In this episode of the Medicinal Herbs podcast, naturopathic clinician Angela Hywood talks with host Sara Le Brun-Blashka, MS, about the “holy herb of the Middle East” - also known as the “seed of immortality.” Black cumin seed (Nigella sativa), or just black cumin, originates from the Mediterranean region and is known for its content of terpenoids, particularly thymoquinone, and fatty acids which give rise to a plethora of health properties (01:20).

I started grinding up the seeds and taking 1 teaspoon daily for improved cholesterol and blood pressure. But I found that my mood and energy levels significantly improved as well.

I’ve been using BSO for a while now and it’s changed my life. I have ME and it’s given me much more energy when I have to go out. I was having a lot of falls and I haven’t had a single one since taking it. I’m much more confident on my feet. I have coccyx damage from a fall from a year ago and it’s really helped with that and arthritis. My breathing issues have gone and my blood sugar has regulated too!! I love it!! I have suspected mcas and it’s massively reduced inflammation especially in my face. Edit: I have just had 2 weeks off it to cycle. I became a lot more unwell with more days in bed. My inflammation considerably increased and lost my momentum.

I like to take 1 teaspoon of BSO with raw honey, twice a day. But I’m losing weight steadily without trying. I’m still at a healthy weight (23.4 on the BMI scale). I think I need to throttle back to one teaspoon of BSO per day.

@WholisticMatters Жыл бұрын
Hi Amber, our herbal expert says that clinical trials using black cumin seed have demonstrated safety at 3 grams per day when taken for up to 3-6 months. Though it generally has a very wide margin of safety, for use beyond 6 months it is always best to be monitored by a qualified healthcare practitioner. Please reach out to education@standardprocess.com for more information.

Hi there, traditionally Nigella has been used extensively as a culinary spice in various cuisines, however most studies using Nigella have used between 1-3 g of powdered seed or extract per day. You can send an email to education@standardprocess.com if you have additional questions!

There's one thing I've noticed about European content videos, when herbs has its origin from Africa you will keep the name of Africa out of y'all mouths. That very hate will cost many their souls and they don't even know it😔

I understand what you mean Kenny but let us lower the wing of kindness in the words of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and not assume malice. They may genuinely not know. I am African and I love Africa and did not know there is an African name. This can be an opportunity to educate. What is the African origin?

It's an unfortunate misappropriation of the writings of the doctors and scholars (mostly Muslim) of the time. The better way to have titled it would be "the seed of rejuvenation." I believe even the prophet Muhammad himself is quoted as saying something to the effect of: "Take use of the black seed, for it cures everything but death."

@@MrTech33 if Western is decadent, how would you call the state of the middle East? On top of that, if there's decadence, it's very coincident with the increasing Muslim presence.
