The courier guy vid is a classic....thebackground is that the guy demonstrating was made famous because he was the driver of a cash in transit truck that they tried to force off the road and the in vechile camera footage was posted to youtube giving the guy Chuck Norris status

The funniest SA ad I’ve seen was a Toyota bakkie one, where the young farmer type guy gets out of his bakkie and then spots a pretty girl He then goes into a shop and comes out with a haircut, clean shaven and wearing a nice pink shirt to impress the lady Then he tries to unlock the bakkie and it won’t unlock for him. He stands there begging the bakkie and says, come on man, it’s me! I’m just wearing a different shirt!

Americans would never get the Nando's advert without an indepth explanation! In South Africa when one gets pulled over by the traffic police, whether one has done something wrong or not, the likely reason is that the cop is seking a bribe! It is couched in terms of give me "lunch money" and I will let you off.... These interactions are often the VERY opposite of light-hearted and often include heavy intimidation, and even weapons drawn... Refusal to pay the bribe will often result in violent arrest with serious charges laid! When the Nando's advert says "we tell it like it isn't" they are doing the exact psychological reverse of how events play out on the roads in South Africa EVERY DAY! Nando's has taken a real swipe at the criminal and corrupt elements in the various police forces in South Africa and their customers understand exactly what is being played out since nearly all of them have been victims of this kind of crime (by the cops) at one time or another!

The "Come to me" commercial was actually a TV skit made in the UK by British actors. Google "Air Afrikaans". South Africans mostly found this offensive and degrading. I certainly did. I don't know who co-opted it as a commercial.

Backstory on the courier ad where the guard is teaching self defence... That particular guard in the ad was involved in a real life cash in transit heist. The video went viral this side. Him and his partner were like in a real life gun battle with dudes who hit licks on these cash delivery vans. So he like blew up because of that strory cause they handled that situation like a boss and like it was just a story in which nobody died. Should check the video out.
