Also there's no reason the music has to sound like it's "classical" music (that genre came along *centuries* after the ancient to medieval era) Electric guitars and 80s synth music are as "accurate" for medieval movies as violins and brass.

"Even the tapestries look old and faded, why is that then? This is the medieval period, they should all look brand new!" Yep, I totally agree. Related to that subject, anyone notice that in many medieval and fantasy movies the people are taking residence in an old ruined castle? It wouldn't be fucking ruined back then like it is today. I get that some budgets would not allow people to build a set which resembles a brand new castle, but come on. It's used far too much, the old ruined castle as a sustainable fortress. I've google searched this subject to see if any discussions about it can be found online, and I've found none. It's like you're the first person who has ever considered this. I'm glad I finally found one. :D

6 years but not to late i hope, they are actually building a brand New Castle in trance, completly accurate!(Based on the knowledge we have ofcourse, if we find out 10 years from now medieval ppl liked to listen to hiphop and paint Mondriaans on their walls there would be a slight problem.) When completed it would be an amazing set location. I mean it's already there then and renting is almost always cheaper then building, especially with an interested and motivated director. Finding extra's would also be a bless: Just enroll the castle's volunteers!

I'm not big on your complaint about the lighting, simply because lighting will always receive a 'free pass' for me. Seeing an actual night shot would be exceptionally lame, because you wouldn't see anything! They have gigantic skylights specifically to light up the night to make watching night shots easier. I guess it would make sense to have the scene at day (where nearly everything of use was done anyway), except again for artistic licence, I don't mind a movie being moody. The torch point though is again true (and all the new points) are sadly true though.
@Mantis4710 жыл бұрын
I give the amount of light a free pass because of that too, you have to light up the scene in order to see something. But! Regardless of that, I also find the gratuitous amount of light sources inexcusable. The obvious spotlight on the crucifix was silly. And when the 'moonlight' is shining in two different walls, the facade is pretty obvious. That's lazy work.
@TheClassicalSauce10 жыл бұрын
There was a famous story about David Lynch filming Twin Peaks. The characters were in a forest and the D.P. had large key lights shining brightly down from the tops of the trees so you could see them clearly, supposedly to represent the moonlight, although much brighter than any moon should be. Lynch asked the D.P. where this obviously unrealistic light was coming from, to which the D.P. replied, "the same place as the music".
