I wish they would bring back Def Poetry. There is so much to say in response to the actions of our times but no medium to voice our thoughts anymore.

I especially like the way he makes modern day rappers like Little Wayne, Rick Ross and *insert random rapper's name here* look like the simple-minded fools that they are. Black Ice is the kind of poet who makes you listen, then take a a break, rewind, then listen again. Most of us here would consider themselves lucky if we could touch one-hundreth of the amount of people Black Ice touches with his poetry. Much props to ya BI, and i'm sorry our species is so fucked up to force you into this!

More than1,800 people died in hurricane Katrina, making it the deadliest U.S. hurricane since 1928. Total property damage was $81 billion. I remember Katrina because she hit land on my 27th birthday (August 29, 2005). I wasn't there (i'm from Europe), but around here we were amazed how things got so out of hand in the mighty USA. The mayor of New Orleans was actually calling the radio for help. And in the first few days, the media was only interested in the looting that was going on.

To everyone that has heard this young man , he is the real thing..."N" WORD and all. As you watch these Def Jam Poets, I would like for you to look in the crowd (when the camera moves on the audience), what you will see are not just fellow poetry lovers, but college professors from NYU, and Columbia. You see in the classroom they denunce this type of poetry, but in the dark (when no one is around) they applaud...YOU CAN'T GRADE CREATIVITY!!!!!!

i know what happen in Katrina is a tragedy. but i just want to mention when that happened besides popular belief the military was mobilized and giving support. and i know this because when the hurricane hit and the flood broke out I was stationed at MCAS Miramar working the transient line. and i remember the first week i was workin 12-20 hour shifts loading planes with supplies for relief. by the end of september over a million lbs of cargo was sent out for relief.
