Only yesterday I saw a pure black cat in someone's yard. I'm just hoping he's well cared for and does not get hit by a car. We have a stray black cat that comes around the house once in a while. Our grey & white tabby, who was once an outdoor cat, gets quite excited when he thinks his territory is begin invaded. The cat's totally wild and unapproachable. About 5 summers ago a pure black cat hung around our house all summer. We fed it, but could never get more than 5 feet away. One day he disappeared and was never seen again. 😞

@@1940limited are there any rescue groups in your area who can TNR the kitties?
@1940limited3 жыл бұрын
@@nicooliver6019 Yes, there are some people who do TNR. My wife and I have, too. Our present stray black cat only comes around once every few months, if that. I have no idea where he comes from but I think he's totally wild. You can't get within 50 feet of him or her.

I love black cats! Fell in love with one before I had my own place unfortunately. I do agree that coat color seems to correlate with their personality. My sister has a mama and daughter cat. I have two kittens from the mama cat and they each look like either the mama or daughter cat and their personalities really correspond down to how vocal they are, how food motivated and how assertive etc it’s very interesting

I had two great black cats. One was a mix and he was very fun. I had a black Persian who was a very sweet and handsome guy. I agree that black cats are special. I volunteer at a cat shelter and we do see a lot of black kitties and sometimes they are overlooked. One black and white girl was a favorite for me. She stayed with the shelter and passed away shortly after her first birthday. She was stunning and I fell in love with her. She had a teardrop on her nose and I would sing special sings to her. I love to sing to all of our sweet kitties.

Hi Laura, you sound like a wonderful person, singing to the cats! I bet they adore you, and that you make their time at the shelter so much happier. My husband's old cat Vincent was a long haired black cat, we got him at a river marina when we were there canoeing on one of our first dates. That was about 17 years ago. Vincent was a tiny kitten, mewing his little heart out, all alone at this remote place, and we took him home. He was with us until he died of liver failure at age 14.

@@KittenSchool We adopted an orange tabby from a box of free kittens in a hobby shop. He was about 4 weeks old when we got him. We had him 17-1/2 years until he died from kidney failure.

Hello dear friend: Two yrs ago, I adopted a black kitten from a shelter and she has been an absolute delight. We didn't get her because she was black but because she touched our hearts when we saw her and now, she looks like a mini black panther. If I had more money in my budget to care for one or two more, I would adopt them. Love to you and have a very blessed day!🇺🇸😊😻

Hi Patricia Ann! Your kitty sounds wonderful. I love the way black cats look like mini panthers, too. She's lucky to have such a loving mom. Thanks for the comment!

We have tons of kittens and can’t find homes for them with this Covid thing going on. Can you recommend a place that can help us adopt out these sweet hand fed darlings. Also can you recommend a place to get cat food cheep or free? Thanks
@KittenSchool3 жыл бұрын
Hi Steven! When adopting kittens, the internet is your best friend. You can use free sites like Facebook and Petfinder to help people looking in your area see your kittens. Take the BEST photos you can - lots of close ups of their sweet faces, posed in baskets, looking super adorable. Write descriptions of their personalities and back stories (this kitten was found soaking wet in a drain storm, etc, etc). You want to appeal to people's desire to rescue! Offer to let people "video chat" over the phone with kittens if they are nervous about meeting in person. (we call this virtual adoption and it's worked well for us). As for free food, go to all of your area grocery stores and talk to the manager. Tell them you are a local cat rescue and see if they can set aside and unsellable cat food (torn bags, dented cans, etc). You'd be surprised at how many will. My grocery store now even gives me things like paper towels and cleaning supplies that are not suitable to sell! BE PERSISTENT, but always polite. Make it easy for them to help you, as in, offer to stop by the store a couple times a week to see if there's anything so they don't have to store it for you. I really hope this helps, and I know it can be frustrating when you can't find homes. Also try reaching out to your local rescues if you have them, offer to foster in exchange for their help with finding homes and medical care. It's hard to do this alone...don;t be afraid to ask for help! GOOD LUCK and sending you lots of good purrr vibes.

The satanic myths and superstitions have not mostly faded away. I'm glad you screen your adopters. Of course apathy, neglect and abuse of cats is important to focus on but I think it is right at this time to focus on what a depraved person might do to a cat of any color because research has shown that any color cat can be in danger around this time. It isn't just people seeking to sacrifice a cat that are only ones to watch out for. Now it is anyone who wants to abuse a cat at this time of year that we have to watch out for. One of the reasons I've chosen, for several years now, to not celebrate Halloween is that I want to keep away from anything superstitious. I love all cat colors and used to be partial to black cats, but my favorite pattern is Calico.

My black cat Susi is the sweetest and cuddliest girl! I wanted to adopt two kittens because I didn't want them to be alone while I was out of the house. I saw Lacy (a Tuxi who looks JUST like Uni here on KZbin (kzbin.info/door/eMfcH-8lS5oWQzxg1MZr-w)) first and then I realized that Lacy had a sister and so I decided to adopt them together. Despite Lacy being the one that prompted my adoption, Susi has become my my little (external) heart. Susi was the first to warm up to me while Lacy is still bit standoffish. All of that said, I do love them both.

Oh! Caroline, and then there was Blacky, a Black Tuxedo, with asymmetrical funny markings, and he was my ONLY Feral cat that became a constant outdoor companion. Some Ferals become Door Cats, you know, waiting at the door, but he was more than that. He would follow me around. I learned to not put food down for him and walk away, because he would walk away from the Food to stay with me. I loved that cat. I thought we bonded because when he was still a kitten, at about 12 weeks, I went to do a Snatch Grab Catch so I could take him to the Vets and get him Fixed, but, I didn't get a solid grip and he turned his head in and bit my thumb. Well, the way I learned is just drop the cat if a catch goes bad and PRETEND nothing happened. Never yell ouch or get mad. But, yeah, if you pretend nothing happened, then the cats get a little confused and then they begin to wonder if anything happened. Well, I think that Blacky tasted blood and I THINK that Domestic Cats have evolved to REGRET biting Humans, and he sure did regret it. It was like we Bonded over the Bite, and I couldn't shake him after that. The next time I picked him up, he let me. Yeah, I loved that thing.... but then I suppose kids shot him for fun, or he got shot for a Bounty on Feral Cats. One of Life's little heart breaks....

Hi Scott, I'm so sorry about Blacky. I hope he didn't have a violent end, but sometimes we never know, right? I had a big black cat named Blacks who just showed up on my door (years ago) and walked right in the house like he owned it. I got him fixed and he became my cat...sort of. He did his own thing, came and went, guarded the neighborhood so passionately that some other people on the street didn't like him. He hung around for a few years and then one day was just gone. I still think about him. He was really affectionate but very much an independent contractor, you know?

I love black cats as well! In my opinion, everyone wants a gorgeous, white cat and such cats have no shortage of affection. But black cats tend to appreciate affection more, especially when many do not want to approach them or dislike them. I got an outdoor female black cat with one messed up eye. She is nearly 3 and has always been skittish but these days she is getting friendlier as I feed her. She needs to be fixed though as she gets pregnant frequently and has kittens to take care of...

Some shelters will not adopt out black cats around Halloween out of fear of them being bused. I love black cats. We've only had two in our long career of cat ownership, but they were among the nicest ones we ever had. I'd have a black cat in a heartbeat if given the chance. I also love pure white cats but have never been able to find one. A video from Flatbush Cats shows an entire family of black cats, but one has a white tip on his tail. It's so cute.
