I met Henry in the parking lot of a radio station in Tampa in '95. My buddy and I asked if we could get an autograph. His manager tried to blow us off but Henry stopped and signed a cpl autographs for us and talked to us for a minute. Down to earth, very appreciative of his fans, full on legend!

@gyniest

They still are. It's true of me and other people I know. But there are obvious limits to that. If values conflict, or at least one party is opposed to all people who disagree, then it's unlikely a friendship will form. For example, if one person's politics are about fighting for civil rights, and another person believes that all people of that person's race, ethnicity, creed, etc. should be killed, enslaved, or just disenfranchised in some way, I seriously doubt they would become friends (it's hard to see how they could unless at least one of them drastically changed their positions).

Many of my friends have different political views than I do. It's not that difficult we just dont talk politics or if we do we keep it short. I know I am never going to change anyone's political view. As an older person I can tell you 24 cable news and social media has greatly damaged how people think and talk to one another. If you listen to one political view all day and the majority of your friends do to on social media you tend to become brainwashed. Things have certainly changed but remember politicians come and go, friends need to be kind to one another.

I saw him in college in 1987. My friend, who was using my own guitar that night, was in a local band that opened for Rollins. The guitar player for Rollins had issues with both of his guitars so he picked up mine and played most of the concert with it! I stood 3ft in front of Henry the whole show. One of those magical memories I’ll never forget.

@@johnstewart2793 Ted’s spot on with his politics. He understands that living -and living FREE under LAW & ORDER- is just a little bit more important than music and music making. He also understands the importance of the phrase: “KNOW THINE ENEMY”. They’ll eat you alive if you don’t. As has always been the case, FREEDOM must be FOUGHT FOR if it is to be preserved. In this world of power-hungry enemies who will take it from us if we aren’t willing to FIGHT to keep it, FREEDOM is PAID FOR with the BLOOD of PATRIOTS who are willing to DIE FOR IT. “LIVE FREE OR DIE!” “GIVE ME FREEDOM OR GIVE ME DEATH!” One thing is sure with Ted Nugent and all true American Patriots: you won’t just take our freedom from us.

Mean Mister Mustard I don’t think buying his music has anything with supporting his “agenda” . It would be different if you were going out and being an activist for the things he supports, but simply buying some of his albums is irrelevant to what he stands for politically. I don’t know where he stands on everything but I would guess that most of it I don’t agree with. But cat scratch fever is a kickass album so I own it, along with a few others from him. I mean if you really don’t wanna buy his music that’s fine obviously I just think it’s silly to draw a connection between someone’s art and the political stands they take. I mean for example, Guns N’ Roses covered a song by Charles Manson, I’m sure they don’t stand by his murders, it’s just a good song and they covered. And to be fair, and royalties that would go to Charles Manson they pulled from their own royalties so it came out of their own pocket essentially. But I think that’s a good example of how you can like the art someone creates but not agree with their morals

@@jeremydraper733 Usually I would agree with you. For instance, I still love watching Woody Allen movies and think the guy is brilliant, even though personally the guy is a creep. But with Ted Nugent, he is an activist actively promoting ideologies, agenda's, and candidates that I despise. I am in fact a guitarist and think he's a great player and I dig some of his songs, but I can't bring myself to expand his coffers.

The reason Ted Nugent has that "steel trap" memory is because of all the brain cells he kept by never doing drugs or alcohol. But the other thing you need to know about Ted Nugent is he is also a long time friend of Wayne Kramer from the MC5--who is about as far on the political spectrum as he is--but the common denominator is music, and there are two things in American life that bring people together: Sports and music

Saw Henry speak years ago, and it's still one of my favorite performances ever. While he was funny, he was also very thought-provoking, which I'm certain was his intent. He's not only studious about the world around him, but in being acutely aware of our perception of it--and also of human nature--he's smarter than most of us in ways that "book smarts" can't measure. One thing he said in particular has stuck with me: _Now I might have you over for dinner, and we might disagree on a few things, but at least have _*_something_*_ to say and something that you believe in--don't make it a boring conversation_ I see a few comments about what a great guy he is in person, and they don't surprise me at all. He's humble, with a respect for all humans until they give him a solid reason to lose it--and even then he's still unwilling to write someone off as a total loss, based on a single incident. He's got the compassion to not thrive in proving someone wrong--but he's still got the integrity to be straightforward even when it hurts. I doubt Henry Rollins would ever run for president, but I'd vote for him in a heartbeat.

Joe said that Nugent was pro-second amendment, or extremely pro-gun, a stance generally associated with the right. If you know anything about Nugent, you'd know he's one of Trump's biggest fans.

@@meatisomalley America's Left and Right are error clusters due to low human intelligence. (The Nolan Chart describes reality accurately, with only 100,100 being legitimate and opposed to the violation of individual rights.) The belief that property rights should be legally upheld is the only philosophically valid, pro-freedom position. This remains true when the property is of a sort that frightens the timid and unintelligent (i.e. casinos, guns, drugs, encryption). Those who disbelieve in gun rights are inherently totalitarian.
