I Bred Paratilapia.Pollenii (small spot variant )successfully but by COMPLETE ACCIDENT about 12 or so years ago after rescuing a "Group of approx 16 semi-Adults (on avg 4 inches for the FEMALES & between 6 & 8inch for the MALES plus a "bucket full" of half inch FRY following a FRANTIC phonecall from the OWNER of a local AQUATICS STORE/WHOLESALERS over here in the uk....A Customer had requested a small group (Back in the day when the SPECIES were 1st introduced into the EUROPEAN HOBBY) the wholesalers assumed they would be a "POPULAR SELLER" so ordered/imported a "Joblot" in to the UK??? (Must've been close to WILDCAUGHT/F1 as NOBODY was working with them at this time) well suffice to say "The Customer" let the importer/wholesaler down in a BIG WAY by no longer wanting them At ALL & the ONLY(rather"sketchy) info available to the wholesalers was "Clean, Oxygen-rich fast-flowing (Umbie water parameters) but only MATURE WATER/MATURE BIO-FILTRATION was vital to survival).......??? I received an EMERGENCY RESCUE phonecall because the MATURE FILTRATION idea had proved to be a complete DISASTER in that the wholesaler's plan to use their BIG MATURE BIO-LADEN Externals/Pumps had backfired horrendously & had in fact been pumping/circulating RAW SLUDGE into the tank they had saw fit to house the group in, but as the TANK/SUMP was in a back room of the wholesalers (thus OUT OF SIGHT/MIND) they had been forgotten about for 12 or so hours & apparently they had been in this foul-smelling/anaerobic SOUP for the whole time aaltho i suspect they had been there for significantly longer (as the BIO-LIFE within the the tank had been DEAD a good while judging by the telltale ODOUR & the rising Death Toll that i faced once i had ROCKETED the 12 miles to try to help!!!..................Anyway long/long/LONG story SHORT........7 Dead adults, Bucket of young ALL 100% fine (& were raised up to HEALTHY JUVENILES by my WIFE in a separate Tank & once i had managed to stabilize the remainder of the ADULTS in the group were happily SPAWNING with a month of being rescued???!!!???...........................(Males were unusually BRUTAL towards FEMALES whilst spawning + Parents ALL lost interest/began PREDATING on the young after about 10 days or so??? The above account is MY OWN Serendipitous experience/(Nightmarish ordeal) of BREEDING PARATILAPIA POLLENII (small spot Madagascan Cichlid)!!!....................Beware?!? hahaha Thanks for reading (Apologies for the "BRIEF" nature/meandering DIATRIBE of my account).....lol Karl Prestage

Nice polleni. How long does it take for 1" size to that?
@fishlaw1
@fishlaw1 10 жыл бұрын
Thanks. It all depend on the size of your tank and how much you feed them. Now I feed my fish only 4 times a week so they grow a lot shower then most people fish. Oh I almost forgot water changes play a big roll in how fast they grow as well. RHC 4 LIFE ! ! !

Why do they call it black nasty if it's not black? Also how large do they get I think they look like simple smaller version of of a dovii kind of with the shape
@fishlaw1
@fishlaw1 10 жыл бұрын
They are called "Black Nasty's" because of the female which has a nasty temperament and sport a beautiful black coloration all the time. Now some males are very aggressive too and maintain their black color as well but, most fade platinum white with dark speckles. Now size, males can reach 16"inches and sometimes 18"inches. Females 8"inches top's. RHC 4 LIFE ! ! !
