Liz thank you so much for the tutorials. I have been sewing for years but always thought bra making would be far too complex. Your videos are so clear with breaking down every step. I’ve taken the plunge with a bra kit and just finished my first black beauty. It’s been such a pleasure to sew it, I’m looking forward to making another. I really love that you have more videos on making alterations to this pattern and I plan to follow along with those next.

The best advice I can give is never go into a project wanting a perfect result, rather you should aim to "learn something", that way even if it isn't perfect it still served a purpose

Hi Liz. I love watching your tutorials on bras and pants, which are so beautiful but I’ve not had the confidence to have a go yet. I wanted to find out if there’s a pattern for making a simple panty for a inconvenient female, which I’m light. I have looked at the bought ones which are so bulky. So I thought I would have a go at making my own. Much appreciated 🐶

Hi Liz, i just love your videos, you have inspired me to give lingerie sewing a go. I am working on the Black beauty bra right now, i am using a sheer tricot as my lining fabric, and stretch lace as the fashion fabric, but the seams on the bridge just rip out of the tricot, any suggestions?

If the difference between your band size and the full cup size is 3.5 inches, do you make the C cup or the D cup?

I’d probably start D. You can always pinch out if it’s too big

Can you do a Maya bra?
@jbloom19815 жыл бұрын
When you're taking the breast and band measurements are you taking those from your best fitting bra or without a bra? I'm tired of buying bras as $65 on sale when they never totally fit properly. Excited to try making my own bras, but feeling extremely intimidated at the same time.
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
The underbust can be without a bra but the full bust measurement you should have one on ( that's not padded)
@skraterfield5 жыл бұрын
Curious about widening the back band.. What caused you to make such a change? did you do a test bra and not like the way it felt?
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
Yep, the first one I sewed up as the pattern is drafted, I personally don't like skinny back bands as that means more likelihood for "fluff" to show on your back (or under your clothes). I also prefer a U-strap attachment so If i was going to make that change anyway I thought I might as well just redraft the whole back piece.
@charlenefiumara3335 жыл бұрын
Hi, I've been inspired to make this bra. I notices there is a rounded area on the altered back band at the top. What is that and how much is rounded out?
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
I like to attache my straps in a U-back configuration instead of a T.... when I am cutting out my pattern pieces i just scoop a little bit out so I can keep track of what is the top of the band and then when it comes time to attach the straps i'll cut it down to exactly the height i need it which is shown in video 4 of this series: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pYu5kqyJpJ2qnZI

Do you prewash the fabric and findings? Or only fabric?
@LizSews4 жыл бұрын
I don't think I have ever pre-wash anything for bras. The fabrics are all synthetic and I hand wash and line dry my bras so there ins't a lot of opportunity or shrinkage
@leahabday37324 жыл бұрын
@@LizSews awesome, thank you! I am so used to making clothes that ate destroyed without a prewash! I got my kits in the mail today and don't want to screw them up 😂
@charlenefiumara3335 жыл бұрын
Hi, your pieces are bigger than the pattern. What alterations did you make and what size elastic did you use for your band?
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
I discuss most of my alterations at 5:39 in the video. I am using 3/4" elastic for the bottom band. For my size it is drafted for 1/2" so all I did was increase the Seam Allowance an extra 1/4" on the bottom to accommodate the wider elastic. The larger size set of the pattern is already drafted to use the wider elastic.

I really want to start making bras, would this one be too difficult to make as a first bra. I have watched all of your bra tutorials and you explain things so clearly that I feel like I could. I have been sewing all my life and made all sorts of stuff. Also, do you think I can buy kits for this bra and start having a bra components stash?

This would be a great first bra, Besides my tutorial Erin's directions are very well written, she also sells kits for this pattern if you want to have a stash.

Hi Liz - which size for your microtex needles?
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
I use "SCHMETZ Microtex (Sharp) (130/705 H-M) Sewing Machine Needles - Size 90/14" but it does take some trial and error to find what works best with your own machine- they are like snowflakes and everyone's machine likes something different!

If you are sewing it for yourself - why round up the band size to an even number?
@LizSews5 жыл бұрын
I suppose you *could* but patterns only come in even numbers. The band has negative ease ( ie. a 34 band isn't going to sew up 34"). Its easier to just round up in the beginning and trim some off the back band at the end before the hook and eyes if nesseseary
