Favorite changes for sure is not waiting for server ticks when swapping to ice for full mana and also the changes to the thunder spells.

Does the blizzard spells always restore 10 000 PM or does it depend on the amount of Umbral ice you have ?

It depends on umbral ice stacks. You get 2500 or so at 1 stack.

frontloading 4 spells in the rotation looks to be a lot easier with paradox being instant cast but backloading looks like it is going to be harder with slower gcd speeds given the cost of fire IV, only through unconventional tactics is it possible to cast two flare stars in a fire first opener which would be weaker than going through the normal opener and just casting flare star at 6 stacks, however unless the gauge resets, this is going to misalign flare star with the normal rotation by becoming available halfway through the rotation rather than at the end the thunder changes are very nice and will provide lots of weaving opportunities, same goes for the guaranteed firestarter from paradox the button compression is nice for newer players but will mess with muscle memory for older players how are black mages going to regenerate mp below 76 when no enemies are around? regardless, guaranteed mana is nice but will inhibit the ability to emergency switch into fire to get extra damage out

As a BLM Main Specialist since 1.0 to now, from doing normal content to Savages and Ultimates. I picked this class due to the complexity and the uniqueness of how this job plays around it’s what truly makes this job so worth it to play. (It keeps me busy always) Still main class in this day. But I truly have to say this is gonna have lots of issues. It has its Ups but it truly has lots of downs. BLM already has issues in lower levels due to casting time but you can manage to play around with it. These are the things I can see can cause issues or just really doesn’t make sense why been removed when they actually where fine in the 1st place. 1. Removing Paradox from Ice Truly kills the whole purpose of paradox being the combination of fire ice. Paradox in ice really helped to maintain damage potency on the ice stage. Also help a lot when moving around and having it as an instant also. 2. Removing Sharpcast especially for thunder progs also can cause issues in the lower level dungeons Allowing us to have more mobility. 3. Depending on Ice Moves to regenerate is really gonna make things way more complicated for newer black mages, because I don’t see how people were having issues with the ticking to regenerate mana when all you need to do is to use one 1 Blizzard 3, 1 Thunder 3 and 1 Blizzard 4 to fully regenerate Mana. Now you have to be aware that if you finish your opponent or any mobs in fire stage and you have no mana, And you have to be fully dependable on ice moves to regenerate. This is going to be a big issue, especially in any lower lv dungeon raids or alliance where you do not have Umbral Soul available to regenerate mana. So if you accidentally finish the mob in a fire stage and no mana Which this gets to happen a lot especially on new players playing BLM, this will cost a lot of issues. 4 . To clarify to those who do not play BLM or for those who play normally and casual, because high Content players will understand this very clear. But one of the true difficulty of BLM At any level of content, you really need to know your fight by almost my memory to fully have a great potential and successful DPS because this is what truly helps black mage To get to their positions. Even though after level 80 level 90 if you calculate things correctly BLM has a great mobility With all the Instance progs you can get. (Trust me at Lv 90 in good moments I have thrown 16 Instants in a row if things goes my way when pulling with tanks) and using a Swiftcast with Ether and 1 Triple cast and connecting your Polyglots timer and having your instants on hand with sharpcast you can do this. You can cast 4 Flares, 4 Fouls, 3-6 Thunder 4 Instants, 1 Fire 3 instant and Ice phase Paradox, Still having another set of Triple cast you have 3 more instants attacks. Now have to rethink how to do all this after all this changes. 5 . I feel a little disappointed of how such a level 100 move Flare Star only have 350 potency on first enemy and 60% less on the rest. Xenoglossy still being Higher 880 potency and being an easy instant same as Foul being AoE is 600 of potency, but Flare Star requires a build of 6 Fire 4 for such low damage. But over here in PICTOMANCER have lots of moves of Potency of 780 AoE or with the canvases move there’s one called Winged Muse has a potency of 1,000 on 1st enemy and 50% less on the rest. Another move called Mog of the Ages that does 1,100 potency and another move called Retribution of the Madeen that does 1,300 whopping potency. Not trying to hate Picto cause it’s a class I’m interested to try out but come on!!! I could had expected more Damage Potency on Flare Star for being a LV100 move. Unless if I’m needed to be correct it’s 350 per the stacks of 6 in total than different story then 6 . Removing Enhanced Flare Out of Fire 2 it truly did not make no sense to me. Because of this reason, it really makes me want to use 3 Fire 2 To take the full benefit of the Umbral Hearts and then throw a Flare that is enhanced with a potency of 280. Now there’s no point in that. Also very awful that they drive the potency of Blizzard 2 and Fire 2. But I hope it gives you a pinpoint what’s going on. Because I know Moving from level 90 to 100 we can find ways to adjust things. It is just making it so much difficult on the lower levels. They’re making it even more restricted. ***For those who keep saying that the new way to regenerate Mana is better now, I Will repeat myself because some newer people still don’t understand this in the Blizzard Stage. Anything from Level 76 and under BLM is gonna suffer a lot cause Lv76 is where you learn Umbral Soul, so anything under that you do have to understand if you finish a Mob Trash Pull and you finish in Umbral Fire stage and drop it (which true honestly this happens to a lot of BLM) you have no way to regenerate Mana. You know how annoying is gonna be now you have to plan super well and predict well when a mob is about to die to finish your last attack in Ice Phase to keep some mana. Lucid Dreaming is there yes, but I can guarantee you that lots of people that are new and stay in basic BLM don’t even know how to use it in BLM or have never used it before. And I will guarantee you this will be such a hassle for a lot of people cause you gonna see them running around doing nothing wasting DPS until Mana regenerates. Time Tick on Umbral Ice it’s much simpler to regenerate mana, more simpler that you think specially it was helpful in Downtime, Ultimates and others. Like I said in # 3 1 Blizzard 3, 1 Thunder 3 and 1 Blizzard 4 to fully regenerate Mana with the Ticking. Super Simple, nothing complex. Why Complex? Well because in true reality the people that I have give lessons for BLM all this years say the same excuses, never use any of the Thunders, says Thunder is Useless, or they don’t have any of the Thunders Xenoglossy or Foul in there hot bar cause they don’t know when to use it or add it to there rotation and keep it out. Idk why this is an issue but it happens a lot. But Thunder and Xeno are easy to add to your Ice Phase just letting you know. This new change Is killing the uniqueness of what BLM has and all the possibilities of rotations that they can do. Hopefully they fix this!

Not gonna start an argument but with Paradox, Xenoglossy and thunder EW BLM was mostly free of MP idling. The ice phase was long enough. I think it would have been better to use the ice phase to "charge" the new attack or make that phase more interesting in itself instead.

Not relying on server ticks for MP? - Pretty sure this was likely implemented because it will cause issues as Spell speed increases. - Even now its not to uncommon for a Spell Speed BLM to only restore 6200 MP rather then 10,000 MP in their AOE rotation because their attacks did not line up with the server ticks exactly. (Not that it mattered but still... ) Not being able to cast Thunder willy nilly? You can only cast it when you would actually cast it? (Between phases) Needing to do 6 Fire IVs? - That you already do anyway... because that is math...

@@-DeScruff you do realise that when stats get added to the game, the amount of stats you need to reach breakpoints also increases, right? you join fresh with EW or something? there's a reason we're not all casting at a million spells a minute despite going into our 5th expansion, and it's not just the stat squish either and no, mana ticks were removed to get rid of the nonstandard playstyle, which often relied on replacing blizzard spells with filler like ice paradox (removed), xenoglossies, etc whilst your MP regenerated instead of wasting time on blizzard spells. yoshi p doesn't like it when classes have a skill disparity or when the skill variance betseen two players results in different performance between them, it seems, and nonstandard has been a boogieman for beginner BLMs for ages (no clue why, it's entirely unnecessary if you want to do well outside of the top 3% or whatever), though this was a terrible way to go about it since the changes now make the game clunkier for the average joe, too except the "math" demonstrably says that you *don't* need to do 6 fire IVs and that short rotations that cut out blizzard spells and fire 1/paradox do more potency per second than full rotations involving blizzard 4 at the cost of being less mobile due to tightness of the timers, meaning players confident in their fight knowledge can truly demonstrate this by pumping out more damage with it. at present, at least. in fact, the "math" says you can hardcast slow fire IIIs (ie no UI3), frequently utilise transpose instead of blizzard III or fire III, and actually go into fire rotations WITH only 6200MP and still be doing solid potency-per-second assuming you've met prerequisite conditions. so nah, don't tell me it's "math" when the actual math says otherwise and you have no idea what you're talking about, lol, that's just insulting also no, you'd cast thunder when it needs refreshing, you're not going to let it drop off if you can help it, you're not waiting for your ice phase or whatever. the default rotation offers flexibility for 2 extra spells per line, thunder can be one of them - of course, if you're doing nonstandard rotations then you can preemptively adjust your timers yourself to make sure its refresh time falls within the bounds of ice and not fire, so as not to risk losing fire casts over it what we're left with here is a complete removal of the class's flexibility, we're now railroaded onto the same single static rotation just like any melee is, there's no room for expression within our rotation and a gameplay style that many BLMs love, and arguably the reason why BLM is the most enjoyable it's ever been, is now gone. people that do ultimates on BLM will suffer because of these changes and how they interact with strats like double-dotting, letting MP regen in downtime, ie by largely removing the ability to do so. lower-skill BLMs will suffer because the rotation has just gotten that much stricter, meaning they'll be penalised harder for dropping fire IVs. more advanced BLMs who might dabble in a little nonstandard will see their mobility plummet, since nonstandard offered some lines that could be used to improve mobility and maintain uptime. people leveling BLM or running it in pre-76 dungeons will no longer have MP regen between trash pulls, meaning they'll have to often cast blizzard spells when they reach the next pack instead of, y'know, actually damaging spells, which just feels awful the changes are worse for everyone but much, much worse for people who actually explored the intricacies of the class, please don't claim the opposite if you don't know what it is you're talking about

​@@Doublejho Spell speed thing: Okay fair. Mana Ticks thing: Gonna disagree. BLM is the boogieman of new players not because of how MP Regen works, but because the class at early levels is clunky and slow. ARR dungeon enemies can die quickly before you can even finish your second cast. Swapping between Fire and Ice is a PIA compared to later levels. You can fairly easily brick yourself for a few seconds. Your second point honestly just sounds like: "How dare they change the rotation that I mastered. I don't want it to change."- You are literally talking about a non standard rotation. Any potency changes, any buff timer changes, will cause a non standard rotation to be reevaluated. Give it 2 months someones gonna gonna find some rotation thats shorter, that does more damage in general, or lets you cram a lot more damage into the buff window, or is a better rotation to use on X boss due to how their downtime works. Your thunder point: Are you paying attention? Its a basically a Thundercloud proc, that happens when you swap Fire or Ice. Do you refresh Thunder multiple times a phase? I mean your also the one whos saying to use shorter phases, which should mean you should pretty much always have Thunderhead proc up. "letting MP regen in downtime, ie by largely removing the ability to do so." ... Did you read Umbral Soul?
