Congrats on the bottle win. Sucks that some stores are jerks.

I live in LA but from WI, and whenever I come back to visit, I hit up that Woodman's in Menomonee Falls. They had Calumet 16 for 90 bux, and never seen it that low. Discount Liquor in Waukesha and Ayra's in Oak Creek are places I've scored some good stuff (and affordable). Given, CA has more than its share of allocations, so I like to explore the local stuff in WI between Driftless Glen, J Henry, Wollersheim, 45th Parallel, Central Standard. Yet to grab any Yahara Bay as I hear it's suuuper young. I did order a Dancing Goat recently (In Lieu of Flowers), which is quite good, but since they source, I'm more interested in people making their own distillate. I notice that Wisco bourbon has a more savory anise-adjacent note. Don't hate it, don't love it, but I appreciate that there's something of a signature to differentiate it from Kentucky. Although, stuff is much younger than Kentucky and the climate is considerably different, as well.

Thank you for taking the time to drop this thoughtful comment!! California definitely appears to the the “land of plenty” when it comes to allocation! Glad to hear your keep your options open to Wisconsin Bourbon. We agree, Wisconsin flavors are unique… we call it “farm style” grain forward, taste. The one local distillery we’ve found, which stands above is Driftless. Thanks again for watching, cheers!

@@WisconsinBourbonBros Driftless definitely has a more accessible palate for those used to the Kentucky profile. Their port finish is maybe the best port finish I've tried. They give you a bit more of the sweetness you expect in bourbon, and that lacks at times with other Wisco distilleries. J Henry definitely has a more grain-forward thing going on, but still feels fairly sophisticated. They obviously benefit from Nancy Fraley's blending a lot. Hoping to score their Anniversary Blend this year since it's older distillate, and see how it compares to the La Flamme and Patton Road I have.

I was at that same Otto's that day and felt very similarly about the place. Nice find on the Handy

So you got into a line and didn’t come away with anything? Showed off the Driftless 8 yr and then walked out with the 5yr? I’m confused. But great score on that handy!
@charliepless462528 күн бұрын
Both were 8 years if you look at the print on the label, some were proofed down but a case was at barrel strength
@WisconsinBourbonBros27 күн бұрын
We picked up the 8-year on the top, and the Barrel Proof was 1/5 which came from the same barrel as the table toppers. It was an 8yr as well.

The raffle wasn’t for MSRP? $267 for a bottle that If I remember correctly MSRPs for $100 maybe a little over, $267 seems like a lot
@WisconsinBourbonBros27 күн бұрын
It was not MSRP, no… BUT it was a Free-To-enter raffle. Most other raffles are a Buy-In style so we were perfectly ok with MSRP is around $140 this year

@dneuens26 күн бұрын
Wish it didn't have to be done, but if you want to try these things, it's one way to get your hands on bottles. Other options are just blind luck, expensive relationships to maintain, or going into secondary. Plenty of great shelfers, but also plenty of great allocated bottles (and some that are stupid overhyped).
