Black Canyon Freeway - Interstate 17 - Phoenix, Arizona - March 2022

Drivelapse video following the Black Canyon Freeway, Interstate 17 southerly from Loop 303 south around the western edge of Downtown Phoenix, around the Durango Curve back to Interstate 10 and then follows the Superstition Freeway easterly to Arizona Highway 24 in the East Valley.

Tbh, I really like Phoenix's freeway network, as they are very wide & barely never congested outside rush-hours periods. Definitely a city that I'd like to visit someday. Compared with Montreal, traffic is still very bad, even outside rush-hours periods. Also, in the USA last week, there were some very difficult weather conditions, Effectively, time was very violent with over 100 tornadoes confirmed, mostly throught the great plains,. This includes notably, Nebraska, Iowa & Oklahoma to name some examples. This destroyed, sometimes completely, several Houses & many other buildings. 5 peoples also died & several other got injured.

Montreal has bad traffic. Phoenix has a few locations that are prone to chronic congestion. I-10 between SR-51 and I-17 is often pretty chronically congested, as is the area around the Broadway Curve.

I'm in Fort Worth. If storms had gone up over the DFW area as they had over south-central Oklahoma (Marietta, Sulphur, etc.) that night, we could have had a bad tornado outbreak here. I stayed up all night because it kept looking as if storms were trying to form over DFW, but they fortunately did not.

3:17 That bridge under construction now carries the Phoenix Valley Metro Light Rail NW Extension to Metrocenter Mall which opened on January 27, 2024. 12:27 AZ-24 has since been extended by a few miles to Ironwood Road (although the future grade separated interchanges for now are intersections with traffic lights)

I think the AZ-24 construction was completed pretty shortly after this video was recorded, if memory serves me correctly. Thanks for the comment.

Great drive! Have you heard New York City will be having a congestion pricing starting on June 30, 2024, where you enter the city, you'll be charged for entering the city. The price depends on vehicle type (with some exceptions) and time of the day whether you have E-ZPass (for discounts) or not. What do you think?

I went to London, England a few years ago, and their congestion pricing scheme there made for an improved pedestrian experience when walking around the city. Like anything there are advantages and disadvantages for any plan, and this for NYC will be no different.
