Javan leopards and Malayan Penninsula leopards are almost exclusively black.

Because the Leopard (Panthera pardus) is the only "true" panther, the term "black panther" applies only to melanistic leopards.

by that logic black jaguars can also be called black pathers, because they are Pantera Onca.

@willyhwang1059, nope, the leopard (Panthera pardus) is the only "true" panther, therefore, the term "black panther" refers exclusively to melanistic leopards, also, melanistic jaguars are just called jaguars and the scientific name of the jaguar is actually now Jaguarius onca.
