There is also an argument that black cabs are far safer than private hire for women, black cabs are easily identifiable, you know a black cab when you see it. Private hire vehicles come in all shapes and colours and often women don't know if they're actually getting in a taxi, spending their entire journey in fear of being abducted and worse.

TFL are now allowing Drivers who cannot speak English to be licenced as a private Hire Driver in London The mind boggles . They are even able to sit a test where they have the answers in a book in front of them during the exam and TFL feel that is safe

It was not long ago that Uber where a not fit and proper to run a business according to TFL. Then they got the licence to run the ferry services to run ferry's on the Thames, now they are going to run in the bus lanes, I wonder why? Can't possibly be money in brown envelopes?

I’m a taxi driver private hire and in our district all private hire and Hackney cars can use bus lanes and the world still turns the only difference in licencing between black cabs and PH cars is the knowledge everything else is the same same checks everything

@@paulies5407 who cares with PH the customer either tells them they want a wheelchair car or push a button on the app 99% of the country are not in wheelchairs my main issue is that black cabs in London can use bus lanes but PH can’t we all pay to the local authorities for our licences in my district (not London ) I can drive in all bus lanes and I’m PH but when I get into my own capital I can’t and nobody gives a rats arse if your car is electric black cabs are owned by a Chinese company so your just putting money in the CCCP pocket

Some black cab drivers charges double the prices from the airport, absolutely rip off, they have a display of set price list but they don't give the shit about following it. Someone needs to investigate this daylight high robbery before more tourists like me changes their minds about visiting the UK again

Absolute disgrace that the knowledge could be scrapped. My grandfather was a black cab driver and he knew everything about the sites about London too. This is all destroy the cab industry for crap, unreliable, foreign Uber drivers who can’t speak English.

Why not let black cab complete on the size of Uber Uber is a American company that operates in the UK but black cabs only seam to operate in the UK Let black cabs compete Think about it which company is gonna have better service for customers and provide more income for it's own country and provide better employment a company thats only allowed to operate in one country and collect revenue from that country or a company that's allowed to operate allover the world and collect money from more than one country.

4 years of tests. Do they get a test for taking folk the wrong (longer) route? Happens everywhere but for a license to be so lauded surely we should expect honesty? Or is there no honourable part of the license?

Get rid of taxi lanes completely, these are lanes paid for by tax payers, not taxi drivers specifically so they should be there for all to use or only buses and I only think buses because they slow traffic, dedicated lanes for buses should keep general traffic moving better. Uber can use taxi/bus lanes if they pay for access.

I don’t think your average Uber driver is relying solely on a sat nav are you telling me someone driving round a city for 50 hours per week doesn’t start to Learn where things are black cabs are uncomfortable over priced and not as easy to come by Uber is superior in my opinion

Cabbies are robbing and decide their prices off the top of their head. Been conned and not dropped off properly by cabbies. Ubers are monitored, rated and tracked. The free market will always choose the better service
