People need truth.. Sicilians that came over to America were considered "too black" to have access to the same freedoms of the colonials.. Idk why yall choose to prop up hate instead of just dealing with reality and uncovering truth together. We all bleed the same. Period.

Sicilians were considered not White Anglo Saxon Protestants with Polish and Irish, who are among the whitest people on earth. The myth of black descent of Sicilians is a fanciful belief with no scientific evidence. Classifying people from their skin tone seems to be the American national obsession.

No we do not.. Sub Saharan DNA is about 2%, the same amount found in Spain, Portugal, France . There is no Western European Nation that does not have Sub Saharan DNA. There is a British magazine by the unlikely name of PET, which deals on a variety of subjects. This magazine states with proof that 20% of the British population has some Black DNA. Look it up. I am of Southern Italian descent and according to my DNA which has been analyzed by two different laboratories, I am 100% white , Caucasian and I am very proud of that. I'm Eritrean (E. Africa) and the Italian invaded Eritrea from 1882-1941. And many Italian men married Eritrean women and still today lots of Italian men love Eritrean women and go back to marry. But, according to most Eritreans, they Italians were not violent people nor mafias like you see in the movies, but the men were very romantic, passion of cooking, likes to vacation, very stylish (fashion) & enjoy life. Today, Eritrea is considered by most western countries Little Rome or Little Italy, still has many Italian influence such as the food & Architect and Italian is still spoken by the older generation. Btw, we Eritreans don't like to be colonized by anyone but we still speak positively of the Italians because they were not violent, but helped developed Eritrea unlike the other western colonize in Africa, who were very brutal to Africans.
@redsea3345 жыл бұрын
Stop lying !!!! You are not Eritrean, No Eritrean ever married an outsider. And all those who have Italian blood have left for Italy. Today there is no Eritrean who have Italian blood. Almost all of us can trace our ancestors for at least 7th generation that is way before Italy came to Eritrea. Most of us are just Eritreans, If you are an odd one just speak for your self , not us. P.s Italians did not Invade Eritrea, They controlled coastal regions and later penetrated to ward Hamasien. There was no war between Eritrea and Italy cuz Italians are the one who created the nation of Eritrea. Italy only Invaded Ethiopia.

@Brian Mino and btw there are two historical habesha waves in Italy. The first based on the Punic wars against Cartaghe, where the Romans were allied with both Aksum and Nubia and they won. You have to think that at the time racism and slavery weren't about melanine but war prisoners. Cartaghenians ended up as slaves for 5 years and then got their liberty and Roman citizenship as required by law, while Axumites and Nubians skyrocketed their ranking in the Roman Army and ended up assimilating in the Italian society. The first Duke of Florence was half Italian and half Habesha or Sudanese en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alessandro_de%27_Medici,_Duke_of_Florence. The second after the allies won the WWII and many Eritrean soldiers left Eritrea with us destination Italy. The Eritrean National Fest in Italy is at its 46th edition and it's paid 50% by the Eritrean community in Italy and 50% by Italy with public money. Italian Americans were more despised in New Orleans than in any other place in the country, as they were lynched en masse. While it's been said that the incident was a result of killing a Police Chief, the seeds were already there due to Italian Americans mixing fairly well with African Americans in the city. You know the relations were even more intimate between Italian American males and African American females when among the dozens of Italian surnames which African Americans in New Orleans bear are Arena, Ammirato, Angeletti, Barabino, Bivalacqua, Bruno, Cagnolatti, Corelli, Cuneo, Danna, Dibartolo, Domio, Fascio, Ferrara, Fortuna, Gallo, Garibaldi, Gilardoni, Liuzza, Lorio, Manetta, Martello, Nocentelli, Romano, Sentino, and Taranto..etc

He liked me very much and seemed glad to talk to me. I thought is was because we were both on the short side but the same height. His wife was... distant and inquisitive; especially odd since she already kind of knew me. I guess what it was is that she told them that the one that would give them the cloth was the one she loved. He cured them using the sulphurous waters of the volcanic caves (now the Terme di Sciacca, known as Stufe di San Calogero), where he retired to live as a hermit. During a period of plague, he went to the village to procure bread for the poor, and the people, holed up in their houses for fear of contagion, threw the bread out of the windows. This is the episode that the people of Agrigento commemorate, throwing small loaves of bread with sesame and fennel seeds as the statue of the thaumaturge saint passes by. kzbin.info/www/bejne/apmod4WppNuZhq8si=neOsj7aeU-Yjmquf

I need to drill down into this, but there may be a blood connection to sub-Saharan Africa in terms of DNA prior and yes I mean prior to the so-called transatlantic slave trade. I have met Sicilians who tell me they are African and they are quite proud of this lineage. It occurred to me when the word Guinea is apparently used in derogatory terms in North America. But this is also used about indigenous Italians by American Italians as if to separate themselves. I'm sure there are DNA studies somewhere that show interesting journeying of humans travelling through from African regions. The similarity to sub-Saharan African food is gnocchi and there is an astonishing Italian rustic meal that is like pounded-yam and then eaten with the heads. Not only that it is eaten off the same platter and this is a unifying act in sub-Saharan western Africa. I'm sure I'll be shouted down from making these observations, but I have nothing to loose or gain by making these observations and connections.

@Galderik Ancient Rome was LITERALLY a melting pot. It has nothing to do with movies. Have you not seen the Column of Trajan with the locked-haired NUMIDIAN soldiers (modern day people of Chad are their descendants - the Toubou people). Not to mention the existence of Numidians and soldiers from Iran stationed at the southern border of Germany (the ancestors of the "Black Dutch"). Africans have been in Europe since the BC era. Even Great Britain had to add this fact to their school curriculum. www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3392088/GCSE-pupils-taught-nation-s-earliest-inhabitants-Africans-Britain-English.html museumcrush.org/the-mystery-of-beachy-head-lady-a-roman-african-from-eastbourne/ So, again, you racists need to get over your racial hangups. The entire planet was brown at one point. Lighter skinned people are recent mutations of darker skinned people (light skin and blue eyes are only 6,000 - 8,000 years old). So, racism is very dumb. Many of your Etruscan ancestors were also brown skinned as well. i.pinimg.com/736x/75/4c/af/754caf4d45ee23dbafd30e7fe37de38a.jpg 66.media.tumblr.com/97b19038ff7b903fbb75374ceab24fb9/tumblr_nj462dQR2B1ssmm02o1_1280.jpg www.realhistoryww.com/world_history/ancient/Images_Etruscan/Etruscan_relief2.jpg Mixed/brown people rock and we are the future!

That translator is full of SH... you know what. What Valeri said was BLACK boys and black girls (or you can say young BLACK men and women). I find the hypocrisy of her translation in a discussion on Black Italians was absolutely uncalled for. She was simply scared to say it. He stumbled in speaking at that point. Of course she could not avoid it with what followed... Furthermore, this discussion is very important, especially in today's context in Italy. Forgotten history often breeds exaggerated racism. That is to say racism that goes above and beyond. However it is somehow in the collective memory of Italians that there was some connection between Italy and the African diaspora. One common expression in the South of Italy is Calafrica (Calabria-Africa). This is also part of the engine behind the tensions between Northern and Southern Italy, as the Germanic peoples who mixed into the Northern population preceding, during, and after the sacking of Rome caused a shift in Italic mentality about color. Furthermore, part of the Roman period racism was to point out the savage, uncivilized, pale-skinned, golden haired in Germania who lived too much in nature. This may have been part of the reasoning for the Nazi views of the Italians. And certainly it was connected to the judgement the South Tyrolians as traitors as they opted out of "reuniting" Germany as Germany set forth to form its nation state.

This interview doesn't add much "REAL" knowledge about Black Italians other than mentioning certain Blacks with who had been enslaved, or racially discriminated against while RISING to become famous individuals. What i don't admire here is the fact that the video is very similar to many racist white Americans discussions about Black American History when they ALWAYS TALK ABOUT SLAVERY, racial discrimination and how far we have progressed. As a Master degree academician I don't need to have "Slave Historical Events" and racial discrimination continually being promoted as the "ONLY HISTORY" that can be afforded to us. Even when this small amount of Black recognition is recognized there are still white racists who will also deny that small amount of our GLORIOUS BLACK HISTORICAL CONTRIBUTIONS that has been made by the Black race for THOUSANDS of years, which has absolutely NOTHING TO DO WITH ENSLAVED BLACK PEOPLE.. This video primarily mentions events that occurred during the rise of European colonialization, and states nothing about ANCIENT BLACK ROMANS, and their contemporaries. It would have been nice to hear about the Black Roman Emperor name Septimius Severus who founded the Mixed Black race "SEVERN DYNASTY" in 193 A.D. and ruled the Roman empire until his death in 211 A.D., and was followed by his two Black sons name Caracalla and Gaeta, as well as many more Black family members such as Elagabalus, Alexander Severus, etc.. Also, what about the Black African Carthaginian General name Hannibal Barca who defeated the Romans in several "Punic Battles" before finally being defeated because the Carthaginian senators would not support him by sending him more soldiers and weaponry.. These are just a FEW of the things that this video does not address, but instead, only talks about a Black Italian Boxer and others....

As much as I would like to commend you for this video and I do and being a few months into my Italian language course, I find this attempt at authenticity to lack the true "hidden" history I expected. It took 20 minutes to tell the story of the half African/ half Italian young man who became a boxer. And while that's of some interest the truth is that for 800 years Africans/Melanated people were in control and leaders in italy. Where are the descendants of Hannibal and his soldiers? Who were they? Since most of Europe in general was populated by melanated people, swarthy/Black, people, who were the Italian generals & soldiers who fought Hannibal's army? What is their physical description? And, I'm sure the answer is they were dark, as in brown. Why were they not discussed? The Roman senators in large part were melanated people. They were not discussed or shown, why? This is an attempt to break the ice but as I'm sure the lecturer knows this is nowhere near telling the story of so-called "black" Italians considered "white" because until 1924 all people born in Europe were considered "white." I don't know why but I'll find out. We don't need to look to Sierra Leone or the Sudan to find black people who were brought in as enslaved people and then become italian. So-called whites have thin, flat hair. Blacks have thicker or bushy, curly hair. Asians have round hair. Melanated Italians with curly or wiry hair were there when Hannibal and his army descended from the mountains into Italy. I'd say, Italy, at that time, was already a Black and Brown citizenry.

After watching the "ENTIRE VIDEO" I can see that I made an error in criticizing this video for not being more "HISTORICAL" which was not its primary focus, but instead, this video was focused on the "Sociological" aspects of Italian life for Blacks in Italy from the Colonial Era to the present day in regards to racial discrimination, as well as Black Psychological identification as it relates to accepting ones own "Black Psychological Concept". There was the discussion about the different kinds of RACISM, which relates to blatant racist individuals, as well as to the so-call Anti-Racist who are racist mutants who actually subconsciously evolve from the overt racist, but do not consider themselves to be racists. A good EXAMPLE of what I would consider to be the "MUTANT RACIST" who do not believe that they are a racist are the people who believe that when immigrants arrive in a host country with their own cultural values, that they should leave those ways of living back where they came from and adapt to the cultural way of life in the new country. In other words, all NEW ARRIVALS to any country should be afforded the luxury to maintain their old cultural values while allowing countries to become cultural pluralities. But there are not many countries that are willing to make that sacrifice UNLESS the NEW CULTURE that the new immigrants are bringing has been proven to be of a higher superior value which can improve the nation as a whole.. I think that most people would have to adjust themselves to what we call American culture which is in many ways a plural society when it comes to food, religion, languages, but there is a term which I would call a "CULTURAL CENTER" within most nations where all citizens would tend to agree. Overall, I think that this video was very interesting and highly informative after watching its entirety..

This is like a comic book class. Sure, the Moores invaded Sicily and some of Southern Italy. The Moores were conquered by the Vikings under King Roger. The Moores' main area of Sicily that they dominated was Corleone--the town of the fictional Vito Andolini/Corleone. of the Godfather. In Spain, the Moores were destroyed by El Matamoros. In Spanish, that means "Moore killer. There have been a few Africans that have migrated to Italy throughout the years. But Italy has never had a strong Black population of "Afro Italians". Most Sicilians had no African DNA. I always am reminded of the quote of Dennis Hopper's character in the movie True Romance about the Moores changing the bloodline forever because Sicilians and southern Italians were much darker than northern Italians. As stated before, the Moores were located in West Sicily in Corleone. They did not conquer all of Sicily. The Island had many inhabitants from Greeks, Arabs, Romans, and the indigenous tribe--the sicels. Blacks are always looking to claim heritage. They need to look at Africa and explore their own history before they can invade the culture of others. But I understand, everyone wants to be Italian.

Yes you are so correct most sicilians have no african dna, because they do not come from africa. The darker races were all over the world, they were the 1st people. We lump all blacks as africans, but they aren't. Most black americans have no relatives that came from africa. Start travelling different places around the world and you will see the 1st people were not white. I cam bet you those dark italians were there already, probably millions of years

What about the aboriginal Italians....called the Etruscans ...from the imagery I've seen ...they look very "Negroid" aka Black , African, Berber, Moorish, Ethiopian Egyptian ...etc. etc. and....what about the heraldry and crests of the oldest Italian families .... Siciliy is less than 20 miles from Tunisia....
@jesteroffools103511 ай бұрын
Italia had multiple ancient Italic groups the Etruscans were just one of them and not aboriginal although they could have had a multiracial society like ours from trading with other people like the Greeks, Egyptians,Phoenicians. DNA samples of dead ones show that they were similar to other Ancient Italic groups. It's plausible the Etruscans art could have been copied from Greek and Egyptian art and not an actual correct depiction of them but of what art they were inspired by. Sicilians are very mixed and different mixes. So it's hard to say. Different occupations brought in different people but the original families were the Italic tribes called Sicels and some other ancient italic sicilian groups that mixed out.

@Galderik You are completely lying. Even Ariana Grande has 10% North African blood and there are other Italians who have done DNA tests here on KZbin who have around 10% -20% African (including the "dreaded" Sub Saharan African blood) as well. Mixed Sicilian speaking on his heritage: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGmlo5mjfNeesNE Sicilian breaking down their DNA: siciliangodmother.com/2015/08/17/what-do-sicilians-look-like-lets-dig-into-the-dna/ Three original tribes called Sicani, Elymians and Sicels. They were the first arrivals after Sicily rose up out of the sea, and ancient writers thought they originated from Spain, mainland Italy and Greece. Carthaginians (Carthage is now called Tunis). They were Phoenicians (from what is now Lebanon) mixed with a few North African Berbers. Greeks Romans Jews, who were the only ones to migrate to Sicily instead of invading. Nobody knows exactly when they came but they were here before the Moors invaded. Moors from North Africa (they were an ethnic mix of Middle Eastern Arabs and North African tribes) Vikings (otherwise known as Normans or Norsemen) Vandals (a Germanic tribe) Ostrogoths (from the Byzantine Empire) Swabians from what is now South Germany Angevins from what is now France Aragonese from what is now Spain More French and Spanish and also Austrians Bourbon French And finally, Mainland Italians. North Africans are heavily mixed themselves and originally resembled East Africans like Ethiopians, Eritreans and Somalis (Haplogroup E1B1B) before the invasion of various ethnic groups like the Vandals, Arabs, Greeks and Romans. Their indigenous African tongue is also an Afro Asiatic Language which originated in AFRICA, not Europe. It was a pretty even exchange of genes on both sides of the Mediterranean. Africans have been in Europe since the BC era. Trajan's army was comprised of Numidians (the modern day Chadian Toubou people) and soldiers from Iran who were stationed as far north as Germany 2000 years ago. Not every Italian is mixed with other ethnic groups obviously because Italians are not a homogenous group. Northern Italians are more likely to be Germanic than Southern Italians are. Southern Italians are more likely to be mixed due to proximity to seafaring ethnic groups who contributed to the culture. Sorry but the tea has been spilled and racists need to get over their hangups about some Italians being part African! Rome and Greece's entire civilization came from Africa so get over your racial hang ups!
