is a knuckledragging ally second to his wife now, no spirit of his single male individual male sexual self at all anymore to relate to young men with. If you don't post you kids pics to instagram that you had with your head of house wife who has a bigger career than you then you aren't woke modern male in step with the times. Women hate passionate "uncivilized" male sexuality now and treat all male energy as toxic unless it's woman lead.

That's EXACTLY what it was like at my house. My mom hated music,too. I thought I was the only person in the world who had a mother(or knew anybody that didn't like SOME kind of music). And my dad liked Marty Robbins, and Eddy Arnold and crap like that. I listened to AC/DC through headphones b/c I didn't want to hear the $hitstorm if they had heard Hells Bells, or ANY hard rock songs for that matter.

Unfortunately, AC/DC pretty much got blamed for created the 'Night Stalker' serial killer Richard Ramirez back in the 1980s. They found an AC/DC hat at one of the crime scenes and he was an avid fan of their music. Sure, they talk about Hell, Satan, blah, blah - they're just a hard rock band and one of the best of all time, at that. I met Brian Johnson once and there isn't a nicer guy on the planet. They're certainly not infatuated with Hell, Satan and all of that.

Judas Priest also got blamed for the2 teenage boys who commited suicode, well one did, the other suffered a workd of pain after he shot himself in the face. The family tried to sue the band for damages as they said their music had sublimial messages in it, like that was resposable for their actions. There'll always be messages you can fit with with listening to music backwards. Also the survivor ended up suceeding om his suicide attempt.

I've seen em live 4 times and every show they left everything they had on that stage. Ppl say "it's simple 3 chord blues rock. What's the biggie?" EXACTLY what you said. Everything was like a machine. Impeccable timing. I could go on all day. There seems to be a movement w/ the youth, I see them wearing AC/DC tees and Idk if they're tryin to be hip or what but I hope it's because they discovered the timeless music of this band. Hell's Bells is part of a phrase used back in the late 19th and early 20th century. Some think it came from sailors back then, when they would end up in a bad situation, saying death is coming for them. AC/DC is not, nor hae they ever been satanic. They just liked to use dark themes at times to paint a picture. hey also used it because it was not the norm for that time, for a little shock value.

Well said. I've been a fan of AC/DC since the early 1980's. Greatest band in the world, by my thinking. My only disappointment with them, though, has been the lyrics to a few of their songs (out of their large library of music), as well as their use of devil horns during their shows, as those who do not know them can misconstrue them as being satanic, rather than just mischievous and playful, and be led astray as a result.

They're about as hard as it gets for this particular type of rock...the way the play AND the way the live (or lived)...two members have passed>>Mr. Malcom Young, the one struggling to hold up the guitar...and the incomparable, Mr. Bon Scott, the original lead singer - (drank himself to death, poor soul) can't think of a quicker way to get to Hell though~Anyway, this video is another homerun...great breakdown of an amazing song- B. in Boston

"Hell's bells" was sometimes used as an expression, like "Holy Cow" or WTF. This song is from the first album with Brian Johnson as lead singer, called Back in Black. It was so named because the original singer, Bonn Scott, died. So Hell's Bells could also be a sort of recognition of Bonn's death. They didn't worship Satan. This was their "Schtick". Their whole "Black Album" was a memorial to their former singer Bon Scott who had just died. At first they were going to break up the band but then they decided to forge on finding Brian Johnson as their new lead singer. As a side note, AC/DC didn't stand for "Anti-Christ/Devils Children", they got this from the emblem on their Sisters/Mothers? sewing machine. That's all it meant.

Anybody who lives in America and says that they haven't heard AC/DC on the radio is either deaf or not paying attention to the rock radio station that they are listening too. When I was visiting from Australia in 2017, I drove from Los Angeles to New Orleans and return, it seemed like every 6th or 7th song was an AC/DC song on the radio.

"If you listened to AC/DC in the 70's, you were definitely ok with going to Hell." Had me rolling son! You need to listen to 'Riff Raff'. The original, with Bon Scott still fronting the band.

sadly they are, but aren't no more...I AM A HUGE FAN, been to a dozen live shows have the albums...etc...but IMO the band, sadly, is no more, especially in the US Angus Young, lead Guitarist, still alive and touring Malcolm Young, Angus's brother and his rhythm guitar very influential in their signature sound, RIP, their nephew, Steve Young has stepped in Bon Scott, Lead Singer prior to Back in Black, RIP Brian Johnson, Lead Singer, having pitch issues related to his hearing loss, Axl Rose of 'Guns and Roses' fame been appearing occasionally live with Angus Cliff Williams, Bassist retired in 2016, rumors are he recorded latest album with though Chris Slade, Drums, due to criminal convictions in Australia not allowed in USA so sadly, the band I started listening to in 1980, no longer exists in my eyes and if Angus keeps touring, personally should rename, 'Angus and friends playing AC/DC' or something to that effect, because imo....AC/DC no more

If you want to hear a lot of AC/DC music watch the Stephen King movie from back in the 80's called "Maximum Overdrive." Only movie Stephen King ever directed. The entire soundtrack is AC/DC and it's not a bad movie.

Sorry I am always partial to Bon Scott, cannot really handle Brian Johnson's vocals. He just screams and tries way TOO MUCH! This album was written when Bon Scott was still alive, and it is the last truly great AC/DC album. I know that they couldn't do much about Bon dying, but after this AC/DC went on the "same album every album" formulaic nonsense they would continue the rest of their careers. I recommend you listen to the Bon Scott albums.

This song was a tribute to Bon Scott, AC-DC's singer before Brian Johnson. Bon Scott was the singer on Highway To Hell who died right before they were preparing to record this album. Johnson literally joined at the last minute to record Back in Black album which has gone on to sell 25 million units since 1980.

By the way this is a different singer from Highway to hell. Thats singer died right after that was made and just before this was made. Slight shock value. I think it was more about Hells and Bells rhyming as they are known for very simple but powerful music. Songs by them and others had far greater shock value than this before and after. Like "The Jack." I believe the jack in Australia where they are from is the same as the clap here. Or Whole Lotta Rosie. Thats about a VERY large woman and sex with a very large woman. "Squeeler" She likes to squeal. And of course "Big Balls." LOL. Big Balls is a play on words. He is obviously singing about his balls but he is pretending he is singing about a dance ball. One line from the song is,"My balls are always bouncing from the left to the right. It's my belief that my big balls should be held every night." See, far worse shock value than this. LOL.

This song comes from their 1980 album "Back In Black" 1 year prior to this album their original singer Bonn Scott passed away, this is why they named it back in black. They're back, but in black. The song was written during a storm, "Coming on like a hurricane" " White lightning flashing across the sky"

The way of AC/DC? 25-30 of your crew, good even mix guys / girls. Gather round the bonfire, turn up the stereo until you have to yell to hear yourself talk, and consume copious amounts of Jack Daniels and weed. Dance around like you don't care, because you are too tore up to care, pair off with a honey and jump in the van, or the back seat and do what y'all want. That's a summer party early 80s style.

They were different in the 70s, the late great Bon Scott was the singer, you should react to TNT or It's a Long Way To The Top If You Want To Rock N Roll, or Big Balls, the 70s is where AC/DC made their name, this is on 1980 Back in Black, the first album released after the death of Bon Scott, he was supposed to be the singer on this album, but they had to find a new singer and the album was dedicated to Scott.

Ok Justin Ima tryin break it down to you. AC/DC were already hugh world wide in the late 70's & by the time Back In Black came out in 80' Everything b4 then was with a different vocalist Bon Scott but when he passed away Brian Johnson became the new singer. However the style of their music changed very little in that its always been high energy bluesy in your face Rock & Roll. In fact i was bout 14 when Back In Black came out & at first i didn't even realize they had a new singer for the band..

It was written(in memory) for the original singer,Bon Scott,who died of acute alcohol poisoning on February 29,1980.He was found dead in a car parked on a street in London.His official cause of death is classified as (death by misadventure)They even had a real bell poured with the bands logo on it.

So this was recorded after the original lead singer, Bon Scott, died. They were dealing with mourning the loss of their close friend and dealing with the reality of trying to find a replacement vocalist while folks were talking smack about the band being dead and never coming back. Personally, I think that this album was both a memorial to their friend and a big FU to the folks that were spreading rumors about the band being dead and gone. Notice how much energy they put into it....it was a middle finger in the air kind of album. Personally, I don't have a preference between the two lead singers, but appreciate that both had mad skills in different ways. Check out "Night Prowler", "It's a Long Way To The Top" and "Have A Drink on Me".

This song is written from the point of view of Satan. Just like "Sympathy For The Devil" by the Rolling Stones and "N.I.B" by Black Sabbath. But it was this song that scared the shit out of me as a little kid. It's so evil but it totally rocks.
