The most interesting thing I find about John is he has stuck with the open/different tunings most of his career. I messed with open tunings for a while but always went back to standard. Open tunings do add a nice touch/change.

Anyone who knows how to play this song on guitar knows what a hack playing this specific song is. So many people cheering and going woo but the secret to the song is the open tuning.... As with most of their biggest songs. This is a ridiculously simple song to play. No cord in the entire song requires more than two fingers to play..... Half the time you could get away with open strum in one of the chords you don't even need to really play and it still sounds great. This is a very fun song to play because it makes you feel like a real Rockstar because it's incredibly easy for any beginner, even the most beginner to play.
