I waited to get the black beauty for a long time because i knew i was going to need alterations. I finally contacted Erin and got the ball park size to start from. I needed to increase my band to 46, and i didnt know until my 3rd but i needed every alteration you did here!! Now I've got a beauty that fits as well as my Porcelynne Eve's, and am getting so confident about design alterations. Thanks, Liz!!

this helps me to realize that when i''m ready to make my bras, i can adjust each cup to fit each breast. the right one is bigger than the left (not significantly, but enough), so i'm always either a little empty, or busting out, depending on which cup size i go with i commercial bras. thank you!

I've been putting off making this bra because I'm so unfamiliar with the wire bras, I think this has helped me to decide to just go for it! I have a similar breast size, where I'm a double DD wire with a C- cup breast. So now I think I can definitely make the changes and put in those wires! thank you so much for always giving us so much good content!

THANK YOU!! I love this pattern but I have issues with the power bar digging in and creating a disastrous side boob situation, while the rest fits almost perfectly. And now I know how to try and fix it!! (I’ve only made two bras in my life so far and the only reason they look as good as they do - power bar digging aside - is thanks to your fantastic tutorials.

Hi! Thank you so much for your videos. You inspired me so much after a few of your beginner tutorials and your Maya bra that I bought the Black beauty pattern from Emerald Erin. I made it, but it is a total fail. Is this normal? I must say I learnt out of the experience but the cup for instance does not fit me. I will try the Maya bra next as I like the way you divided it into 3 parts and that there is no elastic on the top cup part(mine is going open). I love the whole experience.

I have this pattern and the appex is a bit too low for me- my nipple is laying on the upper cup piece. I am wondering whats the best thing to do in that case? (Cause extanding the bottom cup makes a more pointy profile)?
@hotironmom3 жыл бұрын
I'm not entirely sure why you made the upper cup alteration for the neckline at the underarm rather than at the neckline edge. I would have thought that you'd take a wedge out at the other end of that underarm seam.

I see on your new powerbar you have marked the DOGS the completly different direction. Is there a reason for this?
@millie76422 жыл бұрын
do you know how to avoid side boob from the powerbar? Should i make the whole powerbar bigger or extend the legnth of it so it doesnt cut in?
@purpleicicles2 жыл бұрын
I have a similar issue, but I think it's not so much a powerbar issue as the cup isn't covering/supporting enough there... I suppose the way to tell is to remove the powerbar and see if the problem persists?

How to buy a bra pattern
@marybethrutledge3513 жыл бұрын
I made this bra last year to Erin's measuring specs. The band itself fit all around comfortably, the power bar dug into my bottom cup so your adjustment idea will be helpful on my next one. My issue is the bra cup fits side to side, flush with my body but the tissue doesn't settle into the bottom cup fully (I have about a half inch empty right at the center base.) The band rolls under as I wear it. As a newbie, I have no idea where to go about making adjustments. Any advice would be helpful.
@jenniferrich52923 жыл бұрын
I had the same fit issue with the Ruby bra pattern, and I found out that my underwire was too small.I used the same cup with a wider underwire and the fit is right. Don’t know if this will help you🤷🏻♀️
@marybethrutledge3513 жыл бұрын
@@jenniferrich5292 thank you so much for the idea Jennifer! I did try a bigger wire initially but the bigger wires go up into my armpit, jab my breasts in the center (no real space in between mine,) & still didn't allow the tissue to fall. I think I'm more straight across than any of the wires (they all are too curved.) This pattern on the side already touches in my armpit area to clue you to how tiny framed I am. Although I'm very tall, I have the upper torso of a petite with a short upper chest, short waist, narrow shoulders, narrow lower rib cage & wide upper back with large bust so I know any combo of that is making bra fitting an ordeal anyway (my measurements are 32 under bust, 38 high bust & 42-43 full bust depending on the day😆🤣🤣 so what size am I? Lol) You are probably wishing you hadn't tried to help me now huh? 🤣 I am taking the Great Bra Sewing Bee in August so maybe I'll find my answers there.

@@marybethrutledge351 -Îm not sure if you look at the bra maker supply from Bev Johnston. She has quite a few great patterns and the way she calculate her cup size is very different than most of the other place. I did the black beauty and 3 other bras and never was able to get a great fit to the band, cut or wire. I bit the bullet and got Bev Johnson after looking at her course on crafsty and now i got a band that fit a cup that i can chance the style and wires that feel like no other bra fitted me. Have a look you may find what you need to your body.
@marybethrutledge3513 жыл бұрын
@@helenv2906 oooh! I will look at her patterns and give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.
@splibragirl3 жыл бұрын
@@marybethrutledge351 You can also cut the wire under your armpit area to shorten it if it gives the bra a better spread across your underbust area. Liz has a video somewhere of the stuff she uses to dip the cut wires to put a soft end back onto it. Good luck all.

Can I ask a really dumb beginner question? When you're making the toile to get the fit right, can you use muslin?
@bumblebobbins72843 жыл бұрын
It's not a dumb question at all! It's important to use a fabric that has similar properties to what you'd use for your finished bra when making a toile. This is because using another kind of fabric could make the garment sit differently and with bras even minimal stretch variation can change the fit dramatically. Personally I like lace bras lined with sheer cup lining, but since lace can be expensive I just buy a lot of sheer cup lining for making mockups/toiles since that is the structured fabric that determines how the bra fits. I use just the lining fabric until I think the pattern is "good enough" to be wearable and then I start using lace as well since I know it won't be wasted. I hope this was helpful, sorry for such a long reply!
@pretedesigns3 жыл бұрын
@@bumblebobbins7284 Thank you so much! I was strictly thinking about the prohibitive cost of using lace if I need a lot of adjustments the first time I make a pattern but that makes sense to just use the cup lining for the fitting. That will save me a lot of money.
@carrieaceae12333 жыл бұрын
Does anyone have any advice on how to alter this pattern for more projection? I went up a full cup size from where I measured, and my gore still is not laying flat. I made a toile and added about an inch and a half to the cup with spread darts, but the shape was super pointy! Do you think I could add extra room with spread darts, then round the crown? Or would that be taking away the space I created with the darts?
@whydidthetilda3 жыл бұрын
What happens if you go up another cup? It's easier imo to go down from a too large cup than go up from a too small one

But how does one measure drooping, pendulous breasts. I want to make a bra for someone who only THINKS they're a GG because she can't really measure them 🤷🏾♀️
@purpleicicles2 жыл бұрын
Hold 'em up in the position you want them to end up!! Alternatively, wear a well-fitting non-padded bra to conduct the measurements 😊
