Amy you are an amazing artist and an even better instructor! I always learn so much from you ❤ If anyone is on the fence about taking any of Amy’s classes… Jump on in, they are great!

Wow, thank you for the enthusiastic endorsement. I know I err on the side of too much information but I was that kid in class always raising their hand. I guess I figure if I've wondered it, someone else has too.

@@AmyShulkeI feel like I always want more information! That’s why I love your classes and teaching style. No one else goes as in-depth and technical as you. I really appreciate you! 😊

Amazing! After finishing your video, I've decided to put to test your tips and advices and immediately I noticed in my works an improvement that I was struggling to achieve for a very long time, with subjects that finally are getting more tridimensional and realistic. Just subscribed!😊❤

Wow, well thank you. Clearly you took my idea and ran with it, so pat yourself on the back more than me. So glad to have played a small part in this skill-leap for you! Congrats!!!

Thanks! Now you know why all my classes are gray lined... even back to the days when I was running classes with rubber stamps.

My pleasure. If you try line reduction, let me know how it goes!

This is what I struggle with when it comes to traditional art. Especially with copics! It’s hard to find something to line your work with that isn’t black and doesn’t smear!! Almost everything I try bleeds…then I just end up sticking with black deleter ink. But I don’t like how harsh the lines look. Any suggestions?
@AmyShulke8 ай бұрын
Sadly, Copic discontinued an amazing set of rainbow SP Multiliners. They do still have their base color Multiliners: amzn.to/4c8Vvg0 I currently use Staedtler Triplus Pens amzn.to/3v9jbQs They're safe-ish meaning you can go over the lines once or twice, you just can't scrub. I never ink before I color, so it's not a problem for me.

It doesn't limit you but agree to disagree...

Absolutely. We can disagree and still love the markers. Thanks for being kind about it.

@@AmyShulke Yeah, that's fine. I 'm just saying it doesn't limit you, you just have to know how to use it. I dig traditional artists and you're awesome. I use Ohuhu markers, but the theory and usages are still the same. But at the same time, my issue is with a lot of traditional artists who do tutorials, (Not saying you do this... but I've seen others who have...) just because it's not something you would do, or it's not done your way, doesn't mean it's wrong. I've seen a lot of traditional artists that use black line with their creations that look phenomenal and more realistic than those who don't but as drawing and detail work. Not necessarily making it look like coloring book style with bold outlines. And likewise, there are some such as yourself, that are equally dope without it. But like you said, there's a difference between coloring and drawing. The process I use, is color first, draw later in which you described as don't use lines until after you finished coloring... Sorry for ranting. But I really enjoy your videos.

I think we're actually closer than you think. I'm primarily addressing the learning phases while you're talking about established art practices from people who are exploring a line-driven style. I'm speaking to beginners while you're thinking 1-2 years ahead of me. In the beginner stages: if you learn with lines, they limit your ability to color sculpt forms correctly because there's always a black edge saving your butt and masking mistakes. It throws off the development of dimensional thinking (you see shapes rather than forms) and the presence of black hampers your ability to detect values correctly (you compare everything to black rather than to the neighboring value). BTW, I went through a phase where I lined the heck out of everything with sepia. Just make sure it's a style choice, not a Get Out of Jail Free card :) You're not ranting at all. A great discussion!

I understand and totally agree with what you’re saying in this video, but i feel the way you’re stating it is unnecessarily confrontational and aggressive, with the implication that those who are having trouble learning aren’t good at art.
