My favorite underrated part of this skit is that there are no real answers. As long as Darnell agrees, you win. @@mindyschocolate What cracks me up about that word "hick" is that most of y'all have no idea what livin in the rural south is even like. Go to the barber shop and see black and white folk sittin around shootin the breeze. Go to the river, pond or lake and you'll see white and black folk fishin and knockin back a few beers together shit talkin each other seein who's gonna catch the biggest. It's actually a shock for most of us when we venture out of our little neck of the woods and head up north or west for a vacation to places like NYC, Chicago, Cali & etc and all we see is black and white folk at each other's throats. It's not lost on us down here that whenever someone wants to portray a racist they immediately dawn a terrible southern accent but what's funny is all these hate crimes, police shootings and etc seem to be taking place in primarily non-southern areas..... more often than not they're in Democrat/Leftist controlled areas. @ACoKyo25 күн бұрын
@@beenaplumber8379who takes a comment like an underrated line this seriously?
@beenaplumber837925 күн бұрын
@@ACoKyo It's laziness in the appreciation of art. I'm serious. Hear me out: When someone on YT likes something, especially when they're late to the party, they say it's underrated, as if it was up to someone else to have made them aware of this nice thing. If it weren't underrated, they would have heard of it by now, right? That makes it someone else's job to make people aware of good art (especially from the past), as if it hadn't been celebrated massively already, perhaps even overrated, only some person hadn't heard of it before, so now it's underrated. People will say a band like Journey or an album like Pink Floyd's The Wall were underrated when really they just hadn't bothered giving them a listen. That's okay too. They're old. I'm all for flexibility in word use (language evolves), but this is just self-focused and lazy. People need to discover art in their own way and say wow! when they like it, not put the rest of the population down for not having appreciated it enough to bring it to their attention earlier. If something is underappreciated, that means most of society doesn't get it but I do.

My take away is that people are 90% the same but the rest of the 10% really start defining who we are, in a lot of ways. This is why all the contestants were equally picking off the answers throughout the game show and why, when it came to Final Black Jeopardy, Doug was clearly going to lose and the host and other contestants clearly took issue with it. Black people feel marginalized and the single white guy couldn't see it from this perspective. But, I definitely agree with you that this was hilarious and ballsy.
@Smok-wu3nq8 жыл бұрын
David Lor Let me ask you something. Since the installment (or election) of the countless black aldermen/women in the black neighborhoods, how much better have those neighborhoods fared economically, safety, and crime wise? Was there the improvement that was supposed to have been seen? I havent seen it. It just looks to me that the only blacks that had an improvement were those elected and their own inner circles. The rest stayed the same.
@JudeMalachi8 жыл бұрын
David Lor your comment just goes back to Berk's original point that people are actually separated by class and not by race.... If a black person feels marginalized it is largely because of some notion instilled into them from this idea of being part of a "black community" that is separate from the mainstream American culture at large. The political class both fosters and utilizes this exactly so that it can create the conditions where we believe ourselves, as a society, to be separated by race. So in a way we really are separated by race, at least apparently, but this separation is artificial and contrived having been created so that we don't become wise to the fact that it is only class that is separating us, naturally, in truth, in our so-called "classless society". This is why working class people of all races intuitively understand that the game is rigged and they are being conspired against. The real conspiracy is, of course, nothing like they imagine, but what they imagine has been fueled by the unconscious awareness of what is really happening to them.

@cdrovdal08 because of the many layers of brilliance here. Not just an in your face comedy skit but one that makes you think. And obviously ahead of it's time. This skit will still be relevant and funny as hell 5-10 years from now...So when we come back let's play the National Anthem and just see what the hell happens...

Honestly I think it's just too hard to nail down a top 10 from a show running for over 45 years. I can't even nail down a top 10 for Chappelle's Show which was a fraction of that time lengthwise. Chappelle's also might not have a dud of a sketch for the entirety of its short run though, an advantage of not being a live, weekly show that runs for 45 years.
