What an amazing video; I learned a bunch! My black-headed python is 4 years old and about 2 meters long. I feed him a smallish medium f/t rat every 2 weeks. After watching your video, I might start varying this frequency to keep him on his "toes". He tend to eat these rats tail first, so I need to remove the back legs so he doesn't get stuck on them. I also might get him a UVB light now as well; didn't think he needed one, but your advice on this topic make a ton of sense. I'll do whatever he needs to make him happy and to live as long as my 24 year old Children's Python. You've earned yourself a new sub! I also see you make and sell all the wonderful decorations you use in your videos. Great job! I'd order from you in a hearbeat if you weren't on the other side of the planet. Keep up the great work!

Yoo, thank you! I’m getting one of these soon (one of my dream animals) and not many people talk about them. Is there any small things to look out for when getting a good snake? Thanks for the great video! 🙏

Thanks for the positive feedback. We're so glad this video was useful! It's always best to get them as babies after they have had a minimum 10 solid feeds. The reason why we recommend getting them young is so you can get them used to handling. Always get them from a reputable breeder. Always pay attention when you first see the snake (before you have purchased it) to see if it has kinks or any body abnormalities as well as making sure its movement is ok, and its not doing abnormal movements that could be signs of neurological issues. Also make sure it has good body condition meaning it shouldn't look underweight. Also ask the breeder what they are feeding them and if its a picky eaters, preferably get one that isn't a picky eater. Most of the breeders we know feed them rats, which is good, because that food item can be easily accessed. They can be picky eaters as majority of their wild diet is reptiles, however, to make the food more appetising, skink scents and frogs scents can get them interested in their food. That's all the signs we look for before purchasing. They are a beautiful snake. I would say it's not a beginner snake, it's more of an intermediate. Goodluck!

It's always tricky to say. Because I've met people through my work who have done there research regarding an animal and get the proper guidance and they have been fine with snakes like this. However if I was just doing a broad generalisation, not knowing anything about the person. I wouldn't recommend it for beginners or first time snake owners as they are a fairly large python, more flighty and if handled incorrectly can have a decent bite. This can lead to a new owner being afraid of it and somewhat neglecting it. Hope that answers your question 🙏

Is the black headed Python a beginner snake or an intermediate snake ?
@ReptileWay
@ReptileWay Жыл бұрын
In general terms It is more so an intermediate snake, as it is somewhat of a large python, can be slightly more flighty with handling, and adults need somewhat large enclosures with toasty basking spots. However, I have been witness to individuals who are confident with snake, especially larger ones and they've done all their research, get these guys as their first reptile. So it is possible for first time reptile owners to keep them successfully, if they are prepared and armed with all the knowledge. Hope that answers your question 😊🙏
