You two were the right people to have this convo! I hate it when I hear people say, for example an artist like Stormzy has sold out when he sings, but these times he’s singing inspiring lyrics or saying something positive. Black culture isn’t just about drill and gang lyrics. Black culture is far more diverse than that.

As someone born in the UK and who's parents are from JA and St. Lucia I relate to this so much. As much as I know about Jamaican and St. Lucia culture, I've never been seen as Jamaican or St. Lucian when I go there. And over here in England, some white people are quick to tell you you're not English. It's like I'm a mix between three cultures I'm not completely accepted in.

Welcome to the wonderful world of being mixed race. We always look at it in terms of being mixed of 2 skin tones. But it can culturally too. Too English to be African/Carribbean to Black to be English.

Imagine this but being half British and half Jamaican for example and not being seen or accepted by both groups. This is why I’m vehemently against interracial marriages.

This was such a great conversation! 👏🏾👏🏾Nice one Chuckie for mentioning Cat Burns. She’s a POP artist doing big things. Opening for Ed Sheeran in the U.K. and now his world tour and has a song with Sam Smith. But because she’s a black artist not doing the typical genres she barely gets acknowledged.

It's really hard because at every stage of life and aspect, there are Ls Black ppl are gonna take however where we could fill in the gaps, we don't because we internalise racism or we ain't got the capacity at the time etc. But I still think we could if we had a strong community, and we don't. I look at documentaries all the time from the past and we are talking about the exact same things because we haven't sorted things out for time, we've tried tho icl but in terms of building something and sustaining it, yikes boi. I think that people have done amazing things tho, like Chuckie and Po (amongst many others) for example who have done alot to create space in regards to the media we consume and that is very important. I just think that we had community centres, we've had Saturday schools, we've managed cinemas etc. We need it all back now especially as we have advanced but it's like we've moved up but all this community stuff is on the floor. It is important. As a Black person, it feels like we're not allowed to have it all but "allowed" irritates me coz we can do it. But icl this waiting game is dry, 10 years for one piece of respect? I don't even want their respect, I just want us to do our thing. It's just frustrating.

‼️In regards to the music here in the states (NYC), your view is incorrect. It’s not inherent. It’s by design and the artists are being forced and coaxed into making negative music. It’s not an opinion. It’s fact. Then it influences music in other parts of the world. Then what do you think happens? The video director is correct. We have work to do people. Love. Bless.

The power of the tongue is real.. the lack of black ppl not knowing our true identity is the real why we normalise bringing bad spirits n energies...African spirituality is demonised but if you knew our ancestors spirituality you would realise how we get possessed without knowing... we get used to glorify trauma n ruin the next generations..find yourself if you are lost

Also personally I used to find it hard to make music because I always thought people would prefer to listen to a rapper talking about money clothes and everything else compared to mine and I used to try to write what others thought were cool, but I realised that I have my own story and I shouldn’t be writing for others.

I used to pump as much as I can into promo when it comes to finances and sharing but didn’t really see a return. Don’t get it twisted though I love making music. I said to my friends that my music is relatable to loads of people but the people it can be relatable to want to hear other things if that makes sense

Truth or truth of the matter?... Truth of the matter is Black Culture is an amalgamation of the many different African and Caribbean cultures. It is mainly down to The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey who made what is known as Black Culture prevalent. Due to the Harlem Renaissance which had a huge impact on other Black people in the diaspora. Ultimately however Black People isn't a true identity. We can still use it but we have to go back to our true culture if we are to be free. The Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey made it possible to help us feel Black and Proud instead of being N*gro and Proud. Which you can see Black and Proud which nowadays is Black Excellence is moor powerful than N*gro and Proud or N*gro Excellence

Murkage serving realness. Daily fail is most certainly one of the issues. Papers owned by a small group of very wealthy, strongly political people have a strong view that is definitely flavoured by their interests whereas social media is, well, more social where anyone with a phone can share their view. This can be polarised for sure, but at least it's politically/socially diverse. Hardly surprising that a paper with a majority shareholder that is a billionaire lord non dom therefore holds the views (and amplifies them to its 2 million daily readers) that it does. At least in the UK our broadcast is broadly balanced (no fox news here, though we do have gb news owned by the legatum institute that pushed pro-brexit ideas) Basically, I wish people would look at who owns media and then question the 'news' a bit more based on potential ulterior motives. (Or in most cases, blatant self-serving ones!)
