Despite all the Ginn, well ya’ll know. I love his style. His solos are out there, and his rhythm’s are as fun to play as Iommi’s. He underrated, and he’s unquestionably the King of Punk Rock guitarist if you understand guitar at all.
@H3LLE Жыл бұрын
Iommi may be a genius at writing simple memorable riffs but the underlying structure is fairly traditional, downtuned or not. I think Ginn is on another level speaking of creative output, drive and talent at large, and i wouldn't understimate his lyrics either. It's interesting to note that both guitarists have a strong fascination with jazz though, which could be another secret ingredient that helped set their respecrive bands apart from their peers. On a side note, Ginn's second band Gone is also worth a listen, their debut album is free jazz-(post)hardcore at its finest, after BF's Family Man and The Process.. of course.

Ginn's new Black Flag was the WORST show I have ever seen live. I wanted to strangle the drummer, he had ZERO energy and hit the drums like he was scared to play them. Ginn didn't play a single inspired thing all night and at points resorted to just slapping the fretboard with both hands while muting the strings for some reason. Ron Reyes tried his best to elevate things, but his performance was utterly ruined by the shambles that was happening behind him. And I lost a critical piece of my own drum gear because security took it for "looking like a weapon" and then left before I could get it back. I shook Greg's hand after the show, because he's still the guy who got me to pick up a guitar, but it may have been the limpest handshake I have ever received. He is also the one guy who I have met in life who when I saw his expression, made me think "he smokes too much weed". The guy was so barely there, it was weird. The opposite of Rollins, who when I met him, shifted over from the other person he was talking to like Robocop, and stared right at & through me. I guess I understand why he hates weed now. Wow this comment is too long

I happened to be uninformed the Dale was really Greg, and brought up Dale becauze I realized I had never even seen what this person looks like. I mean, obviously we all know what Henry Rollins looks like, etc. But nope! Greg let me keep believing Dale was real. I think not too long after, a friend or maybe even an article in a music fanzine, informed me that it was really Greg. Oh Greg doesn’t care about “other people” playing “his” music and getting paid for it? Hilariou$
It's weird my favorite guitar player and I share a love for cats. Cat men unite! Lol

Prime example of don't smoke weed every damn day of your fucking life lol. Great guitarist and he wrote so many amazing punk songs though. Now if he'd just pay the ex members what he owes them i'd respect him.

Greg Ginn is the man!! Love his guitar playing and his attitude. Plus... anyone who hates Henry Rollins as much as I do... is A ok in my book!

I think labeling him a savant isa insult to the savants out there.

ThisIs Slammin it was meant to insult Ginn by calling him one ironically.

Man, Ginn seems pretty normal and clear headed here. I just came from watching his much more recent interview with Nardwuar, he seems so burnt out and loopy there. I wonder if he was high during the interview or he’s just really burnt out.
@chucku.farley4 жыл бұрын
99% sure he was high. I dont agree with the all the shit in this article but: consequenceofsound.net/2014/12/black-flags-ron-reyes-accuses-greg-ginn-of-rampant-drug-use-and-child-abuse/

Elmo Blatch Ron was "prime period",no doubt,and his energy onstage was perfect for the band. Mugger asked me what I thought about Henry coming in and I told him I preferred the west coast vibe that Dez nailed pretty well,for a Jersey guy.
@ottergreen81907 жыл бұрын
I think Morris was better in Circle Jerks. Personally, I think Rollins was the best singer for Black Flag.
