I can’t listen to this track without physically breaking down. After communication is exhausted, the last thing you can do is physically stop someone from leaving..but their spirit flies away anyway.. it “rose out through the ceiling” Blaming myself, I’ll “turn my face and hide in shame.” She’ll wrap defeated me up in her undershirt and “pray for the pain to leave”.. she can’t be both the cause and solution to the pain. The last thing you can do is pray when you come to a grim recognition.. that you’re powerless to change a thing. Desperate, all you can do is pray. Being human is a fucking

the album's best song hands down. I was convinced Basketball Shoes would become my fav BC, NR song but they fucked it up (both lyrically and musically)
@linxer10242 жыл бұрын
I know this opinion isn't very popular right now, but I also found Basketball Shoes pretty hard to enjoy and honestly consider it to be the weakest of the album (for me at least), but I wondered what you meant by, "they fucked it up (Both lyrically and musically)" Is there a different version that's better on youtube or somewhere else?
@yawbyss9812 жыл бұрын
I completely disagree, the new version of basketball shoes’s more abstract lyrics are way more intelligent and beautiful. Also, the more abstract lyrics match the arrangement way more, because it’s not a very raw song. And I can not see how the arrangement was ruined, every little instrument in that song continually builds the tension so subtly, until the guitars come in and create pure catharsis. To me, the only reason that people don’t like the album version over the live version is because they’ve heard the live version more, and therefore got used to it. I barely listened to the live version because I didn’t want to ruin the album version, and it was my favorite song on the album because of that.
@linxer10242 жыл бұрын
@@yawbyss981 Thanks for your perspective! Since my comment, I found the live performance that they'd done at Queen Elizebeth Hall and really enjoyed it. I know you said that this song isn't really a "raw" song, but I prefer that kinda sound to the (Cleaner?) studio version, I honestly can't get over Isaac's shakier and bigger vocal delivery as I think it really helps escalate the narrative storytelling and instruments throughout the song (Also I kinda just like the louder instrumental sound in general). My opinion has changed a lot about Basketball Shoes and I'm starting to see the appeal of it more and more, and although I think the original comment by Fren is a little dramatic, the live performance really won me over more than the studio version ever could. I don't think you should write off people who prefer the live over the studio just because "They got used to it", because people (Me included) genuinely just enjoy the live better (and maybe you could give it another chance).
@yawbyss9812 жыл бұрын
@@linxer1024 Don’t get me wrong, I still love the live version, and I appreciate your perspective too. I can see where you’re coming from with the volume aspect, the album version would probably be better if they just brought out Issac’s screams over the instrumentals. I still significantly prefer the studio lyrics though, as I think they do a way better job of summing up the album and even Issac’s legacy as a whole (one of the greatest lyricist of our time I’d say. Maybe even if all time.) I can get why people like the live arrangement more, even if I don’t understand why they prefer the old lyrics.Of course I will still prefer the studio version’s arrangement, but the live version is an amazing display of the band’s power as well.
