I was a teenager in Joburg in the 90s. I remember that part of Joburg as the “east rand”. People had less money there was more concrete and it was more sketchy, but I had great church friends there and the people were great. There was a good skate park in Benoni.

Im from Van dyk Park which is a neighborhood where a single street seperates Boksburg and Brakpan. If you guys go decide to go to a pub in Brakpan, you should go to Either Wildebees or Dingos which are on North Rand Road in Boksburg, but they capture that Bemoerde triangle energy perfectly😹. As a black guy i always go to these pubs to enjoy being the center of attention until they play Nkalakatha.

Funny enough it actually gets proper service delivery unlike most parts of SA which some deem better . It looks clean, potholes are few infact it looked like the streets were wide and well maintained , working traffic lights, you still felt safe enough to interview people, I saw houses with low fences on your video which already tells me it's a bit safer - when last did you see those in an area that's not in an area without a boom gate. It may be regarded as a dead town but maybe what people are saying is weird about it is actually helping keep more bad people away. Go to some parts of joburg, good publicity attracts also the worst of things. It depends on what you see as a person. Great video guys. 👍

Oh no...!!!!Buddy we Brakpanites used to bliksem the Springs guys in their own bars ...!!! i know..... because in the 70,s .....i was one of those Brakpan guys that did the moering........One Friday night we were 4 guys from Brakpan and we decided to go and turn Springs upside down .....we went to the Veld en Vlei hotel....in Springs ......Started making trouble .....and you know what .?...the Springs guys in the bar called the cops .!!!!....and there were about 10 of them...!!!...tough arnt they.......lol......No Springs guys were sh....t...scared of Brakpanites ...!!!........We kicked their asses everytime we played rugby ....!!!!!...One year they took the Brakpan first team ....and they played against a Rest of Eastern Transvaal..selection.....( yes i know it was long ago ).......and Brakpan gave them the hiding of their lives ...!!!.......Long live the Brakpanites ...!!!lol..!

Yeah I'm I Primrose, there are nice parts but avoid CBD and it's near the huge Makausi township where even the cops won't go inside. Both sides of Rietfontein Road are nasty - drunks, druggies, it's bad. I once drove down and a woman just jumped into the road and freaked out, probably on drugs but looked possessed.

Very true. My mother lives in Wolmer. I live in CT but go to visit in Dec. The best is to join them in the front garden and watch whats happening and who walks by. My 2 brothers and their wives and children lives with my mother. Big family. My brother is hilarious as he grew up there. They know everything about everybody. All the neighborhood know my mother and call her Tannie Ralie. They take turns to come by and each one skinner (gossip) about the other. 😂

@@maurchesnyman3955 haha you have to introduce me to them, thats the typical image I get if I think of that area, not saying they bad, but the gossip and borrowing of sugar is what I first think of and thats a lekker vibe to have! And those people always has about 100 friends staying literally within 50meters 😅💪

As a child I used to visit my grandparents there - it was a lovely little town. Apparently it has gone to hel in a handbasket in the last 40 yrs. Haven't been there since.

I grew up there. It was great. Live in the Cape now. Went back there about 10 years ago for a funeral. The poverty and delapidation was astounding 🥺

I spent most of my high school years in Brakpan. My family had a house on the one side of the railway which had a high school, then later we moved to the other side of the railway which had another high school. The best thing I remember was the English church across the road from our 1st house in Brakpan. There were the first Americans I ever met. The pianist was a lady from Texas. That time the accent was a bit hard to understand. The church was where I met the best girl I ever knew but lost when I ran away from home. 1994. Brakpan will always be in my heart. Maybe one day I will go back.
