Saw them in a ~200 person theater, they fought a life size T-rex, I was drenched in its blood, greatest live show I've ever seen. Next morning we were at the same burrito shop, they were all ridiculously nice, middle aged, thespians with their families.

I liked your reaction. As a long time fan of Gwar, the best way I can explain it is it's satire. They're kinda making fun of scary metal bands. And you'll be happy to know, they're not satanic and even battle Satan in some of their stories.

Gwar started out in an art college in Richmond Virginia, where a student wanted to make a science fiction horror movie about beast from space coming to Earth to conquer, called "Scumdogs of the Universe". The art scene in Richmond all used to rent space at this Old Dairy Warehouse. The student who is making this film wanted the punk band who rented space across from his studio in the Dairy Warehouse, to provide a soundtrack to his movie. The singer, Dave Brockie, thought it would be a good idea to wear the costume that he was making for the movie, on stage at a show. He named the band Gwar, and it was a goof. They use all kinds of special effects like blood and guts. And people really responded to it. They were into it. 30 years later, the movie still hasn't really been made and they are still wearing the costumes on stage. PS, tomorrow is the anniversary of Dave Brockie's death. He was an original, one-of-a-kind guy. A true artist in every sense and a legend. Rest in peace Dave "Oderus Urungus" Brockie.

I love GWAR! I’ve seen them live at least 20 times. I am now friends with one of the guys who created GWAR. They have a new singer after Dave passed away. Their live shows are fucking amazing! You could try their song War Is All We Know. It’s got a great breakdown. GWAR also has a few movies, and a whole comic book series, and board game.

Go with their newest album "Blood of Gods" 1st release since the old lead singer's death (RIP Brockie) "Viking Death Machine" has a good video or "I'll be your Monster" Saddam-A-Go-Go came out in the 90's and is quite dated for what Gwar was achieved musically.
@TheLongBallofTheLaw5 жыл бұрын
I dunno dude. Maybe I'm an old timer, but I think This Toilet Earth was their prime. They might not have had the technical skills or production values back then, but their first 4 albums were very unique in their sound. The late 80's/early 90's was Gwar's golden age in my opinion.
@TheLongBallofTheLaw5 жыл бұрын
I like songs like Pocket Pool because they were truly unique and transcended the metal genre.
@adamp.14035 жыл бұрын
@@TheLongBallofTheLaw I agree with SOTU and America must be Destroyed being some of their finest works. This Toilet Earth was good, but not their best IMO. Carnival of Chaos and We Kill Everything were not their finest works. I was quite pleased when they changed up their sound after Violence has Arrived, and stuck to a harder Metal sound.

I'll never forget when I hung out with that guy the singer just me and him drinking a 24-pack of Natural ice in the alleyway talking about all sorts of stuff no other fans around they didn't even know he was there because he wears a costume so that most people don't know what he really looks like I met him by accident cuz I had my beer stashed in the alley and I went to get it and he was standing there by himself... He asked me for a beer I said yeah why not here, I started drinking a beer with them and it took a minute before I realized who I was chilling with.... All I can say is yeah he's wild but he is definitely a good guy or was anyways cuz like I said he died

Saw them in their heydays 3 times. First time I saw them I couldn't figure out why everybody stood at the back of the venue until the gig started. Stage blood, green gunge, fake sperm and packets of shit fired into the crowd! 😮 You just embrace the madness and go with it, just remember to take a change of clothes for after the gig! I have a picture somewhere of us getting food after the first gig, we were covered in red, green and brown from head to toe, the owner of the chippy looked at us in amazement.

This was released in the early 90s during the Iraq War. As silly as it seems, it was a very political statement. Gwar has always done that through the lense of dark satirical comedy. The have always been offensive, but they have always engaged in issues no one else would touch with a 100ft pole.
@FranktheFoof5 ай бұрын
Anyways I love that you didn't talked a bunch of crap about them.... They put a lot of work into that without making much money and they've done it for probably 30 plus years now... They make their own costumes they write their own music there is a whole story behind the characters that play as there is no other band or anything like them that has ever ever existed... They are very passionate people even though they're gross as hell hahaha

I'm actually about to tattoo the lead singer on me...... I do tattoos but I'm just so picky I haven't found the right graphic yet for the tattoo I'm going to get... it's going to be in memory of him..... He's one in a trillion billion million trillion billion.... Irreplaceable.., I think he just got tired and took his own life on purpose which is really sad to me...... Underappreciated and I could see why most people didn't give them the credit they deserve because their main thing was to shock people with the grossest craziest tasteless type of stuff but there was always a reason behind all of it and people are too lazy to look into it to see that for themselves
