Picked up the 45 today with all the accessories. Spent most of my life carrying around a big strong bulletproof leather duffel (kind of like what you had at the start) for everything. Moved 7 different countries and travelled almost 70 with it. Time to retire so I can take it a bit easier with the packing now that airport security etc. are getting really rigid with their requirements. Don't mind so much that it comes without the strap. I like duffels for their packability not so much for how they carry. So being able to wear this on my back is 99% how I will use it unless it's almost empty and I use the 2 straps. Only downside for me is the 2kg weight, as most airlines now set the max total for carry-on at 8kg and you can easily pack this thing to 14-16kg without breaking a sweat. Still, the dimensions are within the universal limits for carry-on bag size and there's the compression straps if they get even more 'vegan' with the limits. Don't care so much for the laptop being on the bottom either, I am not using some pissy Macbook but a "Tankpad". Dopp kit on the 45L goes above the shoes and I won't probably ever pack shoes in these, as I wasn't born in NY. Otherwise I like how stiff it is, just hope it holds up. On their newer models they've removed all PFAS from their supply chain which I think is a real commitment to quality and the environment. My only complaint is give us the V-Straps and Boarding Kit for free.

Just got mine yesterday in 45. It’s an absolute unit and one difference is there is a compartment above the shoe well for the Dopp kit. Definitely great for one bag travel

That opening is cool how it looks to hold open. The boarding kit pocket is a great spot for a dopp kit or other storage and just carry the boarding kit or sling it

As a duffel bag, the laptop compartment is at the bottom? That might give pressure and damage the laptop.

@@JBOutside1 Honnestly it fits me great! Im around 1,82cm. All packed out it gets heavier, but very manageble since the shoulder straps are nice and wide. Ill end up using the hip belt if i have to travel fully packed i think.

@@JBOutside1, I asked BE during the KS campaign and they basically brushed it off. I still bought it keep it standing up, always in vertical or backpack mode so the dirt doesn’t get on my clothes. I also have the duffle from BS and although they implemented the shoulder straps on top (in horizontal or duffle mode) but their issue is that the hypalon material in hot climate simply melts and it looks awful. I guess you have to look at the tradeoffs and see which one you’re willing to accept. I guess another workaround is pulling out a rain cover if you’re going to rest the Dex down on ground in duffle mode.

Uh, that's a tough one and really depends on what airline and airplane you're talking about. I'd suggest starting with the stated dimensions from the airline you're traveling on and then going from there.

Black ember has a great design but both back packs I bought from them did not even last 3 months. The glue keeping the parts together is bad and the sides separated

What bag was this? They have a lifetime warranty for defects like this. Glue tearing within 3 months is absolutely unacceptable on a $500 bag.

You should look at the Boundary Supply Errant Duffel. Keeps the „dirty bottom“ away from your back in backpack use. Love mine. Also plenty of G-Hooks and Fidlocks.

@@JBOutside1 Best duffle bag ever made in my opinion was the Brown Buffalo, he no longer makes it… but that thing was bullet proof and a big dumpster. It was true minimalism without a bunch of added on trinkets. Too bad he doesn't make it anymore.
