Retired history teacher Jim Chevalier discusses the events that led to the 1832 Black Hawk War .
Chevalier’s talk covers the 1831 war council during which the Potawatomi and other tribes were summoned to rally in defense of their homelands against the onslaught of European settlers. The war lasted from April through August 1832, and a young Abraham Lincoln was part of a volunteer militia.
