Absolutely loved this conversation! A serious topic that was insightful without being preachy. I especially loved the part about women having the freedom to do and wear whatever makes them feel comfortable and beautiful and not having that define who we are and how we get treated. Thanks ladies and the great host!

I am grateful for so many topics discussed in this show. Especially the hair part. Let us do whatever makes us happy because we are way more than just our hair. I said this before, the whole "you are blacker with natural hair" sharade is so old and petty.
@palesamogorosi8939

But it is true, the same way a white person would look less authentic with an afro on or dreadlocks. It's not slander, but just honesty. Yes people have freedom to wear weaves and wigs, but nothing beats natural hair. Especially for black people, it's beautiful to see those who pride themselves in embracing their unique hair rather than following trends.

@@palesamogorosi8939 so in your mind,black people should only date blacks in order not to be labelled 'self hating'? I would never put myself through such a nonsense. We should date who we feel attracted to,those who love us,no matter whst they look like. We should really wear our hair the way we choose and let that thing go,whatever it is that we feel we need to hold on to. We don't. Not to mention,a lot of people,especially black me ,are brainwashed to view straight hair and light skin as beautiful and better. So naturally, most women,especially black women,who choose to date only black men,will succumb to looking the way they want them to look. I personally feel attracted to men of all races and wear my 4c hair relaxed,because the maintenance is easier and styling also.

I've always hated that "Tswang, tswang, tswang, leboneng, ngwana o tshwana le le Coloured...". Then being called umnyamane. 😠 I could sense it has colourist undertones. It's so sad how we tend to overlook these small things that can actually affect people psychologically. It's actually subconscious so we don't notice how this is conditioning us.

@palesamogorosi8939
@palesamogorosi8939 2 жыл бұрын
@@ThinkingOutLoud597 Hi Oneka, of course. It goes like this: • Tswang, tswang, tswang (come out, come out, come out) • Leboneng (and see) • Ngwana o tshwana le le Coloured (the child/bride looks like a Coloured person) So "Coloured" is a racial group in South Africa that is known as mixed-race or multiracial in other countries. They are classified as Coloured people due to their mixed ancestry of indigenous Africans and Dutch/English/Asian settlers. Now in this song, this denotes that the bride looks like a mixed-race or ambiguous woman whom we know references to the fair skin complexion which is a common phenotype of a Coloured person, despite also having dark skinned ones sometimes. In essence the song suggests that the bride is beautiful and therefore looks like a Coloured woman. Coloured/light skin = beautiful. I think you get the idea I'm trying to explain. Why can't they just say the bride is beautiful? And end it there. But I've also heard other versions of the song whereby they say: • ngwana o tshwana le dinaledi (the child/bride looks like stars) * naledi = star ; dinaledi = stars So I prefer this one because they compare the beauty of the woman to stars, rather than pedestalize light skin as the premise of the aforementioned song is of colourist beauty standards. It's even sad that this is done by Black people to fellow Black people. I'm sorry for the lengthy explanation though. Hope this helped.

@@zandile I can't think of one at the drop of the hat, but I feel like it is rather ridiculous for someone to box themselves unless the reasons would be that they are not multilingual then I'd understand. Meanwhile I have come across many Sotho actors/actresses master roles in other languages which is beautiful because at the end of the day this is acting and nothing personal. Now that I think about it, you may be right. I think this is odd honestly that we play roles along tribal lines. Wow.

They really did. I do not wish to be that kind of parent. I've seen how much inferiority complex is instilled in African children by parents due to their internalized racism, and it's disappointing. I noticed this so many times in my family. From giving their children English names or to even forcing them to know English more than their own native languages. Now it's even the hair. No sense of pride whatsoever. Some even make kids wear wigs. Teach your children that their hair is not inferior or less beautiful. They need to know their identity from inside and out. I'll gladly comb the afro and use the organic afro hair products on my children. No chemicals.
