Your guys are exceptional. Really enjoy how you project the country. The media in South Africa is owned by white owned multinationals whose sole purpose is to discourage investors from coming to the country while they continue milking the country of all its resources. the reason why many malls & shops close early is not because of crime, but rather because many of the workers live outside the cites or far away from the workplace & have to travel long distances to get home. it's the one of those still remaining legacies of the 'apartheid spatial development' where black people/working class were "bussed in & bussed out" of the city to townships after work and it's one of the reasons why you'll now see a lot of these 'informal settlements(shacks)' near developed areas which are filled with the people who work in the city because it's much more cheaper to live there than to travel 1 or 2 hours everyday to work from the townships.

We do indeed know everything about all your struggles and triumphs, past and present. We have also had many of your superstars perform here to sold out stadiums. You might be aware maybe that Chris Brown tickets sold out in no time, despite huge noise from foreign NGO-led woman’s rights groups. Back in the 80s or 90s our national broadcaster showed the Roots series on TV. We could relate, even though our colonisers had not been as brutal, but it showed us just how long these people have been doing this to us as a people. We cried for you during the Tr-ump presidency when so many were being wantonly unalived, even had a march. Black Americans looked at me funny in the Us when I dared to suggest that they would be better off if there was a way to move them to my country. I soon understood that their notion of an African person is based on the Nigerians who are the Africans they encounter the most in the US. Anyway, glad you’re enjoying or enjoyed your time here. We have similar problems. As America goes so goes South Africa, because our countries are managed by the same global oligarchs. We just have population numbers on our side, and our spirit of ubuntu and resilience.
@BongieBala25 күн бұрын
South Africans and African Americans share a deep and painful history of slavery and oppression. We have both faced discrimination, inequality, and injustice at the hands of our oppressors. Despite the hardships we have endured, we understand each other's pain and struggles, and we stand in solidarity with one another. We have experienced being looked down upon by immigrants who come to our countries and take away our rights by accepting below minimum wages. This puts us in a position where we cannot stand our ground and demand equal pay for the work that we do. However, we remain resilient and determined to fight for our rights and to demand fair treatment. One thing that unites us is our love for dancing and music. We find solace and joy in our cultural expressions, and it brings us together as a community. We are welcoming people who believe in unity and standing together in solidarity. Despite the challenges we have faced, we have the strength to overcome and rise above the injustices that have been inflicted upon us. Let us continue to support one another, to stand up for our rights, and to work towards a more just and equitable society for all. Together, we can create a better future for ourselves and for future generations.

Don't tell lies just because you came to Africa with a preconceived notion. It’s also due to the previous regime town planning. Black people were placed far from economic hubs. Townships were meant to be dormitories/ concentration camps. Hence they were placed far from city centres. An effort to exclude and invisiblize bkack people. Similar to what Argentina and Australia did to their black people. Our leaders fought back! The Sobukwes, the Or Tambos, the Steve Biko’s, hence they were unalived quickly.

8:01, I think you landed in Canada, the plane just missed the airport by a few thousands miles... And also in Quebec, malls and stores close early, except thursday and friday, they close at 5pm...

That's so interesting especially in a capitalist country. Down in Cape Town they're open till 9. I wonder what it's like throughout the rest of the country...

Jozi is definitely a MELANATED PROUDLY BLACK city, Cape Town has a weird vibe (albeit Beautiful). Most proudly black individuals from across the globe resonate with Jozi

You're wrong, businesses close at 6-7pm early because workers needed to get back to their homes in which were traditionally in townships (i.e. far away from the CBD because of apartheid) and they were dependent on public transport or taxis.

Thanks for the insight. Learned something new. Wasn’t our experience in CPT and was surprised at closing times in a such a large metropolitan city.

It's not just the media that put South Africa in a bad light. A lot of South Africans are so self critical that they end up spooking foreigners. Although our country has it's problems(many of them), we play a huge part in convincing the world that it is a hell hole that people should avoid. I've had African people who have never set foot in South Africa telling me howhorrific my country is, based on what they have been told, by South Africans. And we also do very little to highlight what's great about our prople and home. I'm always watching videos of Western black people who come here and are so taken aback
